Newfoundland Regiment hockey club part of the family business for the Dwyers
Nov 1, 2026
It's special. It's obviously special for our family to be able
to share this time and share this opportunity together.
And, you know, obviously coming to Newfoundland was something
that was a great opportunity and we all recognize that.
But to have the opportunity to work with my boys,
to have them involved with it is something that's really special.
And for you two, how big of a role did
hockey play in your life growing up?
Yeah, I mean, growing up, hockey was kind of,
you know, it was always at the forefront of our lives.
It was a big thing, you know.
Dad, coach, we all grew up playing, and it's kind of just everything
that we've always known, and it really shaped us.
Yeah, I think just growing up around the rink, obviously,
we want to play hockey, so it's pretty cool to have that,
and just something that they always do. So, yeah, all three of us,
me, him, and my younger brother all play hockey growing up,
so it was always something to do.
And what's it like to have your dad
as a coach on your team at this level?
I like it, yeah.
It's obviously pretty rare to have that,
so I think it's pretty cool to get to share that experience,
you know, playing junior hockey and having your dad as a coach.
I don't think, you know, junior hockey, you only play for four years,
so to be able to share that time with my dad is pretty special.
Jack, what's it like for you to be working on the team
and, you know, having that family connection?
Does it change the way you approach work and make it more special?
I mean, yeah, it's definitely like a really cool experience. It's like,
as Ryan said, it's like a short window that we get to do this.
So it's really cool that we get to do it together.
And, you know, growing up, we were all kind of in different places.
He was away at prep school. I went away for hockey.
Dad was always away coaching. So it's really cool that,
you know, we're all we're all passionate about it.
So it's really cool that we get to do this together.
And it's definitely special.
What's it like for each of you to have that built-in support
of your real family as part of the team as well?
How's that with you, Gordie?
Yeah, well, it's everything, really.
You know, you look at the contributions from the boys,
from their perspective,
and how they play a part in this opportunity.
And then, you know, with my wife and their mom, Louise,
and she's been a big support right from the start in their minor hockey
and then growing up as well.
Well, and just being...
Being able to take full advantage of this opportunity, you know,
the maturity level that it takes to be a member of this hockey team
and to represent this organization with pride, I think that, you know,
it's a reflection on Louise and on myself and on the three boys,
including Sean, who's not here.
Your teammates are your family,
but it's really cool to have your actual family here, too,
because it's, you know, the sport's, you know, the sport's important.
Like, we've all experienced doing it on our own.
And, you know, some days aren't always easy, so it's, you know,
it's really cool when you get to come to the rink and,
you know, see people that are important to you, so.
And, Gordy, are you proud to have your boys on the team there with you?
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. And the boys, the boys talked about it.
It's pretty rare to have this opportunity,
so we recognize that. We recognize how.
You know, how much of a privilege it is to be able
to share this experience together and as a family.
So it's it's something that we take that we don't take lightly.
We have a huge responsibility here, like I said,
in driving the performance of the hockey team.
And Ryan plays a big part of that with
his performance on the ice with our team.
And Jack does a big part of that as well with with working
in hockey ops and a big part of our scouting staff.
So it's, you know, to be able to share this experience.
You know in this business is something that we recognize.
We all recognize that it's special
and because of that we obviously put our best foot forward.
I played hockey for a while growing up but I never really had Gordy
as a coach so it's pretty cool to be able to share it now.
Definitely my favorite part.
Yeah, I mean, I'd just say it's that, you know,
we all share the same passion, right?
We're all passionate about it,
and when you all care about something, you know,
at a deep level like that, it's really cool, and it elevates it.
And, you know, it's awesome to do it here in Newfoundland.
It's a special place, so it's a real privilege.
We're all happy to be part of the regiment,
and it's great to be able to share it all together.
Great. Thank you so much.
Thank you, Madison. Thank you.
