While Benson rallied supporters at the UAW Solidarity House, James focused on serving veterans in Detroit and outlining his policy priorities regarding education, business regulations, and utility costs.
All right, Amy, thank you.
The race for governor down to the wire ahead of election night.
Republican John James running against
Democrat Jocelyn Benson for the big seat.
Fox 2's Jamie Sherrod catching up
with the candidates ahead of the big day.
And I know some of them voted today.
That was a big deal today, Jamie.
Maybe.
It definitely was Ruth.
We are celebrating, if you will, election night eve.
Everyone coming out to either rally or vote. Right now we are waiting
for Jocelyn Benson to take the stage here at the UAW Solidarity House.
Take a look. A room full of people just waiting
to hear from her and to rally with her. Meanwhile,
Republican John James, he was at Volunteers of America in Detroit,
which is a place where they focus on transitional housing for veterans.
He was not expecting
Today did not want to focus on politics today instead he wanted to meet
and serve our local veterans take a listen to what he had
to say, I have a heart for veterans because I did serve and the mental health issues
the homelessness the addiction issues something
that's very near and dear to my heart
so regardless whether or not the cameras are rolling we have
an obligation to serve those who served us and before I become governor
and after I'm going to continue to do everything I can to protect
and help serve our veterans.
It's been a long time.
But again, tomorrow is a big day when Michiganders will decide
who their next governor will be.
Although James didn't want to talk politics,
he did have this to say about the race.
First thing I'm going to do is thank God,
kiss my wife, thank my kids, and then opt
into the Education Freedom Tax Credit.
We've really been underserving our children
with the lack of accountability we have in
the school system, the failing to bring mastery to our kids
and making sure they can not only
read before they get to fourth grade,
make sure they have a marketable skill by the time
they get to high school.
We also need to address affordability issues
by pulling back some of the harmful regulations
that are making it so difficult to run a business
and to live your life in Michigan.
I'm looking forward to to
Doing everything I can to bring our electricity bills,
holding the utility regulators accountable,
and making sure that I put people in Lansing in place
who recognize we're here to serve people
in the state of Michigan, not the other way around.
Again, we are waiting for Jocelyn Benson to take
the stage here at the UAW Solidarity House.
We will have that live for you tonight at 6.
Back to you, Ruth.
