And let's take a look at some of our local congressional races.
First up, Democrat Patty Garcia is the winner
in the 4th Congressional District.
The U.S. House seat left open by Chuy Garcia.
No relation there.
She was his former chief of staff.
Democrat LaShawn Ford wins in a landslide against Republican Chad Coppe
in the 7th Congressional District.
He will succeed longtime Congressman Danny Davis.
To the 2nd District we go.
Democrat Donna Miller.
is the winner there,
with about three times the number of votes that Michael Nowak got.
She replaces Congresswoman Robin Kelly,
who gave up her seat in a failed bid for U.S. Senate.
And in the 8th Congressional District,
Democrat Melissa Bean has won over Republican Jennifer Davis.
She will succeed five-time incumbent Raja Krishnamurthy.
And in the 9th Congressional District,
Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss
has defeated Republican John Ellison.
So Biss will replace
longtime Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky,
who has held that seat since 1998.
And the blue wave continued in Texas.
Gina Hinojosa will become the third female governor in Texas's history.
She's currently a state rep and a former civil rights lawyer.
Now, the last time a Democrat served
in the governor's mansion was Ann Richards,
who lost re-election to George W. Bush back in 1994.
And the governor-elect addressed an enthusiastic crowd last night.
Only here, where no matter where you come from,
No matter how humble your beginnings.
Your life can be bigger than your dreams.
Tonight, Texas, we answered,
and we did not whisper.
We answered loud enough for every billionaire,
every lobbyist, and every corruption here.
This belongs to us.
So this means current Governor Greg Abbott lost his campaign,
outspent hers by millions of dollars.
He has been Texas' governor since 2015,
Texas not having any term limits for governor.
And a controversial election for governor
of Ohio goes to the Democrats as well.
Democrat Amy Acton defeated Republican Vivek Ramaswamy.
And this is the race that gained widespread attention after Ramaswamy's
campaign ran an attack ad featuring Acton's estranged mother.
Acton now becomes the first woman elected governor of Ohio.
To Georgia we go now, where Democrat Keisha
Lance Bottoms defeated Republican Rick Jackson.
She now becomes the first black woman
to be elected governor in history there.
Bottoms is the former mayor of Atlanta, and she says her victory shows
the power of the ballot box over big political spending,
a nod to the more than $200 million
that Jackson spent on his own campaign.
