In the wake of election night,
big changes are coming soon to Capitol Hill.
Yeah, there's a lot to watch here in the coming months.
And the anchor of Fox News Sunday, Shannon Bream,
joins us live in Washington this morning to discuss everything.
Good morning, Shannon. Let's start with the mood on Capitol Hill.
What's the mood? What's the talk there after election night?
Well, Tom and Hannah, great to see you guys.
If you're a Republican, you're shell-shocked.
You're trying to figure out where you go from here.
There's a lot of finger-pointing and
blaming, and there have to be soul-searching
conversations within the party about where
you go next. You saw the lengthy post
from the vice president the day after.
That's a starting point, but there are a lot
of conversations happening as leadership
Elections start happening next week for who's going to lead
the republicans moving forward on Capitol Hill. Democrats are joyous.
They feel like it was way better than even their best case scenario.
And so they've got kind of two tracks.
There's the whole, hey, you better lawyer up warning that came.
There will be investigations and attempts at impeachment.
But the leadership is trying to signal, hey,
we're going to focus on legislative stuff.
We promise people relief is on the way.
We got to prove we can actually do something.
Well, we know some of these newly elected Democrats
have already started calling for changes in leadership.
We've even heard that from Peggy Flanagan here in our state.
How secure are the roles of people like Hakeem Jeffries
and then when you compare that to old school Chuck Schumer?
Yeah, great question. And a lot of people feel like, you know,
in the progressive wing of the Democrat Party, they had such
a fantastic night on Tuesday that they should be calling the shots.
It's hard to oust long timers in Washington.
Chuck Schumer feels confident he's going
to be the majority leader in the new Senate. But you're right.
There are a number of candidates now senators elect
who had suggested they wouldn't vote for him.
And so they want assurances about what he's going to do about
the Iran war and some other things before those votes can come in.
I think Hakeem Jeffries, who is now the minority leader,
is going to be the majority leader in the new Senate.
The minority leader in the House is going
to have a really good shot at becoming speaker.
I think he's got a wide enough margin that even
though the progressive block that's moving
in is going to have a lot of leverage,
I don't think it will be enough to keep him from assuming
the speakership.
It would be historic.
So we'll see.
We'll know soon with those leadership elections.
Okay.
Shannon, real quick in our last seconds here,
who do you have on the show this Sunday?
I've got New York City Mayor Mamdani.
He feels very good about where Democrats,
Socialists, and Progressives are going.
So I press him about some of the things that they're advocating for.
And Todd Blanche, the Attorney General,
among many things we'll talk about that fight in
Alaska over the Senate seat there.
All right, Shannon Bream, we'll be watching this Sunday.
Thanks so much for joining us and we'll see you again soon.
See you then.
Yeah.
