All right, let's turn now to our midterm results.
It was a very big night for Democrats across the U.S.
They have taken control of both the House and the Senate.
Saquon, joining us with a breakdown of some
of the biggest races we've been following.
Hi, Sae.
Hi, ladies. Good morning to you.
Yeah, I mean, as you mentioned, it was a historic night for
Democrats all across the country.
Many of them are calling this a blue tsunami rather than a
blue wave based on the results that they saw come in last night.
Democrats flipped at least seven
Senate seats across battleground states and deep red states.
And we also know in the House,
Democrats flipped more than two dozen districts.
Much of that momentum really crashed through
Michigan. As you might recall,
tensions were very high in the days leading up to Election Day.
When former Democratic candidate Haley Stevens shocked her own staff
and party by endorsing
Republican Mike Rogers.
But Democrat Abdul Al-Sayed is still pulled off
that decisive victory here defeating Rogers
by seven points, 52 to 45%,
Al-Sayed makes history as the first Muslim serving in the
US Senate.
At first, they pointed to my name and my faith as if to say,
he's a little different.
And when it didn't work,
They tried to guilt me by association,
and when that didn't work, they went all in on
one of the ugliest campaigns we've seen in our lifetimes.
They might have been pointing to my
name and my faith, but we all know that my name
and my faith aren't the reason you can't afford
your gas, not the reason you can't afford your groceries,
not the reason you can't see a doctor.
Well, Al Sayed's win helped secure a huge flip in Washington.
Democrats went into election night
needing four seats to take the Senate majority
and very much surpassed that mark by flipping seven.
With combined control of both the House and the Senate,
Democrats now hold full majority in
Capitol Hill, completely redefining the balance
of power here for the next two years. Here's the
reaction we got from President Donald Trump.
Congratulations to the Democrats. They did a
They've been looking for this one for 11 years.
And they finally got it, but I don't view it as a hit on me.
I think what we've done,
we've had the greatest two years in the history
of the presidency in terms of the economy,
in terms of all the things that we've done.
Look at the border, the border was an open
sieve and within two months it was totally closed.
This is not a partisan moment,
this is a patriotic one.
This is not a blue moment or a red moment.
It's a red, white and blue moment because America has won tonight.
Well, the president also did tell several
outlets last night just after it was announced
and projected that Democrats were going
to take full control of the chambers.
Thank you very much.
He did say that if he were on the ballot,
it would have been a landslide. He told multiple
outlets this yesterday.
But of course, in the end, he did congratulate Democrats for what
Democrats are calling a blue tsunami.
Obviously, there are some races that still have yet to be
called. Well, of course, keep following
that and we'll update that on our website, foxchicago.com.
Guys, thank you say.
