Now back to some of our local race results here.
Former at-large council member Robert White
is projected to be the D.C. delegate.
He will replace Eleanor Holmes Norton.
The projected victory comes one day
after he resigned from his council seat
due to a decades-old law that forbids the D.C. delegate.
...to hold another paid public office.
In Prince George's County, Prince George's County Executive
Aisha Braveboy projected to win re-election as well.
She faced off against Tanya Sweat,
who was a write-in candidate in that race.
Montgomery County has a new county executive for the first time
since 2018, Will Jawando, defeating Republican nominee Esther Wells.
Jawando replaces Mark Elrich,
who could not seek another term due to term limits.
Maryland also re-electing Anthony Brown as Attorney General.
Not a lot of changes there, or upsets, I should say,
when it came to some of the favorites in the local races.
Let's go to Virginia now.
How do voters in the Commonwealth feel about the results?
Fox 5's Stephanie Ramirez is live now to find out.
Steph, good morning.
Hey, good morning, guys. So we're in Sterling,
Virginia, this morning, Loudoun County. And I
got to tell you, in the county, preliminary
election results show that a little over half
of those registered to vote did cast their ballot
in this midterm election. Now, we did run into
some folks who are not wanting to talk on camera,
not sounding too happy with the results. But
others, we are hearing some folks
who are sounding more cautiously optimistic about the results in
the area. We'll start with a gentleman here
who spoke with us. He says he's from New York,
just traveling through the area.
I mean, I hope, I hope it helps. It gives a little more balance, but.
I mean, it's really good.
And let's see what are the opinions of the future,
like where are those results?
Why good?
Let's see, what is the change?
But I really hope that this is something that can help bring
the country together, you know, because when you're doing well,
you're positive and it, you know, promotes positivity.
So I hope that it's a good thing for our country.
You guys also want to note here in the county,
other preliminary figures show residents voting overwhelmingly Democrat
in the Virginia's Senate race.
Loudoun also voted blue, keeping
Representative Suhas Subramanyam in his seat.
And preliminary results
also show that the county voted in lockstep with the statewide voters
who approved all three constitutional amendments on the ballot
that will now protect reproductive rights, same-sex marriage rights,
and restore voting rights for felons released from incarceration.
Looking at the data,
we also saw not as many people voted by mail-in ballot.
Here in Loudoun County,
most of them either early in person or in person on Election Day.
Marissa, Steve.
