Disney is very much the owner of, well,
a lot of things, to be honest with you.
But for some, they don't mind partaking
in the things that made them great originally,
such as the Disney Channel and their Disney Channel original movies.
One franchise that was born of that over
the last few years was Zombies,
a film franchise about humans having to live with monsters,
and of course, had plenty of musical numbers and such.
Well, with Zombies 3 coming this year, let's look back
and see just how much you know about what happens in this series.
Allow us to show you Zombies Disney 10 Things You Didn't Know.
Addison and Zed's Kiss
A key element of the ending for Zombies 2
is that the main characters of Addison
and Zed went to a big dance together as a couple and finally kissed.
It was a sweet moment,
but if you thought it was done in one take, yeah, no.
According to Addison's actress, Meg, she and Milo,
Zed, probably locked lips at least eight
times during filming.
One time, my nose was a little smushed, and then, another time,
his face was kind of covering mine, Meg said.
It had to be perfectly lined up. It was really fun.
It was hilarious. Of course, after they kissed,
the cast and crew jokingly cheered and clapped
Clap for the actors.
Thankfully, filming that scene didn't feel weird to Meg,
even though Milo is her BFF
and has been since they met during auditions.
She felt totally comfortable with him.
The actors didn't have time to film all of Zombies 2 to lead
up to the kiss scene at the end.
Instead, they basically jumped right into it when production
began. We shot it, like, the first weekend of filming,
so it wasn't like the last scene. We
just kind of got that over with and we're good.
Not what you would've thought for that moment,
But sometimes you do these things to get them done
and ensure you can focus more
time on other elements.
Which, with this kind of film series, means the dance sequences,
dancing changes. If you somehow don't know,
Disney loves to do shows and movies that have
big dance and singing numbers when possible.
They don't do it all the time, but they'll
put it out there when they can,
and that goes big time for the zombies movies.
While all of the dance numbers seen
in the films were obviously choreographed,
many of the cast noted how each zombie and werewolf
and human character was able to deviate
slightly from the main moves.
It may look like we're all doing it together and it's synchronized,
but every person has their own sort of variation,
Milo said, adding how he liked that the individual
dance moves accurately reflected the type of monster,
aka zombie versus werewolf.
Rewatch the dance sequence for Do It Like The Zombies Do,
and you'll see what he means.
When one of the actresses behind
the werewolves, Ariel, talked about it,
she explained how they were able
to throw their arms wherever they wanted
and throw their legs how they wanted to because of their personalities.
The dances definitely feel unique for each character,
so having that kind of freedom to be the character
as you dance is welcome amongst the case.
First Day Problems
It may look fun to go and do a big movie,
especially one for Disney, but for those
actually in the movie, it can be a nerve-wracking experience.
Such was confirmed when Ariel admitted
she was a little apprehensive on her first day.
And to top it off, she was three days late to
rehearsals in Toronto where the movies filmed.
I remember the first day I got there, I had
rehearsals the next day, Ariel said,
noting how Meg texted her when Ariel arrived in Canada to
to welcome her, which helped calm Arielle's nerves.
When Ariel arrived for work the next day,
she ran into Meg, Chandler Kinney, Willa,
and Pierce Jaza, Wyatt,
who all helped her learn the choreography she'd missed.
After that, we had game night the next day,
so right off the bat, we all really felt like a
family," Ariel said. Meg and Milo
and everybody from the first movie did the best job of making
us feel comfortable in a space where you're
not usually going to be so comfortable.
It made it a lot easier to pick up the dances
and the songs and act together because we just
got along so well. One thing
that most Disney Channel properties like to do is try and create
a feeling of family and friendship amongst the cast
so that they can perform better,
and this is a perfect example of that. Artistic freedom.
In the first Zombies movie,
Milo shared how the actors playing zombies were able to customize
their characters' look and style,
while the actors playing humans couldn't because the
zombies are all unique, while humans are more uniform.
Which helped making them feel more natural as zombies,
without having the more horror-centric
looks that zombies have in other media.
For zombies too, this was the same deal for the
actors playing werewolves.
Ariel explained how each werewolf had to wear certain items, but then
they were allowed to tweak and add on some flair
as long as it was representative of their character.
Because her character of Winter is quirky
and goes to the beat of her own drum,
Ariel came up with the idea to add spikes to her shoes,
as well as the big wristband with tons of faux fur around it
that none of the other werewolves wore.
This is very interesting to note because, as was confirmed,
Zombies 3 will have aliens enter the picture,
and one can only wonder how
those out-of-this-world characters will look when they arrive.
Night Shoots
Being a werewolf means coming out at night,
so several cast members had to film major
scenes around the time most people go to bed.
Ariel noted how, when you watch stuff on TV,
you'd think certain moments probably took like two seconds to film,
when in reality it took several hours,
even if the footage you see on screen
is only about 10 seconds long.
That's just how filming goes at times, sadly.
During the scene where the monsters decide
to force Seabrook to let them attend the prawn,
Meg wasn't in that scene,
but she stuck around set since it was Trevor Kordman's,
Bucky, last day of filming.
I was like, okay, I want to stay for this.
And then, the whole time we were just playing games.
That night was so much fun.
It was by the water, it was so pretty at night, Meg said.
So, while it may not have been the best
filming conditions for their sleep schedules,
they very much made it work.
The Mystery of the Parents
Believe it or not, the Zombies franchise has
multiple missing parents' storylines going on
for certain characters.
Milo noted in 2018 about Zombies that the mystery of Zed and Zoe's
mom was a mystery to them as well.
We meet their dad, but nothing is ever said
about their mom. And apparently,
that was also the case while filming Zombies 2. Milo admitted
that the cast casually talked about it on set,
but no references to her are made in either movie.
If we make a third one,
then maybe that should be a plot point," he said.
Clearly, because it would be odd if it wasn't mentioned.
And as for that other mystery parents, that would be with Addison,
whose connection with her real parents is tenuous at best.
And at the end of Zombies 2,
we see a meteor crash down that turns her hair briefly blue.
So perhaps Zombies 3 will focus not just on Zed
and Addison's relationship,
but also their quest to find their missing folks.
Werewolf Eyes
In the Zombies 2 film, when the werewolves feel threatened,
they go into attack mode
and their eyes brighten and intensify.
You might think that this is a VFX that
many Disney movies use to help build up the effect,
and you would be right in that.
It was done in post-production with special visual effects.
Actors didn't have to wear contact lenses
to help enhance the effect, but Ariel did
note how as her character became sicker throughout the movie,
due to the Moonstone's power weakening,
she had to have pale makeup applied to better look the part.
Sometimes it's the smallest of details that make things work.
