A mid October fungi hunt in woodlands with my friend Colin.
Colin harvests edible fungi year round and knows loads of great spots - this video was filmed at one of the places he harvests fungi for local restaurants.
Big thanks to Colin for the knowledge he shared during this hunt and hopefully that is passed on to the viewers. Learning about all aspects of outdoor life is very important and I'm trying to fill in gaps where my knowledge is lacking - knowing which fungi fruit at different times of the year, what type of conditions they like and whether they are edible in the various stages of their development is good to know as it is a vastly underused resource in the UK and most of the 'developed' world.
Unfortunately much of our knowledge of nature, wild edibles / medicinal plants and the beliefs surrounding it in the UK and Europe was wiped out during the 'Witch trials' by puritans centuries ago so regaining some of that lost or suppressed knowledge should be high on any 'bushcrafter' or 'survivalists' list of things to learn.
