If you've been watching us the last several hours here on Fox 6 Now,
you would know that we have been having entirely too much fun
chatting about Christmas music, holiday music,
because our friends at B97.3 sent us some Christmas cookies
and started off the conversation about Christmas music
and when you should start playing it,
because they started playing it today.
Being joined live now with DJ Joe,
joining us here on Fox 6 Now.
You're adorned in Christmas decor.
And you guys started playing Christmas music today.
How are you guys feeling?
Are you in the spirit?
Oh, we are in the spirit
because everybody is just in such a great mood.
It's like the Brewers being in the World Series.
It's like the Brewers getting in the World Series
and winning the World Series all over again.
That's the kind of high that we're on today
and hearing all this positive reaction from people and just.
You know, people we haven't heard from in a while, just checking in.
Of course, everybody's sharing memories and their favorite songs.
Everybody wanted to try to guess what the first song was going to be,
and it was Andy Williams' It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,
which I think was pretty appropriate
because this has been a really wonderful time of year.
I just...
We were talking about the Brewers and,
of course, heading into the holiday season here,
and it's been unseasonably warm.
It's starting to get a little bit colder,
so that played a factor in us going to all
Christmas music, but it has been a really,
really fun day just watching social media,
talking to you guys, and playing all of our Christmas songs.
Yeah, it's interesting that you point out, you know, I feel like
normally I feel like you almost want to start the holiday season
as early as possible because it can be a bit of joy amidst darkness.
But this time it's like we're just going from a huge amount of joy
into another rush of joy from the brewers to the holiday season.
And you said you asked your listeners if they prefer blue
and yellow or red and green.
And what was the answer?
Oh boy, it was really split.
I would say the Brewers probably beat Christmas a little bit
and we knew that the town was going to be crazy
if the Brewers got to and won the World Series and
we were right. So I think, you know, the Brewers get all the credit.
They can beat Christmas this
year and, you know, maybe next year if they run it back.
But yeah, you know, everybody was really,
again, trying to guess what that first song
was because not only do they want to be right on the
first song but they always
They also wanted to win the $1,000 gift card.
starting
So that played a factor as well.
So a lot of people were saying, oh, my gosh, I picked that song.
That was my song.
That was my pick.
And, you know, that created the added excitement.
And you got the cookies there, too, the B97.3 cookies.
to
And so we've just been eating cookies all day.
speak
I don't think I've eaten anything else.
Your diet is thriving right now.
You're like Buddy the Elf.
now.
That was like his what?
His four major food groups?
I'm sure cookies was one of them.
That's right. Yeah. Cookies. Yeah.
I'm putting syrup on my spaghetti and what else did he do?
Like M&Ms and candy. Yeah. It's that time of year.
Okay. We've been asking our viewers for
their favorite Christmas song
and they have been giving us some amazing answers,
but what is your favorite Christmas song, Joe?
I really like Oh Holy Night
when Mariah Carey belts it out for a couple of different reasons.
She's got an amazing voice, and I just think that song just says a lot.
But also, when you're in your car
and you're singing along to an iconic voice like Mariah Carey,
you sound like Mariah Carey to yourself, if you're by yourself.
And so that's your chance to have an amazing voice,
even if you don't, like I don't.
And you can sing along to those songs as loud as you want.
It's so true.
In my car, only by myself.
Like if anyone else is in the vehicle, I'm not singing.
But also as long as I can crank up the music loud enough
that you can actually hear my vocals, then that's when we're thriving.
That's what I do.
Yeah, you just keep turning it up, and you sound amazing.
You're like, boy, I think maybe I should try this out.
I should try singing on stage.
You don't know what we do in the studio.
Everybody asks what we do during the songs.
That's what we do.
We sing and we dance.
We all get coffee.
There's not a lot of action.
If we had a webcam in there, if we weren't going all Christmas,
it might be a little weird to watch us.
But we had a lot of fun on social media,
so check out our social media too
because you can see the moment where we hit that red button
right after we were talking to you guys.
That's so, I mean, exciting.
But we're on Fox 6 Now now, so this is where we can be honest
and we can, you know, peel back the curtain.
DJ Joe, do you ever get tired of Christmas music
when you're listening to it 24-7, or is it just,
nope, I love it throughout the entire season?
Just when I think I'm about to get sick of it,
somebody calls and has a great request,
or somebody leaves us a great comment.
I was listening to you talk about Christmas memories,
like when Mayfair Mall had the ice skating rink,
and I talked to that with my son about it on the
way to school. And so you're like, okay,
this is really affecting people's day. So right when you
When you think, okay,
I played Wham last Christmas for the 17th time now.
How much do I really love this song?
You get somebody calling up saying,
hey, can you play Wham last Christmas and this is why.
So you kind of...
Just get refreshed by the listeners all the time.
So there are a couple of songs
that I don't particularly care for because you can't like
them all, but there's only like one or two,
and I'm not going to mention them, but maybe
I'll shoot you a private message later.
But yeah, I mean, for the most part, it is such a happy, festive time.
It's kind of like saying, you know.
You heard Glory Days so much because the Brewers once,
I know I keep referencing the Brewers,
but that was such a fun time. I'm such
a big Brewers fan. You know, you don't want to get
sick of Glory Days because that means the Brewers won.
So we're never going to get sick of that
song. It's kind of like the same thing with Christmas music.
Everybody's so excited when
they hear the Christmas music and there's
so many great memories. We're not going to get sick of it.
No, absolutely. And I also love just how many varieties there
are of certain songs. As you
talk about Last Christmas and Wham!,
I can think of how many artists have now covered that since.
And it's like, well, which one's your favorite version?
And then you can get into debates on
why the other person's wrong.
Chris, it brings us together and it tears us apart, Christmas music,
really.
Yeah, there's so many different emotions,
and you talk about last Christmas, and there's
even a game called Whamageddon,
and it's something that you can print off.
It's the first person to go the longest without hearing wham
on the radio, and so that's kind
of an office game that a lot of people play.
I know I think it just became popular a couple years ago,
like on TikTok or something, but
it is pretty funny.
How long can you go before you hear wham?
Last Christmas, and you have
a little bet going with your office, folks.
I like it.
I'm going to make the newsroom take the bet here,
and we'll see who wins as far as Fox 6 goes.
We were chatting during Wake Up,
and you said that you guys do play my favorite Christmas song.
You know, I'm a big Jonas Brothers girly,
and you guys, you have Like It's Christmas.
You're going to play that throughout the season?
We do have that one.
Yep, yep.
And if you request it, we'll play it.
Because, you know, if people have a memory
or they have a certain emotion with a song,
we want to get it on for you.
Did you go to the Jonas Brothers show?
Oh, of course. It was my sixth time
in a year seeing them this past Sunday.
And did you see that the Jonas Brothers were at Estabrook Beer Garden?
Yes. And I'm just mad at the fact that no one told me
that I needed to get my booty over to
Estabrook. I would have been there.
I would have been at the beer garden. I need to meet them, Joe.
And you wouldn't have gone the speed limit you want.
Now, what would you say if you went up to the Jonas Brothers?
Do you have this figured out or?
You know what?
It's funny because people have asked me that.
And I actually, in my heart of hearts,
I don't think I should meet them because I don't think
that I would get words out.
But I think I would just be like, oh, my gosh, I love you guys so much.
I don't know.
Yeah.
You don't want to ruin it.
I did meet Nick Jonas one time, and he was very nice.
And he has a presence about him.
And basically, I left with the feeling of, he's in really good shape.
I need to like start working out a little bit.
Yeah, they all are doing pretty well with their techniques, for sure.
But they do a Christmas tour, the Jonas Brothers Christmas tour.
How cool would that be?
That would be amazing.
They had a Christmas movie last year,
so now they have an entire Christmas album.
So we could make it work.
We should pitch it together.
Yeah, we can pitch it together, and yeah,
they do have the Christmas movies.
They're the kind of actors where I can
see them doing Hallmark Christmas movies,
and that's another thing people love
that we talk about are the Hallmark Christmas movies.
And a lot of times it's a Midwestern town
or something like that is the plot,
and it's the same plot, like, you know,
the small-town girl goes to the big city.
And then she...
She falls in love with the guy
that she shouldn't be falling in love with.
And she goes back to the small town.
She falls in love with a baker.
And somewhere along the line, there's a dog named Holly.
I love a good Hallmark movie, unless it's starring a journalist.
Because then I go, well, this is unrealistic.
Like, the journalist that got holidays off, when does that happen?
No, but it's always fun to have.
A Christmas movie, a Christmas song.
So for anyone just joining us,
tell us more about the big day you had at B97.3,
officially playing the Christmas music.
Yeah, this morning.
I think this was the earliest I've ever launched Christmas music
because I've been doing it for about, well, Christmas-wise,
this is probably my 10th year doing it.
Um, you know,
You know, it just felt like the right time to do it.
A lot of people were asking us when we were going to make the flip,
make the switch to all Christmas music on B97.3,
And we thought, well, we
We want to ride the wave of the Brewers.
Everybody's in a good mood.
Let's just keep that going.
And the weather started to get a little cold.
We started seeing more and more Christmas stuff,
not only online, but, of course, in person.
So we thought we would make the switch and do it now.
And it seems like the right time.
It felt right.
It feels bigger this year just
because based on the response that we got.
And, of course, talking to you guys,
you're helping to get the word out there a lot.
But we decorated the studio, and we've had a lot of great contests.
um that have been going on again uh people were trying to
Guess what that first song was?
We have a lot of great sponsors.
Annex Wealth Management is sponsoring our Christmas music.
So a lot of great people are involved this year,
and they really, really wanted to be a part of it.
We just said, hey, we're going to be doing
Christmas in a big way this year,
and people instantly jumped on it,
whether it was online, whether it was sponsors.
So we're all over social media, not just on the radio,
but celebrating everything that is a Milwaukee Christmas.
We're very local.
We're going to be talking about all the things.
Things that are going on for you and your family,
recipes, memories of Milwaukee during Christmas,
taking pictures, there's already a ton
of stuff all over our social media.
I love it, and I love that you're helping
us celebrate even earlier this year
because it is never too early to start ringing in the holidays.
Joe, thank you so much for taking the time to join us here on Fox 6 Now
and for bringing us Christmas music.
All right, Haley, thank you so much for having us on again.
Thank you for all the support, and just because of that,
I'm going to play Jonas Brothers a little bit more for you.
Thank you so much. Music to my ears.
I'll be getting to my car at about 4:10. If you want to
play it, then I'll change my radio. It's a plan.
I love it. That is Joe joining us here. And again,
you guys, Christmas time is here at B97.3.
You heard him mention that they pressed the big red
button. So I want to actually pull up
their social media from earlier today at the moment
we started playing Christmas music.
Another year we have a Christmas forecast.
Several years, what's gonna be the first song
What's it going to be?
Here it is.
There's a need for a whole new order of protection against the big,
weak, inconsequential, and non-reform.
That's what we're talking about.
We're talking about the new energy.
Because it is the most wonderful time of the year.
How about here?
How about here?
Yes, it is the most wonderful time of the year.
All right.
