Forty eight hours after a mass shooting near the University
of Delaware, six people shot ranging in age from 15 to 21 years old
and one of the victims,

This is the news at five. I'm Sheba Russell.
One of the people shot a 16 year old has been arrested.
Police say he had a loaded gun on him.
The university canceling classes today. They will
also be closed tomorrow, but that was already planned due to election.
And Kelly, you are back on East Main Street today.
You've been talking with students and people who work in the area.
Sheba, I have, and understandably, a lot of them are still shaken up
and want to know how and why this happened.
Police have not provided another update today,
but at last check they said all of the victims except one
continue to recover in the hospital,
including that UD student that was injured.
We'll be right back.
There were people on, like, every inch of the street,
on the sidewalks, everything.
It was just super chaotic.

the terrifying moments on Saturday night
when gunshots erupted on East Main Street near campus,
injuring six people, including a 20-year-old UD student.

but canceled classes to give students and staff time to process.
Lily Grossberg was working at Klondike Capes at the time,
across from where the shooting happened.
I just saw the police and everything,
and then I saw a body laying down and all of the cops surrounding it,
and I was just like, what is going on? I was so scared.
I think everyone's a little shooken up.
I mean, it's just like we're a college town.
We don't really expect these types of things to happen.
Newark police say it happened just before
11.15 Halloween night after a large gathering.
The victims range from 15 to 21 years old.
Police say a 16-year-old victim,
found with a loaded firearm, is facing weapons charges,

It definitely was a scary thing. I called my parents.
Friends, you know.
Students described crowds like they'd never seen before Saturday night
until Fox 29 there were posts on social media ahead of the weekend
about young people taking over East Main Street on Halloween night.
After the shooting, some of the conversation turned to racist
and hateful chatter on social media,
according to the university's Black Student Union.
The university's president responded saying there's
no place for this ever at UD.
I kind of questioned what's going to happen next year and maybe...
There's going to be more precautions, hopefully,
because it's just, it's not, it's not good.
And it was just people everywhere.
Gianmarco Morticelli, owner of Klondike Cades,
said they stopped letting people in around 10 p.m.
because of the crowds before the shooting.
He's hoping for some changes.
I personally feel things like
this are becoming like a trend on social media,
and the only way to kind of curb that kind of stuff will
be some type of curfew for these kind of big holidays.
That business owner was suggesting a curfew possibly for 18
and under after 8 p.m. again
on big holidays. Now, police say as they continue
their investigation, they are asking for the
public's help. If you have pictures
or video that capture the moments before, during, or even after
the shooting, they ask that you turn them in.
Sheba. I mean, there is some truth to what he
said, Kelly. If you look at Halloween night across the country,
there have been a number
of shootings and incidents,
and now we have the one here in our own backyard. All right, Kelly
Kelly Rule, thank you.
