1 teen girl dead, another critically injured in Prince George's County shooting

We are following a developing story out of Prince George's County, Langley Park, to be more specific, where one teenage girl was killed and another critically injured. Bob Barner now joins us with the latest. Bob, what can you tell us? Yeah, Guy, that's the sad reality, that there is a teenage girl, not sure her precise age, but was shot and killed here at about 1:50 this morning, and another girl was critically injured, taken to the hospital, and I just kind of want to show you where we are. We're just kind of inside the fence here, and I think you might be able to see the police tape. This is behind an apartment community called the Villages at Langley, and in this kind kind of field area behind the buildings is where. The shooting took place and where that teenage girl sadly lost her life this morning and the other one was quickly rushed to the hospital. I want to play for you a video. It's some video that a neighbor shot, but also the first thing you're going to see is video from a neighbor's home security camera. It's an image of the scene and you'll hear the gunshots, about 10 of them. And he says the time was exactly 1:47 this morning. I don't know if you were able to hear them, but there were a number of gunshots, and this was the scene afterward that the neighbor recorded. Prince George's County Police tell us, and you see one of the victims being loaded into the ambulance there, a very sad scene here overnight. Prince George's County Police tell us they don't believe this was a random shooting, that for whatever reason these two girls were likely targeted. We're not sure what it was about, so no suspects, no motive. But the people who live in this area tell us that this is just the latest. Deadly violence in this very neighborhood within a quarter mile radius. Just last Thursday, an 18-year-old man was found shot and killed just up the street here at the Langley Park Rec Center on the grounds of the Rec Center. And then back in late June, Shamari Stone did a whole report about a 16-year-old boy who was shot and killed right here, just up the street here. And one of the things that people tell us who live in this area is that for about the past year or so. Food vendors at night have been setting up, and we'll have video of that we can show you later on Fox 5, where they just set up, it looks like a flea market, right on the street here. And this is Merrimack Drive here in Langley Park. And they believe, the neighbors believe, that the food vendors, again, it becomes kind of like an unofficial food flea market here at night. That that is bringing in some of the element that is leading to this gun violence. So another neighbor says this could be gangs as far as the people who live here are concerned. They just don't know, but they'd like it to stop. And the most recent deadly violence, unfortunately, has claimed the life of a young girl, a teenage girl, excuse me, guy. And another one teenage girl is fighting for her life in the hospital. Yeah, just truly pulls at the heartstrings, Bob. Of course, the Homicide Unit detectives now asking for further information.
