When 14-year-old Liam Herman saw the news about
the tragic fire at CFB Wainwright,
he knew he wanted to do something to support the families and victims.
So he grabbed his running shoes
and set off to walk 200 kilometers across Edmonton
with the goal of raising $7,000.
I thought he was very terrible,
so I decided to do something good, try and help out.
Herman is working with Support Our Troops,
a military-focused charity, to raise the funds.
At 3 a.m. Sunday, he started the journey,
making it nearly 50 kilometers that day.
He plans to walk after school each day until he reaches
that 200-kilometer mark.
If anybody sees me while I'm out walking,
make sure to honk or give me a wave or something.
Show some support and love.
It's amazing. It's incredible.
Like, totally, I can't believe how many people have been.
Just supporting, like every like, every share,
every donation, any cent, all of it adds up.
His mom Tammy says the whole family
is now working to help him reach that goal.
Oh, it melted my heart, completely.
It's not surprising for the kind of kid he is.
He goes above and beyond just to help anybody.
As of Tuesday morning, Herman has blown past his goal of $7,000,
raising nearly $12,000 so far.
