A family in Marysville is hoping
the community can help bring their lost horse home.
Cheyenne disappeared in the Mount Adams Wilderness area.
Fox 13's Jennifer Dowling talked with the family
and has a closer look at the search to find her.
This is Cheyenne's friend, another mare named Maple.
She's really missing Cheyenne, along with her human family,
and they've offered a $1,000 reward for the white mare's safe return.
You're a good girl?
Yeah.
Melissa Holman has spent the past few weeks trying
to comfort her trail horse, Maple,
who now has an empty space next to her in the barn.
She misses her sister.
That sister, Cheyenne, a great Appaloosa cross
with a sunny disposition,
was always ready to greet visitors.
Yes, good. Yeah.
Now there's a cloud hanging over both humans
and animals on this little farm
with the beloved member of the family now missing.
She was very quiet.
She's been very withdrawn.
This is definitely the longest they have been separated.
What do you have to say?
Cheyenne disappeared after Melissa took her on a trail riding trip
on the north side of the Mount Adams Wilderness Area October 7th.
This Coldwater Creek feels so good on my feet.
They were about six miles up the mountain.
Thank you.
When Melissa stopped to take photos, but Cheyenne had other plans.
It was total sass.
The horse turned and hurried down the trail they had just ridden up.
And she was just like, bye, and just.
took off walking. Melissa couldn't catch her and she disappeared.
She searched on the long hike
back on foot and was heartbroken when she returned to an empty camp.
No sign and very quickly had
a number of volunteers with horses
that were well trained for backcountry riding. This is
what Cheyenne was wearing when she went missing.
An English style saddle, a purple halter and purple
booties on her hooves. This map shows where
Cheyenne took off near Lava Ring Point.
Where a broken rein was found on the 7th
and where hoof prints were spotted October 25th.
Very, very rapidly losing any kind of weather window
to be able to search on horseback.
Melissa's hoping elk hunters and winter sports enthusiasts will
help bring new clues to light so that she can find Cheyenne.
She also started an online fundraiser for aerial searches
and is offering a $1,000 reward for her return.
A lot of good people out there. A lot of people that have been.
Putting a lot of time in you know doing what they can.
It's been really heartbreaking to come home
I'm home.
from searching and come home to her and be like I don't I don't have
her I don't know where she is
I don't know if she's coming back.
We've gotten posts and comments from all over the world
world.
you know people hearing about Cheyenne's story
