New at 11, dozens of people packed in Oakland Theater tonight
to catch the latest film produced by the Obama's film company.
Eyes of Ghana is a documentary with former President Barack Obama
and Michelle Obama listed as executive producers through
their company, Higher Ground.
That movie is playing a three-night run
at the Regal Jack London Cinema.
And it follows Chris Hesse, who was the personal cameraman
to Ghana's revolutionary first president, Kwame Nkrumah.
And as the now 90-year-old Hesse releases more than a thousand
preserved reels recorded during Ghana's liberation revolution.
The coup that ousted Khrushchev and so a lot of things were burned
and destroyed and so his films were safely secured in London
and so this story is about the restoration of those films
and the restoration of that story and the retelling of that story.
I'm grateful to have known that this, that it existed,
that it was in our community and that it's only been shown
for a short period of time and I'm hoping that it will be extended.
Now, there is still one more showing at the Regal Jack London
that is scheduled for tomorrow at 7 p.m.
