London walk , Fountain Alley, Battersea Park.
Assalamu`alaikum
The park was laid out by Sir James Pennethorne between 1846 and 1864, although the park which was opened in 1858 varied somewhat from Pennethorne's vision. The park's success depended on the successful completion of the Chelsea Bridge, declared open in 1858 by Queen Victoria.
Battersea Park is a 200-acre green space at Battersea in the London Borough of Wandsworth in London. It is situated on the south bank of the River Thames opposite . The park occupies marshland reclaimed from the Thames and land formerly used for market gardens.
This large fountain springs into action about once an hour. It was originally developed when Battersea Park hosted the Festival of Britain pleasure gardens in 1951, and was at the time far larger than it is now. They declined for many years, and eventually stopped working altogether, until Wandsworth Council restored them in 2000 (helped by a grant from the National Lottery). The 1950s styling, with bold blue and orange colours, is still evident. A small tea shop has recently been added in the same style next door.
