San Jose Valkyries are WNBA champions after
that thrilling win at Ball Hall on Halloween night
and the official celebration that will be on Wednesday.
Looking forward to it.
The party begins in Oakland and will conclude
with a midday parade in San Francisco.
KTVU's Jana Katsuyama reports on the preparations now underway.
With the Golden State Valkyries historic WNBA championship win,
the Bay Area is ready to turn out in Valkyries Violet Wednesday
to celebrate the win. The players on Monday said they're excited.
I want it to be Halloween again, like come in the costumes.
I just want it to be a big party and just enjoy the moment.
Let's celebrate. Let's have some fun.
This is insane. I just want to feel
the same energy that we have in Valhalla.
I'm excited for my teammates to see what I kind of grew up around
and just experience that on a big level.
Hooray!
Ferry building. Wednesday, November 4th. Let's go.
The Valkyries, wanting to include the whole bay,
plan to depart from Oakland where they practice.
They'll ferry over to San Francisco for the big parade set for 12 noon.
It starts at the Ferry Building
and then proceeds down the Embarcadero to King Street near Oracle Park.
Streets will be closed and officials
are recommending people use public transportation.
The street closures will begin shortly after midnight
Wednesday morning, so that's how we're going to get prepared.
I think we're looking towards, for example,
really trying to accommodate the morning commute,
but we're still putting those final touches on it.
We're hoping to open the roads.
Before the evening commute on Wednesday,
we will be expanding our capacity for the parade.
That includes staging special event trains
that we will use on a case-by-case basis to help us
with traffic flow and to mitigate crowds.
And we will also extend the length of our trains.
San Francisco police say they'll
also have extra staffing to help make sure the crowds are safe.
We will have extra officers in and around the area. We will are.
We're going to be using our specialized units to ensure that the parade
route and the surrounding areas are as safe as possible.
The SFMTA has created a special Valkyries website
that shows all of the street closures as well as the reroutes
of Muni buses in the downtown area around the parade route.
And there are certainly expected
to be big crowds on Wednesday for the parade.
