On election eve, a steady stream of people are out,
dropping off their ballots before the big rush tomorrow morning.
This is the scene in Norwalk tonight.
And that is where Fox 11's Ed Laskos is live.
He's talking to voters. Ed.
Now, Laura, you're right about that.
Election Eve and a lot of folks trying to beat that perceived big crush
of everybody at the polls tomorrow waiting in line.
So they're trying to get a head start
and getting their ballots counted. Joe, the way we go into the story,
this has been steady all night long, I'll tell you, with cars lined up,
dropping their ballots into the big ballot box. And, of course,
before the voting center here, it closed at 7 o'clock tonight.
They were going inside and using the voting machines.
In any event, though, in the last, I'd say, about 15,
20 minutes, really, the cars have disappeared.
Late hour, as a lot of folks...
tried to beat that rush and certainly what we've
been seeing here the last several hours we've been
here at one of these very big very busy voting centers
is that the voting rush has been on
big time. Watch.
I'm on it!
Election Eve and the votes are coming in.
They are lined up, driving in to drop off their ballots.
Others walking up, stuffing the ballot box.
All of this here in Norwalk.
It's easy, it's convenient, and it's something we should all be doing.
It should be a holiday, but it's not. And how proud are you?
Look at it says I voted. How proud are you? Very proud.
They are all very happy carrying their ballots inside
to the voting machines here at the L.A. County Registrar's offices,
beating the rush that's coming in a few hours on Election Day itself.
Beat the rush tomorrow, or what do you think?
Definitely, and I've got to, well,
actually, I got off work earlier today,
so it was a good opportunity for me
to come down here and drop these off
before it gets crowded tomorrow.
Because otherwise you'd be long lines tomorrow, huh?
You didn't want to deal with the lines tomorrow?
No, it's easy this way, just come in and drop it off.
And as they cast their ballots,
they are casting their hopes along with it.
With so many big decisions resting on each and every vote.
There needs to be a difference, like our homeless system, our prices.
You can't afford anything anymore.
It's impossible to live here,
and we need to change that as soon as possible.
I had to focus and make sure I didn't make a mistake.
Like, you know, bye.
Right, because there's a lot of different possibilities.
Yes, yes, yes.
From here in L.A. County, stretching to the Inland Empire, look at it.
The voters, they're lining up,
they're on the move, all just to have their say.
Important? You bet it is.
We have a say and everybody has a say, so vote.
And the ones who don't vote?
Then don't nag, don't complain,
because you're not voting, you have to vote.
Now you are looking live at the registrar's office.
I'm thinking about that proverbial line of the quiet before the storm.
Tomorrow night at this very hour, this place will be jumping like crazy
because all the votes, all the ballots cast right through L.A. County
come here to be counted.
Car driving up here, there may be some folks also coming in
to drop off their ballot at the main ballot box here right in front.
But all the votes come here tomorrow.
They count them even from far off areas.
Like, I'm thinking the Antelope Valley,
Laura, you know, Palmdale, or Lancaster.
They use the L.A. County Sheriff's Department
helicopters to fly the ballots in here.
So this will be the nerve center of all
the tabulations that come tomorrow with the ballots.
But these folks, like the folks
who just pulled up here, getting ready to drop there.
He's getting over on the passenger side.
There goes the ballot.
