Everyone keeps asking why we don’t just slow AI down. Why not sign a global agreement, pace the frontier, and take some of the risk off the table? Well, in this video, we cover the math of it!

We cover the security dilemma, the spiral model, and why the AI race works like a prisoner’s dilemma. Then I compare it to the nuclear arms race and show why the Cold War playbook doesn’t carry over. AI is an all-pay contest with a huge prize. It has no clear way to verify or enforce limits, power can shift in months, open models put many players in the game, and labs compete inside each country. We also look at why Chinese labs open source their models, what Claude Mythos and Project Glasswing tell us, and the possible ways out: repeated games, GPU tracking, AI cyber defense, and a new view of the payoffs.

The big lesson: you don’t need villains to get a bad outcome. You need a better game. This video is part of my AI Fundamentals series. Tell me in the comments which way out you think is most realistic.
