Having a hard time getting the COVID-19 shot?

So essentially what's happening
is different pharmacies would imagine they're going to get the vaccines
because they've ordered them, they make the bookings,
but then they don't show up in time for when the patients come in.
Is that essentially what's going on here?
Yeah, you got it. And I think some of it might be because last year
we didn't have the COVID vaccine at the beginning of the season.
We saw in Alberta there's a 41% decline
in vaccine uptake versus the year previous.
This year, obviously, we're carrying the load.
Uh, three and four COVID doses this season,
uh, nine and 10, uh, for seniors are being
out of pharmacies.
So we're doing what we do best, but we need the supply.
Given this unpredictability right now with the vaccine supply,
who really is there a focus group that you really encourage
to get the COVID-19 vaccine right now?
Yeah, I mean, seniors are the main eligible group,
and that's been a change.
I mean, last year, there was also a cost barrier with the $100 fee.
This year, you know, the government's made a pragmatic approach to
to change that to be public access.
That seems to be working as you can see the uptake is
is on the upswing. There's also other patients that are eligible.
There are whether it could
be certain cases of mental health conditions,
diabetes, cardiovascular, if you're a teacher
or work in healthcare you're eligible.
So there's a long list I'd suggest you see the
pharmacist quite often you think you might have to pay
but quite often you're covered.
Yeah, that's good information for people to know.
And if they are seeking a COVID-19 vaccine,
what do you recommend people know
because of this fluctuating supply?
Yeah, I think sometimes if you're going to make
long treks of time, like my dad, who's an 80-year-old,
don't do it.
Call first or talk to your son.
Thank
And make sure you're not set for disappointment.
We're trying our best to ensure we're getting supply.
You know, we've been very resilient.
you
to vaccinate. I mean,
we've done 6.3 million COVID vaccines since its inception, right? So
very
we're the place to be. We'll take care of you.
Sometimes it might be a callback business. Like
I said, arranging with colleagues,
much.
we have good partnerships with our pharmacies in the area,
and we'll make sure we take care of you.
What would you like to see happen next
to ensure that these vaccines are available to Albertans?
Yeah, I mean, you know what? The doors are open.
We're still communicating with the government and been very receptive.
We're always about the future as opposed
to getting fixated on the past.
I think pharmacy is very good at supply chain and managing patients.
We've been successful in the past.
I think some autonomy, some good data anticipation
and making sure that we're just doing the right numbers
for the right amount of people and we're getting it on time.
