Why Halifax is one of National Geographic's top 2027 destinations
Nov 3, 2026
Turns out, a lot of people agree with him,
including National Geographic.
Halifax made the media giant's list
of the world's best places to visit in 2027.
Something that really stood out to us about Halifax right now
is how many different stories come together there
that tell sort of the story of the heritage of Atlantic Canada.
But why do people think that Halifax deserves to be on this list?
I think Halifax deserves to be in that list and I'll tell you why.
First of all, there's an eagle right behind you flying
as we cross the harbour in the ferry.
Definitely it should be on that list. It's a great city.
Definitely, because it's a small city, but it has everything
and it's friendly and it's just a great place to visit.
And yes, Halifax is a great place to visit, but you better
have some money with you because you're going to need it.
There's a lot of vibrant places to visit.
So yeah, I'm not, yeah, I think it makes sense.
But what makes Nova Scotia's capital city so special?
It's the only Canadian city that made the cut.
They call it the center of Atlantic Canada's heritage revival.
And it seems Haligonians and tourists alike appreciate
the history National Geographic highlights.
And some of it's so new and some of it's
so old that that's something that where we where we live
in the United States you don't see as much.
Then the seaports, statues and also the museum. It's
a very long history. I didn't realize
when I moved here just how old it is so how much history is
attached to Halifax. I think that's
a really cool aspect that maybe people don't realize.
National Geographic invites visitors to tap
into that history on a bus tour through Africville,
or a stop at the Immigration Museum,
and a visit at the Mi'kmaq Native Friendship Centre when it opens.
Remember, this is a list for 2027, but there's lots to see before then.
Just walking along the waterfront, like there's not really many places
in Ontario to do that. No, yeah, so it's good.
It's good. Music, food.
Lobster, scallops, the boardwalk and the boats.
We checked out the art gallery.
I'm going to check out a few more art galleries
because I think the art scene is,
Uh...
it's nice to explore.
And then I'm going to Dartmouth because I heard that's
also quite a lovely little neighborhood.
And while neither of the photos included
on the list are of the city of Halifax,
we all know what really makes a place special.
I'm going to feel like years ago when like,
People are incredible here. I love it so much.
It's very heartwarming here.
I can believe we've been to 72 countries,
and there's no place like home.
Halifax is the place to be.
