James Kaufman, World News Report, today.
Total lunar eclipse for over 85% of Earth's population,
September 7th, 8th, 2025.
We're talking about just in a night or two.
Stargazers will be treated to a spectacular view
on the night of September 8th.
The Earth's inner shadow sweeps across its natural satellite,
triggering a blood moon.
Total Lunar Eclipse A total lunar eclipse occurs
when the Earth passes directly between the Moon
and the Sun during a full moon phase,
varying the ancient satellite in its colossal shadow.
Over seven billion people are expected
to have a line of sight of the Moon during the totality as the Sept.
7 eclipse unfolds.
While others will bear witness to lesser partial eclipse phases
or, in case of the
United States, will see nothing at all.
While over 85% of the world's population has
a chance to see a blood red moon, depending
on cloud cover, and a total lunar eclipse on September 7th and 8th,
some of us might
You might even see a blue band.
You can see a blue band in this picture taken right
before totality during our last blood-red moon.
If you'll recall, that was on March 13th, 14th, 2025.
A lunar eclipse can be seen by anyone
on the nighttime side of Earth that have clear skies.
For this eclipse, the nighttime side of the globe will include Asia,
Africa, Europe, and Australia.
North and South America will be the only daytime side of the planet
and will miss the entire event.
As you can see here,
over 85% of the world's population will see the event.
Those in the dark red here will see the totality of the event,
and the event lasts some period.
And as you can see, as you move further out,
you'll see less of the eclipse.
Again, no one in North
or South America will see any of what's going on.
Kind of scary, isn't it?
What else is really unique about this eclipse
is it's one of three complete blood red moons,
lunar eclipses, to happen in a 12-month period.
This is the second and the longest of the three lunar eclipses,
yes, in a period of
less than 12 months.
The first, as discussed, was March 13th, 14th,
2025, and the totality lasted for around one
hour and five minutes.
Of course, this is going to be the second,
September 7th and 8th, and the third will
be on March 2nd and 3rd, 2026.
And the totality lasts for around 58 minutes.
The totality of this, the longest blood red total
eclipse, should be around an hour and 22 minutes.
I did mention that some will see blue in the moon.
Sometimes this is referred to as the turquoise band.
This blue color comes from sunlight passing through
the ozone layer in Earth's upper atmosphere.
The best time to spot the blue bands tends to be right before totality.
From the edge of Earth's dark reddish umbrella,
shadow meets the thin slivery crescent, brightest part of the moon.
Talk about signs in the heavens.
And here we are at the planets today.
I've moved it to the 7th and 8th here, as you can see.
The moon gets directly behind Earth
when it flips by Earth from the sun.
This could be another situation where we'll have an uptick
in solar activity, an earthquake activity, and volcanic activity.
Most geologists are thinking by next year we'll have twice
as many volcanoes going off as we do this year.
That is scary.
Now, of course, you also see Earth has
a geomagnetic connection to Pluto, Sirius, Saturn,
Neptune, and Eris at this time on the 7th and 8th.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's a bit odd that North America,
or any of the Americas for
that matter, aren't going to see anything
while the rest of the entire world is able
to witness this event.
