Matthew Farwell won’t testify as defense rests in trial over Sandra Birchmore's death

Farwell will not testify in his trial. He's the former Stoughton police officer accused of killing Sandra Birchmore and her unborn child. Boston 25 News reporter Ryan Breslin on scene at the federal courthouse where jurors are hearing from the final witnesses. The defense is once again trying to bring witnesses to the stand that can contradict what prosecution witnesses had previously said. Now today jurors, they heard from Dr Daniel Loper, a digital forensic analyst who reviewed device data and surveillance video. The prosecution's Prosecution's witness, Jessica Hyde, also reviewed that data. It includes two cell phones from Sandra Birchmore, her MacBook and Apple Watch, Matthew Farwell's phones and surveillance video from Birchmore's Canton apartment. Loper found a three-second difference in the video footage from what the prosecution's witness testified to. He also says he observed Sandra Birchmore taking steps on that surveillance video that were not recorded in her step count on her health data. The defense asked Loper about a note in In the notes application, the body of the note started with suicide, missing an I in the word, but that note was from September 2016 and originated on her old iPhone. The morning that Birchmore allegedly died, an image of a purple ribbon was cached from Facebook. While Loper says Hyde's testimony did not include that Sandra Birchmore then manually searched the internet for the color of the suicide ribbon, the prosecution asked, quote, You didn't find any artifacts that reflected a search for suicidal hangings on February 1st. No, Loper said. You didn't find suicide notes. No, Loper said. You didn't find goodbye messages to friends on February 1st. Loper answered no. Jessica Hyde was in the courtroom for Loper's testimony.
