From Fox 5, it's time for a good night, New York.
Does that work?
Good evening, I'm Crystal Young.
And I'm Ryan Christopher.
Welcome here to Good Night, New York.
Hope you had a nice day today.
We have an amazing show coming up tonight.
There's this video that came out.
We love to dance on Good Night, New York.
As you well know.
But there's new scientific research from Northumbria University.
Have you ever heard of that university?
I have never heard of that university.
I haven't either.
It sounds so made up.
It sounds so fake and so does this video.
Because I saw this video like 10 years ago.
I don't know why it's circulating now like it's a new thing.
Are you sure?
I'm telling you, Crystal.
So I've seen this video because it's obviously
Modeled after me, because this is how
I dance, you know what I'm saying?
Wow!
So they find that women find men's dance moves
the most attractive when they feature
large, varied movements of the neck and torso,
combined with rhythmic, energetic use of the
upper body and faster twisting movements of the right knee.
Come on, what are we talking about here?
Okay, this is insane.
If you dance like that, I would leave you
on the dance floor and go, I don't know,
get some more shrimp cocktail, another drink,
hide in the bathroom, maybe find a new date.
No.
Oh, Lord, no.
This is so...
Oh, it's in England.
This is so not cool.
You know what kind of dancing I like?
What?
I like the Jalen Brunson.
Remember him?
Oh, yeah.
Remember him when he just did like the little...
The little song.
Like he was barely moving.
He was like, you know...
I got it going on.
Less is more, right?
That's exactly right.
I feel like any guy, like, you can't go
wrong with, like, a little two-step.
You just got to have a little rhythm.
You don't have to move a lot.
Right, right, right, right, right.
You know, move your hips, move your shoulders
a little bit, then you're good to go.
Do I look like that guy, like the stick figure right now?
Oh, you kind of do.
Like, what were those moves, by the way?
The stick figure was green.
He was like, like, you ain't getting any tonight, bro.
Wow.
Like, let's be real.
Wow, because Ryan knows.
I'm certainly not getting any tonight.
Ryan is the king of getting some.
Oh, yeah.
I was going to say.
Maybe nine months ago, Crystal, but...
Not now?
Yeah, certainly not.
Okay, but earlier this week,
it was officially announced that Jay-Z, Hova, is going to be
the headliner for Super Bowl 61, the halftime show.
Roc Nation, his company, is the one who selects the artist.
Some people think it's a little crazy that Jay selected himself.
Others, he's one of the goats.
So, you know, he's a legend in his own right.
But there he is.
They put out this video.
And there's a particular number of goats in that video, Crystal.
Yes, in the commercial, there were 11 goats that appeared.
So now you know that the word goat
also is an acronym for the greatest of all time.
So maybe that is a hint that there's going to be 11 guests.
That could appear.
But hypothetically, if there were to be 11 people on stage,
we assume Beyonce would be one.
Right.
That's obvious.
Right, right, right, right, right.
So we have our list of other people
that Hova could potentially bring out for the halftime show.
Crystal, you're up first.
Here's Crystal's top five of potential co-headliners.
Right.
In no particular order, Rihanna.
I mean, he kind of found her, shaped her.
And she already performed
at the Super Bowl halftime show a few years ago.
She was pregnant.
100%.
So she knows what she's doing.
Okay.
Snoop Dogg.
Who also just performed at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Kendrick.
Who just performed at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Nah.
Who has not, but he did have beef with Jay-Z,
and then he squashed it, so that would be
cool.
100%.
Two hip-hop goats.
He's from Queens, and he's definitely a goat, and Eminem.
Who also just performed at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Okay.
Can we get somebody new?
Can we get Drake up there?
Let's see your list.
No, we cannot get Drake up there.
Why not?
Because he's someplace wine.
No, but no, listen, Drake and Jay-Z are beefing right now.
He's busy.
That's what I'm trying to say.
Okay, how about this?
Okay.
New York State of Mind, Alicia Keys.
Ask the freaking Louie.
Absolutely.
That would be so cool.
Genius.
Right?
They've collaborated, Jay and Swizzy,
Okay.
Swiss Beats.
and of course, Alicia and Swizz are married,
Oh!
They've got a new song.
so that would be cool even to have them DJ the set.
Oh!
Oh!
I like it, I like it.
Oh!
Oh!
Oh, wait, what was our friend DJ D-Nice?
Oh!
Oh!
Remember, he opened the show at Yankee Stadium,
Oh!
Oh!
and he might be one of the guest DJs,
Oh!
Oh!
but we didn't put him on the list.
Oh!
Also, Fat Joe and Jada Kiss.
Oh!
Oh!
Jada had a little beef with Jay back in the day, but it's all good now.
Oh!
Oh!
Oh!
And they have their podcast, which
Oh!
Oh!
is hilarious, and they're so New York.
Oh!
That would be cool.
Oh!
And last but certainly not least, Pharrell
Oh!
Williams, who's another collaborator,
Oh!
and these are all people that he did
bring out on stage, minus Swizz Beatz.
at his Yankee Stadium show.
So anything's possible.
I think that we're going to get
at least nine.
I don't know where
I'm coming up with that.
We got a lot of those peeps.
Nine?
I think...
All of them?
Zero.
No, no.
I think it's going to be Jay
the whole set.
I think he wants to prove a point
to all the other artists out there
that he's the GOAT.
No.
I'm telling you.
I'm putting my money
to no other guests.
Maybe Beyonce,
but nobody else.
Okay, well you're going
to lose some money.
All right. Well, let's put some money on it.
Let's put those red high heels on the line and
then we'll see how you feel.
These red high heels are hashtag priceless.
Oh, that they are. All right. Fair enough.
If Ryan is wrong, he has to wear the high heels.
Okay, well, he's going to have to chop some toes off.
I mean, what size are your feet?
Twelve.
Oh.
How about you?
Oh, okay.
Maybe toes and a part of the heel.
I'm an eight and a half, so not too tiny.
Okay.
But I don't know if you're going to fit into these jammies.
But I can get you a red pair to fit you, boo.
Please do.
Okay.
Or maybe some boots.
Maybe those red boots from Kinky Boots.
Oh, Kinky Boots.
Yeah, that's not on Broadway anymore.
I already got those platform boots.
Okay, all right, we'll get you a nice pair of stilettos.
I'm trying to have my feet look like a 10-pound sausage
in a 5-pound casing, you know what I'm saying?
Okay, you are going down later.
If y'all don't see Ryan no more,
you'll know I choked him in the commercial break.
I thought you were saying it in other ways,
because you were saying I don't get none,
so I thought, you know, I didn't know it was greed.
This is consequence, Mr. Garns.
You're shaking, Ms. Hawkins.
Yeah?
Your pupils are dilated.
Your pulse is elevated.
Totally present.
That is the opposite of insanity.
So why not shut up and have some fun?
Hallelujah.
Oh, okay.
Amen.
I tell Ryan that all the time.
Shut up and let's have some fun.
Let's do it.
Okay.
That was a scene from A Good Hand Wasted.
It's available for streaming
on the newly launched service Turnstile Plus, Friday, November
the 6th.
Shut up.
Let's just have some fun, shall we?
No, I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
We have one of the stars of the psychological thriller.
He is an Academy Award nominee.
We're talking about the one and only, the actor Terrence Howard.
Welcome to Good Night, New York.
Terrence, Terrence, Terrence.
Welcome.
Hallelujah.
Okay.
So I love the name of this, a hand, a good hand wasted.
As soon as I heard of it, I thought it's got
to have something to do with gambling.
It reminds me of Vegas, but it's a private island.
Yeah, it's a private island.
And it's the hand wasted more
so is the gift of life that's been given to you and your
opportunity to live on a daily basis.
And we trade that in for thrill seeking so much.
And we don't appreciate the cards that we've been handed.
Oh, that's interesting.
Throw that away and at the end of the day,
you're, you know, a good hand wasted, that's
your ass.
Yeah, that's a bad thing.
That's your ass.
Right.
Right.
Don't want to waste that away.
Yes, sure enough.
But it's so cool you're taking on the role
of a car dealer, like what did you do, go
to Atlantic City and just study those guys for a little bit or what?
I know, right?
Yeah, well we're not too far from the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles,
so I'll go over there,
sit down and watch the poker dealers.
The hardest thing was learning the...
You know, to be fluid with it and not looking at it
while you're doing...
So I spent about six weeks just doing that constantly.
And then the rest is just communicating.
But watching these young actors come in,
like I'm typically, when I'm on a set,
I'm a scene stealer.
I go for it.
But these guys...
Every single person that they brought in, I'd never seen them before,
but they were all, you know, head-cutters.
They all came 100% ready to do their dance, and it was beautiful.
So Ryan Lamar, the director, he knew what he
was doing when he was casting.
And mind you, we shot this in four days.
Wow!
You buried the lead! Four days!
Four days we shot this, you know.
Knocked it out.
Where did you guys film it?
Los Angeles.
Oh, in LA? Okay, cool.
But independent, and that's where we need
to get back to some of the best films I did.
We're always the independent ones where they need
the talent to come in and pour themselves out.
And when, you know, you've got the special effects,
you've got all of that, but that makes an actor bored.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, nobody wants to pull their punches.
You really want to swing those emotional shots and hit the heart.
And that's what we got the chance to do with this.
I love it.
Now, you've played so many characters that people love.
I mean, you were in Hustle and Flow,
of course, Empire aired on Fox, so...
I mean, we started a show called After Empire just
to ride off of the fact that all New
Yorkers were watching Empire, so we did a little After Empire.
Is there something that stands out for you that's like,
yes, that was my role, that seemed
like it was made for me?
Out of all of the movies, I guess the best man in Quentin.
Oh, okay.
Quentin was the one that was the easiest.
For me to be.
That was the one that if I had to be one character the rest of my life,
I would be Quentin.
What about that, though?
Like, what did you tap into that you felt like, yes?
Because Quentin, he...
He was born with the proverbial gift of gab, but he didn't lie.
He didn't mislead.
He was honest and forthright and, you know,
the earnest, the earnestness of him.
It's like that's the kind of friend I want to have in my life.
So that's the kind of friend I want,
you know, other people to be like in mine.
That's going to tell me the truth.
Right, right, right.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Ahead of you.
Yes, we go way back.
We were married a long time ago.
Amazing.
We got two kids.
How are they, by the way?
I haven't visited.
One's in medical school.
The other one's in jail.
I'm sorry I haven't sent any money.
That's okay.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Don't worry.
I still love you.
Do they really?
I've never visited, and I never paid for their education,
and the kids we had together are
still, they still love me?
Pictures are everywhere in the house.
That's all they needed was pictures.
Do they have my hair or your hair?
They have your hair.
Oh, my God.
I'm so sorry.
That's okay.
I'm so sorry.
And what we don't like, we just draw in.
You were my mustache.
Hashtag.
Yo, Conan's got to pay some child support or something.
That was Debbie Shields of Subway Takes with Kareem Rama
using her amazing improv skills with Conan O'Brien.
She's now, like, the star of New York City.
Absolutely.
And she's also a bar owner.
She owns Confessions Bar in Brooklyn,
and she has for a little more than two and a half years.
Debbie Shields, welcome to Good Night, New York.
Thank you.
Yay!
You're welcome, Debbie.
Yes.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
So cool.
When this first was published,
everybody around the newsroom was like, did you see this video
with this lady and Conan?
I mean, did you expect for it to become such a thing?
Never.
Never.
Okay.
This was filmed in early September.
Okay.
And I had forgotten about it.
I was like, okay, that happened and it was funny.
Maybe one day he'll let me know
when it's going to be aired or whatever.
And I'm in the bar one night and my staff starts telling me,
oh, my God, you're all over the place.
You're here. You're there. I was like, OK, paid it no attention.
It's like, OK, that's cool.
The next morning, eight o'clock in the morning, a neighborhood guy,
a cleanup guy calls me, Miss Debbie, you're all over the place.
Like, what are you talking about?
I'm asleep. You're all over the Internet.
I said, wow, OK. And then about.
Two hours later, I started getting the calls.
You're on Channel 4.
You're on Channel 5.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, my God.
Am I in trouble?
It's terrible.
I didn't get arrested.
What's going on?
Am I in trouble?
Yeah.
I like it.
But it's so cool.
And you're a proud Brooklyn native.
You're from Bed-Stuy.
Oh, yes.
So it's great that you're repping the community as well
and in a positive way full of love,
too.
Yes, yes, yes.
I love my community and they loved me before this.
Oh, good.
Before this.
Good, good, good, good.
They're yelling, hey, Auntie Deb,
and they're coming through the bar and they're...
Uh, supporting my business, and we do a lot of things in the bar.
I let a lot of people come in and give free birthday parties.
Oh, nice.
And art exhibits and pop-ups for the ladies that have their clothing.
What is the address? Where is it?
It's the number of angels.
Three, three.
Three, Marcus Garvey Boulevard in the heart of Bedford-Stuyvesant.
All right, I like that.
Now, I want to know how you got so good at improv.
I feel like that was just an internal thing
that you probably always were great.
Well, first of all, I didn't know the name of it.
I didn't know it was named improv.
I thought it was just kicking the gas.
You come for me, I'm coming for you.
And that's what I called it.
And I was raised in the church, so I was always ready.
I was raised to be ready.
I was a Girl Scout.
Girl Scouts are always supposed to be prepared.
My mom taught me and my dad.
So when we used to have the parties at my house,
my dad used to always bring me out in front of all his friends
and say, spell this word, spell that word.
Or I was in the church on the choir singing
and doing Bible verses and stuff like that.
So I was always put in the limelight.
Okay.
And so I guess that life prepares us for stuff
that we don't even have any idea that's going to happen.
Yes.
And I love making people laugh.
Yeah, and you certainly are doing that.
So what's next for you?
A little stand-up show?
Are you going to hit the road with Conan?
What's the deal?
And maybe a little surprise down the road with Kareem?
Yeah, we got a surprise coming down the road with Kareem.
Thank you.
Comedy nights that we have on Friday nights,
I always introduce the host.
And so I have so much fun.
I roast all the people in the audience.
They love it.
Karaoke nights, I'm roasting them like crazy.
And they still come up and sing.
I love it.
Are you guys out of your mind?
I love it.
I'm roasting you.
I'm talking about you.
I'm really getting off.
And you just keep signing up to sing.
And it's a no cell phone karaoke typically, right?
Yes.
Well, what's the vibe of your bar in general?
If you had to sort of paint a picture.
The vibe of my bar is...
Laid-back and community.
Okay.
We invite everyone in.
Okay.
We want every soul but a shoe sole in.
Okay, okay.
Okay, we want everybody but a dead body up in this house.
And they come in, and they drink, and they enjoy themselves.
And I have a confession box in my bar.
Oh, okay.
And they come in, and they write
the confessions, and they stick it in the box.
And, honey, let me tell you, that box is full...
Oh my goodness. Do you do anything with the confessions?
Yes, I do. Yes, I read them at events and let the bar react.
And we're working on a sort of a thing to do that as a podcast.
Yeah, I feel like you have things in the works.
Yes, yes, yes.
Cocktails and confessions?
Yes.
Just putting that out there as a little name or something.
Well, we definitely have cocks and tails at Confessions.
But we're doing cocktails at Confessions, too.
Check and check.
Expand things now.
All right, now.
That's right.
All right, so make sure that we head on over to Confessions,
New York City, nestled right,
and Bed-Stuy right in Brooklyn.
Support Debbie.
She's got such an amazing story.
And you're helping so many people, most importantly.
And goodbye.
We need more people like you.
Absolutely.
I love New York, and I love my community.
And it shows.
It shows.
And I love everyone around the world that is giving me a shout out.
I mean, from around the world.
You deserve it.
Thank you, thank you.
Keep being you.
Continued success.
Fox.
Aqua Roma, we're celebrating the Italian concept restaurant
serving contemporary Italian dishes
made with the freshest, high-quality ingredients.
But that's not all.
There's also some sushi involved.
Yes, but wait, there's more.
Joining us to show off some of their dishes
as well as the dishes from their sister restaurant,
which is called Aqua Kyoto, is Giovanni.
Giovanni.
Giovanni.
Leave off the last S for savings.
No, I, Giovanni, am a tart.
Chef G, welcome.
Yes, Chef G.
Thank you for having me here.
You're welcome.
Happy to have you.
Yes, we are Aqua.
Yes.
Aqua Rome and Aqua Kyoto.
I love it.
We're starting off with pecorino cheese.
Okay.
Massive wheel in front of me.
Okay.
Fettuccine white truffle.
What do you want more?
Nothing.
That's it.
Nothing.
Maybe a little bit of wine and we're good.
Yeah, we serve this table side at our restaurant.
Okay.
So basically this wheel of cheese is rolled in front of you.
Okay.
We have the fettuccine here.
Okay.
cooked and mixed with white truffle sauce
and pecorino sauce right and then we pour this lovely
lovely sauce on top look at that yes okay
when did you first fall in love with italian cuisine chef
i think i fell in love right where i was born i think
when i was born i always
um was in my mom's kitchen with my grandma
and my mom and yeah i just tried and you know i
You were good at it.
Look at me now.
Yes.
I like it.
I like it.
Oh my goodness.
That is so cheesy.
It's nice, silky, smooth.
The taste of white truffle, which is in season now.
Yes.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
And then do you shave a little on top right here?
Yes, we do.
All right.
And we also put some more.
I'm just holding it for Chef. I'm your assistant, that's all.
Some more cheese because we don't have enough.
There's never enough cheese.
And that white truffle here, beautifully thinly sliced on top.
I wish you could smell that too.
Yes, it's amazing, it's amazing, the smell of it.
It's insane, it's insane.
Now do you prefer black or white truffle? What's the big difference?
Well taste-wise, I think white truffle is more prestigious
and it smells so pungent for sure.
Black truffle is probably more affordable.
Yes, I was going to say one is more expensive,
one is a little bit more rare.
So the white truffle is way more expensive
and it's only for a limited period of time.
Black truffle's best time is now, it's coming, the season is now, so...
So...
I thought she was going to grab one
and we'd be in the middle.
I thought we were trying to be romantic with it.
Yes.
I didn't even pay attention.
I was like trying to cut a piece.
All right.
It's okay.
All right.
Well, I'm heartbroken,
so let's take a little break.
We'll be back here with Chef D.
We'll get some crazy glue for Ryan's heart.
Come back.
More Good Night New York in a minute.
Ahead of you.
We are back with the executive chef of Aqua Roma, Giovanni Attar.
There you go.
Okay, so now let's talk Japanese
as Ryan chows down on the Italian because
you have some Japanese offerings.
Yes, we do.
Okay.
We do.
So first of all,
Aqua Kyoto has got the longest sushi counter in New York.
So that's it.
I like that.
Aqua Kyoto is a bit more intimate, so it's lovely for,
you know, when you're going on a date.
Yes.
It would be romantic.
Share some sushi.
Yes.
So here we have some rice crisps.
Yes.
Rice crisps?
Rice crisp.
Rice crisp.
Rice puff, sorry.
Rice puff stuffed with guacamole.
And then on top we have chutoro and black sliced black truffle.
Wow, wow.
We have our famous spicy tuna roll here as well.
What are they in?
What's that?
I know.
At the bottom, they are served on a tuna bone.
On a tuna bone?
Oh, wow.
So this is the tuna bone.
And the rice puff is served on top.
I like that.
Yeah, so you basically grab that.
You go ahead.
Go ahead.
Like this, yeah?
Yeah.
Oh.
Oh, no.
Oh my goodness, oh boy, okay, well, I'm just going to stop, chef.
We're going to move on, continue to see that.
Nobody saw that, okay, my fault, chef.
What's this here you said are famous?
We have our spicy tuna roll here.
Oh, okay, can you handle that one, Ryan?
Oh, I think so.
Okay, all right.
It's good to go, can I try it?
Yes, of course, yeah, it's good to go.
Spicy tuna, my personal favorite, by the way.
I'll try it too.
Then we have the snow crab roll there.
Okay.
Okay.
And then we have from the Roma side, the Italian side,
here we have the beef tartare which is,
this is the result, we smoke it with rosemary table side under
this dome, so it's nice action.
Wait, there's another too.
Yes, and there is served with Kaluga caviar on the side,
and then we have our famous
oxtail ragu with mafalde pasta, okay,
slow cooked oxtail, black truffle,
I mean, what do you want more?
Oh, wait, wait.
What do you want more?
Nothing, nothing.
A good man.
And then we have in front, we have
Okay.
the risotto milanese served with a bone marrow and gremolata.
Look at that.
Yes.
We have this new fall dish,
which is cappellacci stuffed with porcini and portobello mushrooms
with a porcini cream sauce at the bottom and thyme.
Yes.
And then finally, we have the tuna carpaccio.
Pistachio and sun-dried tomato salsa.
Okay, give us an address.
Where are you located?
We are on 902 Broadway between 20 and 21st.
So come and you'll find me there.
All right, there you go.
And get his name right, Giovanni.
Tell him Crystal and Ryan sent you.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Chef G, thank you so much for your time.
Thank you so much.
This food has been unreal here tonight on Good Night New York.
We appreciate it.
Make sure you go check out Aqua Roma right here in New York City.
But for now, we got to eat all this food.
We do.
Sorry you can't be here to help us out for now.
I'm Ryan Christopher.
Crystal Young, please make it up.
Good night, New York!
We need more truffle.
More truffle.
