The top of the ticket in Minnesota is the race for governor.
In fact, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar is the Democratic candidate.
She's facing off against Republican Lisa Demuth,
who is also the Speaker of the Minnesota House.
Now, this is a race that has two very distinct visions
for what they will do if elected tonight.
Corin Hoggard joins us now.
So, Corin, we can't lose sight of the fact that no matter
who voters choose tonight,
they will, in fact, make history.
That's right. You're going to have
the first female governor of Minnesota, whichever candidate
wins here. Pretty interesting here.
I'm going to try to give you kind of a peek behind the
curtain here, but let's start with the polling that we've seen.
And generally speaking, Amy
Klobuchar, after, you know, 20 years in the Senate,
she's very well known in the state
of Minnesota, hasn't lost, I mean,
hasn't won a race by less than 16% or so. And in
this race, polling shows her up by at least about 11%.
11 percentage points. That's not at all within the margin of error.
The just the question would be whether she beats her usual 16 plus
percentage points or not, or if Lisa Damoth pulls off an upset.
I can tell you, though, as you guys know very well from being there
in the studio and waiting for these vote counts to come in,
they're kind of anticipating that Hennepin and Ramsey County may come
in relatively late, which is something we have seen.
In the past, and that is where Democrats tend to be the strongest.
And so what they're doing
in the Klobuchar campaign is they're watching
to see what the rural counties come in and how strong
they look for Lisa Damuth.
I was just talking to one of Klobuchar's campaign members here and
they're like if it's a plus 30 Trump district
and it's coming in plus 10 for Lisa Damuth.
Before Ramsey and Hennepin even come in,
they may start to sense that they're going to win.
And we may hear from Senator Klobuchar before,
you know, we at Fox 9 even call this race.
And so that's kind of something that they're watching in this race.
It's not really expected to be one of the closer races.
But, you know, anything can happen on Election Day,
and we'll see what happens.
Yeah, and it's one of the races a lot of people are watching,
not just here in Minnesota.
All across the country, too.
Thank you, Corinne.
Well, the land of 10,000.
