Canada's Mathieu Pelletier collects 1st career individual World Tour medal
Nov 1, 2026
First head-to-head battle between the skaters in the first
and second place in the Crystal
Globe standings, head-to-head,
coming up right now with Van Aertvoort, who's sailed already
with a couple of medals this weekend.
Mathieu Pelletier, what did that young man bring?
To the start.
Ready.
Van Aertvoort, as always, just throws down the gauntlet early.
Well, in the last two rounds of the 1,000-meter,
we've seen Jens Van Atteveldt go out to the lead immediately
and just progress the pace,
push the speed so high to fatigue the legs of all his competitors,
and no one's had an answer yet.
Is Felix Drussel the one today who can respond to the challenge?
But Jens Van Atteveldt really looks unbeatable as Pelletier makes a move.
Pelletier going for it, the young man.
What kind of response that provokes.
Shindong Min into third.
Roussel trying to respond immediately and does.
Back up into third.
It really looks like Roussel is wanting
to hold whatever position it is behind Jens Van Atteveldt.
And Van Atteveldt losing some speed.
Going back up into Pelletier.
They're already coming up to see three to go.
Is this the moment for Mathieu Pelletier?
There's a bit of a gap.
Van Atteveldt getting back up to speed.
A little bit of a stumble for Roussel on that exit.
And there goes Roussel van het Voudt for the lead.
Shindong Min taking a look at third.
One to go.
He's already got four gold medals
on the season as Nibinsky goes into third.
But it is going to be a fantastic fifth for Jens van het Voudt.
Form of his life
so far this season.
Gold number five.
And just about unbeatable in the 1,000.
Pelletier, an impressive silver medal.
First individual senior level medal for him.
And then welcome back to the podium, Michal Nivinsky.
Celebrations over there with his Hussars teammate.
Yes, last year was a struggle.
But this year, he has shown he is just about back and maybe he is now.
How do you stop Jens van der Voudt right now?
He's got it all. He has the passing,
he's got the speed, he's got the endurance.
He's got every tool in the toolbox that you need to win.
Michal Nivinsky with a terrific performance,
you know, just waiting patiently.
Back in position number five.
Shin Dong Min was looking for the look upside
on the inside of Felix Roussel.
There was a look from Jens van der Voudt,
but just not timed at that moment.
Pass, and Shin Dong-min up the inside of Roussel,
that opens the door for Michal Nivinsky,
who just jumps all over it, tucks it tightly into third.
Nivinsky, I mean, you just look at his helmet, number 33,
that was where he was, essentially, in the Crystal Globe standings,
indicative that it wasn't a fantastic season for him last year,
but here he is, back to the podium.
