Ladies and gentlemen, we've had another large earthquake.
Overnight, we had a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Papua New Guinea,
where we have a bunch of plate boundaries.
Working to connect to each other.
He came in as an 8 on the DYFI.
Must be a populated area.
Came in as an 8 on the Shake Map.
There was an associated tsunami warning.
We'll take a look at the buoys.
And they have a default depth, it looks like, of 10 kilometers.
Now, there was just a few moments ago a decent-sized aftershock.
We've had an aftershock of a 5.1 right
on top of the large 6.3, some are calling it
a 6.4 magnitude earthquake.
All in all, we've had really three aftershocks here.
We just had the 5.1 moments ago.
Prior to that, we had a 5.0 and a 4.8,
and it's really not in Papua New Guinea proper.
That would be down here.
It's actually in parts of Indonesia.
I want you all to see that this plate boundary does not connect,
nor does this one, nor do these two.
And you can see this volcanic ridge coming through here as well.
So this is a very complicated area, geologically speaking.
Jumping over to volcanoesandearthquakes.com, we have our 6.4.
being called out by Indonesia here
as the primary source they have a depth of 38 kilometers we will
get some detailed information i will bring
y'all in and let y'all see there's actually no volcanoes
going off directly over this large quake
and this small swarm
so there's no volcanoes but there are a lot of plate boundaries
In black and blue, trying to connect.
The ones in red are solid plate boundaries.
Over to VolcanoDiscovery.com, a very strong magnitude 6.4 earthquake.
Here we are with our 6.4 again.
Taking a look at some earthquake details.
Again, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake confirmed
and manually revised.
That means downgraded.
It looks like we had a depth of 38 kilometers here
and it looks like it released about 3.8
atomic bombs worth of energy.
So it was a powerful earthquake and again the 6.4 was not Papua New
Guinea it was West Papua Indonesia.
All right comparing earthquake data
from different reporting
agencies.
Started off with Indonesia at 6.4, 38 kilometers,
followed by Raspberry Shake at 6.1, 10 kilometers of depth.
The Germans came in at 6.4 also,
moving towards that 6.4, 20 kilometers of depth.
We had the French come in at 6.14.
Let's see what else we have.
The Europeans at 6.3, 15 kilometers of depth.
The USGS, 6.3, 10-kilometer default depth.
And we had the Incorporated Research Institute
for Seismology come in at 6.3,
default depth 10 kilometers.
Australia coming in at 6.6.
What?
A 6.6.
Papua Indonesia, 14 kilometers of depth.
And it looks like finally we have the Italians.
Coming in at a 6.4 as well.
We're going with a 6.4.
Especially with Australia coming in at a 6.6.
Must have been much stronger than they're indicating.
We know it was manually downgraded.
Over to the National Data Buoy Center, we did see that.
Well, there was a tsunami warning there.
There are no buoys in event mode, so everything looks fine as far as...
Well, we have no tsunami.
Now, to summarize, even though the USGS is calling this a 6.3,
we see Germany calling it a 6.4.
We see Indonesia, who's on top of it, calling it a 6.4.
And we see Australia right there in the area calling it a 6.6.
So we're going to go with a 6.4 magnitude earthquake.
8 on the DYF, 8 on the ShakeMap,
tsunami warning at a default depth of 10 kilometers.
God bless you and yours, folks.
