A Historic Night for Democrats: Pappas Breaks Barriers as Trump Faces Growing Voter Anger | News18

A major night for Democrats in the 2026 US midterm elections — with historic victories, a changing Senate and fresh questions about President Donald Trump's political standing.

In New Hampshire, Democrat Chris Pappas has defeated Republican John Sununu, becoming the first openly gay man elected to the United States Senate. His victory is a milestone for LGBTQ+ representation in American national politics and adds a historic dimension to an election already marked by significant Democratic gains.

Michigan has also remained in the spotlight, with progressive Democrat Abdul El-Sayed leading Republican Mike Rogers in a closely watched Senate contest. The race attracted national attention and became one of the key battlegrounds in the fight for control of the chamber. The latest results available to us showed El-Sayed ahead, with the outcome still awaiting confirmation.
