The question I get most on this channel is “what pack is that?” I answer it, it gets buried, and two days later someone asks again. So this year I’m trying something different.
PopFly asked me to be one of the first creators to build a collection on PopFly Shop. It’s a place where people who actually use this stuff share the gear they’d recommend. Everything in this video is in my collection, plus a few things I didn’t have time to fit in.
So the most common comment I get
on this channel isn't about knots or fire or
where I filmed. It's what pack is that? Which I love.
But I answer it and it gets buried under
a few hundred other comments and two days later
someone asks me the same thing.
So this year I'm trying something new.
This video is sponsored by PopFly
and they're building something called PopFly Shop where
people who actually use this stuff put together collections
of gear that they'd recommend.
They asked me to be one of the first ones to build one,
which I think is pretty fun.
So this is my collection.
Everything you're about to see in this video is in here.
And there's probably more on the list
that I just didn't have time to stuff into this video.
So you tap on something, you see what it is and why I carry it,
and then you can go grab it for yourself if you want to.
I didn't put anything in here just to fill a slot.
If it's not in my pack, it's not in the collection.
I've used this stuff for a long time
so I know that it is good stuff and I would recommend it
to my friends. And with the holidays coming up
if you're shopping for the person in your life
who's always out in the woods
or just trying to figure out what is actually worth the money
then that's what this is for. All right so let's get into it.
We're starting with some of the smaller items.
First up on the list is the Oclip
Oclip 2 Ultra and now I just picked this up recently
but I had the Oclip 1 before this
and absolutely loved it.
This is an awesome light that you can clip onto your hat
or whatever else you want to.
It has a magnetic base on it and it's got ultraviolet,
it's got red light and it's got
different modes for the white light as well.
So you can cycle through and get a spot
or a flood which is really cool.
The head is adjustable.
This thing is really excellent for backpacking,
for camping, or just for working around the
house.
So this is definitely in my kit.
I also have, of course, the Garmin InReach Mini.
I'm actually suggesting the newest one because it's just better.
But this one has been on my backpack for years
and it allows me to text message people that
I need to get a hold of and know where I'm going.
So this is a
Crucial piece of kit for me,
and with the SOS feature, it's a good peace of mind.
I also have this little guy which is the FlexTail pump
and this is what I use to inflate my air
mattresses. Now I know I could use the stuff sack
but I just really enjoy using this and it doubles
as a light which if this thing was charged I could show you.
But I like to hang this from the middle
of my tent and I can see where my tent
is coming back off the trail at night and it's just a
Just a wonderful piece of gear.
Multifunction, which I like in gear.
And I like to have a battery bank on me.
This one is made by Goal Zero.
This is the Venture 75.
And I really like it.
It's not the lightest thing in the world,
but it will recharge my phone several times
and even top off a camera battery or two if I need to.
And it handles the cold very well.
So I like that for winter camping.
Next up is a Rocky Talkie.
Now, these are just dead simple radios that I like to have with me,
especially if I'm traveling with other people.
These are really great to stay in touch and line of sight.
I think you can get like a mile or two out of them.
And in a mountain situation, you get a little bit less,
but excellent weatherproof walkie-talkies.
Highly recommend these.
These are very rugged.
Speaking of rugged,
one thing that I've really gotten into is these Ombra's glasses.
These don't have frames on them,
so they just kind of strap onto your head.
And these are prescription for me,
but you can get them without prescription, of course.
And they're just super lightweight, very durable.
Excellent outdoor glasses.
If you need sunglasses, then definitely check out Ombras.
Next up, I've got my ditty bag.
Now, this is where I keep all of my must-have items when I am camping.
This is made by Backcountry Exposure.
Devin over there made this for me,
and he sells them now, and they're just awesome.
I really love it.
I can put my food in here.
I can put two to three days worth of food,
or I can put all of my small items that
We'd get lost in my pack otherwise.
So definitely check out this.
This is the Mesa food bag.
And for holding my camera, I like to take this tripod with me.
This is the Peak Design Carbon Fiber.
This is the four-section tripod.
And I really love it because it's just dead simple to use.
It's got this ring on top that you can just adjust
your camera angle super easily, super quickly.
And it's just...
Excellent piece of kit that I always have with me.
Speaking of Peak Design,
if you are a content creator and you don't have one of these,
definitely look into getting one.
This is the Peak Design clip.
This just straps onto your bag or on the shoulder strap
and your Arca Swiss plate will clip right into it like that.
So I've had this one for about five or six years and it's just perfect.
Next up is this.
Yes, this is the
Infamous, or famous, TOAKS Titanium Pot,
750 milliliter pot is titanium, and it has the
Pika lid with it.
And the Pika lid is really cool
because you can take a gas canister and snap it right
into the top, and it has room in the bottom for your stove,
which my favorite stove right
now is the Green Peak by Fire Maple.
Green Peak stove has an igniter on it.
Love this thing, it's dead simple.
Definitely should have one of these.
I also, for cooking, really do enjoy using the Jetboil
Flash 1 liter. This thing is also really simple to use.
It's got an igniter built into it,
so you just turn it and it'll start right up.
And you can put the optional
Thank you.
mount on it to put a skittle on it. Skittle.
Skillet. A skillet on it. Not a skittle.
And yeah, so this is great and when it heats up,
this design turns orange so you can tell when the water is boiling,
which is a nice feature.
And for first aid, I like to take the Hiker Medic by MyMedic.
This is a really great little hiking kit.
It's got moleskin or Leukotape in it for blisters.
It's got all kinds of stuff like electrolytes.
and everything you might need lip balm stuff like that so this has been
a lifesaver for me on many occasions
and for knives because i do love knives
one of my favorite knives is made by Outdoor Element this is the Scout
feather and what makes this knife unique and super cool
is that it has a ferrocerium rod built into the sheath
and so you can throw sparks to start a fire
Or to light a stove.
And it's just, it weighs, I think,
three and a half ounces, four ounces, something like that.
So it's very light. You can take it with you backpacking.
It's got a belt clip that kind of locks,
which keeps it secure in your pocket, a pocket clip.
And it does have a whistle on the back.
So in case you are in need of a whistle to get somebody's attention,
you've got one right there built into the knife.
It's a great knife.
For a headlamp, when I'm not using the Oclip 2 Ultra,
I'm using the Perrin 2 Mini.
This is a really great headlamp,
super lightweight and you can take it off of the headlamp mount.
And again, it's got a magnetic base
and you can kind of set this thing up
or you can clip it onto your hat.
Excellent little light.
For cooking utensils, I've tried a lot of things.
And lately, what I've really been enjoying is these Jetboil utensils.
These are really nice.
They kind of stack together like this.
They clip together and then they do extend.
So you can make them longer to fit into like a backpacking meal.
So that is pretty special.
I really do like these a lot.
Put those on the list.
Now getting into some bigger items.
I really have been liking this Bear Vault BV1. This is a
collapsible BearVault so you can adjust it
for the size trip that you're on or if you're going
on a long trip as you eat the food you can slowly make
this thing smaller because it collapses in on
itself. Really a great backpacking tool to have.
And for sleep, I've got a couple of options
that I have done a lot of camping with these
two sleeping pads, and I really do like them.
They both have pretty high R values, so they're great in cold weather.
The first one is a Therm-a-Rest NeoAir, and I really like this pad.
It's very comfortable.
It's very, very lightweight and small.
The next one's a little more bulky, but it's still light.
And this is the Sea to Summit EtherLight XT Extreme.
And this one I can basically put down directly on the snow and camp,
which I really love to do when I am winter camping.
If I'm just making like a primitive shelter or something, I really like
to bring this one with me because I can trust that it'll keep me warm.
And one of the jackets that I used a lot last year
and I'm looking forward to using again this season
is the Vantage Alpine Jacket by Outdoor Vitals.
And this thing is a really great...
puffy jacket and it's got specially designed baffles
that are not sewn they're woven in so
you don't have any stitch holes
that the wind can pass through which is fantastic
it keeps you nice and warm so i really like
this jacket it's extremely lightweight
And since we're on an Outdoor Vitals kick here,
I do love their Storm Loft 15F quilt.
This is a quilt that I like to take with me in the wintertime.
So this paired with some down booties
is an excellent winter camping setup.
Love this quilt. It's been really good for me.
And the pack. I've got an Outdoor Vitals Shadow Light pack.
And this is the new one. This is the Shadow Light 60.
Which is just a really cool design
because it's got the center zip on it and the center
zip is really great for accessing things
if you don't want to just yard sale your bag.
Thank you.
You can get to whatever you need right through
that center zip and it's got
nice pockets on the outside for water bottles
and for I put my camping my big camping light
Claymore light in here and my tripod
and whatnot so this is an excellent
Ultralight backpack used it on many trips now
and really do enjoy using it. It's very comfortable
That's just some of the gear that I have on my list
And I hope that you have found something in there that was new
or interesting to you
You can pick it up off of the shop that's set up there
So definitely check out the other items
on my list that I didn't mention here
They're all items that I have tested and loved
I'm happy to share them with you, my friends.
If I missed anything, let me know
in the comments what you like to take with you on backpacking
trips and I will check it out.
Thank you to PopFly for sponsoring this video.
I hope you found this useful or at least entertaining.
We'll see you later.
