Malachi Toney OUT! Does This CHANGE Everything for Miami's CFP Hopes?!
Nov 7, 2026
Big news, Malachi Toney is out indefinitely,
more than likely for the rest of the regular season,
which is four weeks.
He's having surgery.
Had a sustained ankle injury yesterday.
Well, I...
Look, I hate this, genuinely.
This was a kid that I was high on winning the Heisman.
It was a fun race to watch.
Now it looks like it's going to move back
into Darian Mintz's court, honestly.
I think because Jeremiah Smith, like...
From what started, we talked about this at the beginning of the year,
what was such a fantastic Heisman race
with Jeremiah Smith, Malachi Toney,
Jaden Ball was high on that list at the time.
Darian Minter was fun and explosive.
Trinidad Chambliss was kicking ass and taking names.
And all these guys that kind of agree from Oregon State, yeah.
I mean, he's technically still in it.
I don't know if, I don't think that he'll agree,
we'll get enough attention.
you know
But Malachi Toney would have been the last,
and he wasn't even the leader up until this moment,
but should have been.
So I hate that for him as an individual.
I know people hate Miami, and I do too,
but I would never wish anything upon these cats.
That's not where my head's at at all.
However, the impact this has for Miami will be very interesting,
and they'll be out later on in the buy or sell segment,
so kind of hold your tongue a little bit.
But the implications...
To their playoff run and to if they even make the playoffs.
I know this sounds crazy,
but we've seen the impact that Malachi is for this offense.
It's it's huge.
And there's been a lot of people that have come
are made the argument that like, hey,
with Malachi goes down very similar
to what BB three going down from Florida.
It's a massive piece.
It's a very talented football team, Miami, but.
There's also been times when you've seen Tony go out.
We had that injury a couple weeks ago,
and the offense gets a big stack.
I mean, Malachi Tony is so twitchy
and such a, just a offensive powerhouse.
This game was already going to be tough.
It's not going to be any easier.
And then they've got some games down the stretch here.
They've got Duke,
which we know that's going to be a personal game for Duke,
and they've looked to run the ball very effectively.
And then they've got, of course, Virginia Tech.
And that team's obviously on a little bit of a burner,
playing for an opportunity to play in the AC Championship.
A two-loss Miami team, I would believe,
would not make the playoffs.
And I know this seems like a crazy reaction from Malachi Toney,
but if you watch any of their games,
this is the heartbeat of their offense.
I'm very concerned for Miami
and if they are going to...
Make the playoffs now.
And I know that people are going to say I'm a Florida homer,
but I've watched every single Miami game this year.
I have a pretty good, I'd say I've had a pretty good pulse
on their program and what they're doing.
Dude, I'm telling you, he's been out for four series this year.
Two different games.
Two series and two series.
Three and out punt, three and out punt, three and out punt,
three and out punt when he is not on the field.
It is not good.
Look, this team is going to still be able to score.
They have a lot of talent on this offense.
It's not like they're all of a sudden just going to shut down.
But they've had some close games.
North Carolina, FSU, they've been on a little bit of...
Wake Forest.
Some dogfights.
And a piece like Malachi Toney has been the difference maker.
Without a shadow of a doubt.
And all of them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The fact that they have four guys
that had double-digit receptions on the year.
Malachi Toney has 73.
The next closest has 28.
Touchdowns. How many touchdowns? What's a touchdown between them?
He has 13. No one else has more than four.
Dude.
This dude has 650 more yards than the next closest guy.
No one else has over 400 yards in the year.
However, when KTP does say something like that,
he is right to an extent.
But...
There's a difference between losing a guy in the middle of a game
versus being able to have a game plan not having him.
Agreed.
This week, honestly, it's not going to matter
because they're going to probably lose because they lost them so late.
Not enough time to change the game plan completely
to a Cooper Barkhate-led offense.
That is what it's going to have to be.
Barkhate and Darrelle Upshaw.
And your role with the running backs,
JV and Mallory has been a pleasant surprise.
True freshman out of West Boca.
Kid's averaging like seven yards a pop now.
He's better than Fletcher recently.
So you need more out of him and Fletcher.
You're going to need to use the tight ends more probably.
And it may not be enough to beat Notre Dame,
but it will be enough.
To beat everyone else, I believe,
and saying they won't make the playoff feels like an overreaction.
I know it is one player, and I know it is a wide receiver,
and I get it because he is that caliber of player.
He is the most impactful non-quarterback in college football,
and losing that hurts.
Well, here's the thing. Congratulations, boys and girls,
because this show is brought to you by PrizePicks,
and I congratulate you because you finally made it
to college football season, boys and girls.
Yes, that is right.
You can now get in on the action on PrizePicks with college football.
It is time to get up after it.
This week, we're rocking and rolling, feeling pretty good.
But our guy, Micah Alejandro from Hawaii.
Then we've got, of course, King Miller
with USC getting some rush touchdowns.
I know we don't like FSU around these parks,
but I think Ashton Daniels is going to use
a little legs in this upcoming week
for some nice football to get him more in his rushing yards.

It is good to be around.
My point, too, again, I think what...
Me, this isn't...
When I say these things, this isn't me being...
Like, I got, we got.
Roasted yesterday because I said before this injury,
they were one of the best teams in college football.
That was the verbiage I used.
Well, I've asked the question, what happens if he goes out?
Like their offense and their punt return game
is so focused on what Malachi
Tony does.
And you say, oh, well, we just have to plan around Cooper Barkey.
Yeah, but the problem is he has that Jaden Ball gravitational pull.
Where he is the reason those other guys are getting open.
Not really, though, because Barkey has him.
You can't even guard Tony.
No, nobody can guard Tony.
They have two good running backs.
They're going to really have to lean on them.
I don't think, man, I think this is going to be
a very, very bumpy offense for the next couple weeks
until they can figure it out.
I think it's going to be like DB3S.
Minta is damn good.
Let's be honest.
It's good.
80% completion.
Derry Minta is damn good at this game.
I mean, 80% of it's going to Malakai Tony.
When you're throwing it five yards to Malakai Tony on a screen,
he takes it 45 and a touchdown.
I mean, it's not...
You're discrediting it.
You're discrediting how impressive it is.
They're not throwing deep a lot.
They throw a lot of side-to-side and tunnel screens.
25 touchdowns to one pick is ridiculous.
That's ridiculous.
Because of Malakai Tony, though.
Well, again, not purely, not purely.
I look, Derry Minta is a good quarterback.
He's a solid college football quarterback.
He's good.
Yeah.
Like there's nothing to take away from that.
They're going to still be competitive.
I mean, they're not going to just fall flat.
That's not my point.
Here's my theory of like, or my thought on the playoff thing,
or where all of a sudden this thing changes.
This game at South Bend becomes a whole lot harder.
All right.
And I think they've kind
of already told you how they view certain teams,
certain strengths and schedules.
If they put Notre Dame at 11 after losing one,
where do you think they're going to put Miami after losing one?
Not that low.
Not that low.
How can you say Miami's got a ton of being out?
With Malachi Toney being out, they could drop them quite a bit, dude.
Is this offense terrible?
That's their way of defending it.
It's the fact that, I mean, you guys know this in the chat.
I'm not going to tell you anything you don't know.
We talked about this.
They will judge you.
They've said this in the Jordan-Travis rule.
They will judge, and this is kind of your point to Ohio State
by losing their quarterback, which I overlooked yesterday.
If they lose a key component, they take that into consideration.
It's different, though, because they didn't
have Jordan Travis for the playoffs.
Malachi Toney has been reported he will be ready to go by the playoffs.
It's different. It's so much different.
It's a high ankle sprain with a surgery.
I understand you, but you have to—
Every surgery is not created equal, Cody. You know that.
My point is, though, if you're going to judge
a team based on where they stand currently,
currently he is not on the football team.
Look, it doesn't really matter where he gets placed.
It's just a crazy debate.
I still think that it's not a debate if that is a factual thing,
that they rank a team based off
of who you have currently on your roster.
That is their rule.
That's not me.
If they're a one-loss team,
they're not going from one to 13.
It's just not going to happen.
No, I don't think they'll go one from 13.
Just because they lost one guy.
One to eight or one to nine?
I think they will.
It's not because of the one-loss guy.
I think it's because of strength of schedule as well.
I don't think they trust their strength of schedule
at the same time.
And so, here's the thing.
They go to eight, seven or eight, I would believe,
I think, and at that point...
Two losses, they're out.
That was my point.
Then all of a sudden, they become very vulnerable.
Maybe not.
Maybe not.
I'll tell you why.
Last year, Miami was a two-loss team that made it in.
And last year, it was a more competitive field with two-loss teams.
This year, it's going to be more competitive with three-loss teams.
So I don't think that's fair to necessarily say.
Another thing is, they don't expect Notre Dame
to lose to them this weekend.
Notre Dame was a five-and-a-half point favorite.
Ever since Malachi Toney was ruled out,
that line has moved to eight-and-a-half.
In less than 20, in less than 12 hours, actually.
So to think that they're going to be penalized,
what's actually going to happen is it's the other way.
Well, they'll be, oh, we didn't expect them to win that game
because they didn't have their guy.
And that, like what they did with the Oklahoma rule,
every game they lost them, a tier didn't play last year.
Oh, it doesn't count.
They didn't have their quarterback.
The loss didn't count?
Like, like, like when you lose.
They did it with Mississippi State with Bama.
That was their justification.
Ah, it counts because Mississippi State had their quarterback,
so it's a good win.
Or if you lose, if you don't have a quarterback,
it doesn't really play as you.
I can justify that.
I mean, obviously that team became a shell of itself after losing,
but Bama didn't play the Mississippi State that we've seen
over the last four weeks.
I'm a little torn before, but I talked more about it yesterday,
and I can see, like,
That game was a little bit different than what
that team looks like now.
Here's my thing.
I agree.
Your point to last year makes a ton of sense.
I want to make this very clear.
The way that I am approaching
this is not coming from a personal feeling.
I don't necessarily believe a two-loss Miami team should be out.
I don't believe that to be the case.
I'm going off of what the playoff committee is telling me
based how they've navigated it thus far.
I really think they're taking strength of the schedule
way more into consideration than they ever have.
It has me a ton of confusion.
Notre Dame's schedule is no harder or less harder than Miami.
And one lost team.
Never mind you.
Notre Dame.
So, here's the thing.
We didn't see where college football
had Notre Dame before losing to BYU.
Right?
Agreed?
Well, you also know, yes, they have a contract with the CFP
that if they're on the border, they have to get in.
And they clearly want to avoid it completely.
So they're like, hey, you win, you're good, you're out.
Well, of course that's a problem.
That's their way of avoiding their problem.
So that's an emotional decision.
But if we're trying to have any logical approach to this,
you told me that Notre Dame was a number...
They were the number one team and the number two team
when they lost to BYU, according to the AP poll.
They lose to BYU at BYU
who at the time was also undefeated and drop you to
number 11.
Now BYU lost to UCF so they can make
that argument that that loss doesn't
look as good now,
but the same,
then you can make the same argument.
If Notre Dame were to beat Miami,
this is my point.
Like they're,
they're not moving consistently and that's what's annoying to me.
So we don't,
they could drop Miami to 11 if they lose
or they could drop them to three.
Like that's how crazy the drop could be.
And either one of them,
You could almost justify it.
Either one of them, I would be confused
because if they only drop them three spots,
it doesn't make any sense.
And I would agree with you
if you drop them to 11,
it wouldn't make any sense.
I don't know what the perfect spot is.
So that's my thought.
This isn't me being a hater.
I know people love to come in here.
They're saying that I'm a homer.
I don't use my ears,
but I'm more than welcome to have you call in
and do an actual conversation about it.
I'm just going off of what they are telling me,
and that's them calling football playoff games.
I don't think they'll make it with two losses.
I don't think their strength of schedule is good enough.
They'll win the conference.
And they're they're they.
Yeah, that would be their only way.
If they win the conference, yes.
If they win the conference, yes.
If they don't win the conference,
they're probably not going to get in, though.
