I work at AFTV. I've got Robbie with me after
a 2-0 win against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.
We spoke about 12.30 kick-offs before.
We spoke about 8pm kick-offs before.
Rain, rain, rain and Arsenal still get the job done.
It's a very comfortable win today.
Yeah, yeah.
12.30 kick-offs, by the way.
Not for, you know, we saw the city earlier on.
Not for everyone.
Yeah, yeah.
We're coming for those cheats as well.
I'm telling you that, right?
We're coming.
We're breathing down their neck now.
But, yeah, listen, I thought today was a very, very good performance.
You know what I mean?
You're up against Everton.
They're a good side.
You know, the conditions are horrible.
It was horrible years and years ago.
These were the type of games we were scared of.
We'd come to the Emirates and we'd be like,
who have we got? Everton.
Thank you.
Big lumps like O'Brien and Tarkovsky
and Pickford in goal with lots of long balls,
swirling, horrible wind.
Nah, man, this is not the type of game
we'd be looking forward to.
But things have changed.
We've also got big physical guys.
We're not scared, I thought it was very brave of Arsenal today in that,
you know, you could quite easily say to yourself,
let's take a load of short corners because they've got
so much height in there, but we didn't.
We still get whipping that ball in there, we still get, you know,
putting in some excellent deliveries and we got the reward for it.
We missed out today, yeah.
Yeah, and I thought the two centre-backs today
were absolutely incredible.
Whether it was...
Going forward, you know, I mean, obviously both of them got goals,
but also at the back, they're defending, you know, I mean,
you have the ability with them to literally send everybody forward
and leave them one on one with virtually every attacker,
probably apart from Haaland in this league.
And they will mark you out of the game because, you know,
Tino Barry, he may not be the sort of best finisher in this league,
but he's a handful. He's a handful and he got absolutely no joy today.
You know, that's what those two are so good at.
And they were absolutely amazing today.
And it was a good team performance.
I don't think you can look at anybody
today and say they had a bad game.
That was a really good, solid team performance.
An entertaining game as well.
It was a very entertaining game.
I was very impressed with Arsenal today.
It felt refreshing off the back of the Bayern Munich win.
Sorry, draw.
The energy felt like...
I keep saying that.
I keep doing that as well, saying Bayern Munich win.
It's a draw.
The energy from that
carried on to today's performance.
You were quite consistent
with your score.
You said 2-0
and it felt like
everyone kind of went with 2-0
but when you saw the 11
before the game,
did you stick with that score?
I stuck with that.
You went different today.
I stuck with that.
You know what I mean?
That's a real compliment as well
to the fact that
we've got such a good squad.
Look how many changes
we made today.
I thought,
Lewis Skelly comes in
at left back.
Excellent.
At right back,
Ben White.
Brilliant.
Great assist for the goal.
You know what I mean?
Marino was good in midfield
and then if you're
If you're, you know, Joao Caldas was good up front as well.
I thought he played very well.
And if you're Everton, and then on whatever minute it was,
you start to see players like Bruno Guimaraes, Zubimendi,
you know, Kai Havertz, Calafiori, these players coming in.
Those players would start for practically every team in Europe.
And they're coming on as subs.
You've got a long day.
You've got a long day ahead of you.
We've got a really, really good squad at the moment.
And to win this league.
And to go far in Champions Leagues and that, that's what you need.
And that's what we, we had a really tough
game during the week away in Bayern.
We've been able to make so many changes, but there wasn't a drop.
It was still a team which we all looked
at before the game and we're like,
yo, that team's supposed to win this game.
So that's good.
When you saw the set-piece goal going, do you feel, do you feel nice?
I feel good, man.
Yo, I ain't seen a set-piece for so long.
That's our first set-piece goal this season.
I was like, yo, I was starting to worry
that we'd never scored from a set-piece.
We did it, man.
So, yeah, it was great to see, man.
And I was so happy to see Gabriel score.
I think he's been one of the best signings so far this summer.
You know what I mean?
I said it last week.
When everybody looks at the glamour signings,
you know, he went right under the radar.
Even when we signed him, nobody was really talking about him.
As a matter of fact, people were like, why are we buying him?
We don't need him.
Get this, get that, get…
We've needed him.
We've needed him.
We've had no Saliba.
Who is a world-class centre-back, and we have not missed it.
We have not missed William Saliba.
That is crazy.
I remember a few years ago,
that was literally the end of our league hopes when Saliba went.
In the Europa League, yeah.
Right?
And this guy has played for...
And Lee said it as well.
He hasn't had a pre-season with Arsenal.
And that partnership between him and Gabriel...
Currently, probably the best centre-back partnership in the league.
Well, it almost broke down when Gabriel went down.
And I don't know how much...
Yeah, we were worried.
We were all worried, man.
Because again, what worried me
is he extended himself to make that clearance.
And I'm like, is that another sort of injury similar to the Saka one?
But thankfully, the guy's a warrior, isn't he?
Yeah, he got up and started screaming.
He got up and started running around.
Trust me, that guy, he's a warrior.
You want players like that in your corner.
You know what?
Arsenal's got so many leaders on that pitch right now.
They've got so many players that set the standard for other players.
You can't play next to Gabriel and not put it in.
You can't play...
Next to Martin Odegaard and not put it in.
You can't play next to a Declan Rice and not put it in.
You know what I mean?
That's the thing.
They've got these players that set very, very high standards.
Saka's another one.
So you can't be playing with them players and say to yourself,
I'm going to put in a half performance today.
Like you said, they'll call you out.
So it bodes well.
Defenders scoring the goals and also giving a clean sheet.
Is that a good thing or a concern?
Very good thing.
Very good because the forward players played well.
So it weren't like the forward players didn't play well today.
They played well.
They didn't score, but I think it's a very good thing.
When your centre-backs now are going to get goals for you as well.
You want goals from all over the pitch.
The centre-backs have done a lot.
The defenders have done a lot.
You can't rely on one man.
No, that's true.
You can't rely on one man.
You know what I mean?
City kind of do with Haaland a little piece.
Yeah, but what if he got injured?
You know what I mean?
So you can't rely.
You need goals from everywhere.
And what if he's having a bad day?
I know Haaland's a phenomenal player, but he can have a bad day.
So you need goals from everywhere.
And I think it's absolutely perfect when you've got...
centre-backs and, you know,
maybe Raya chips in with a goal next week.
I don't know.
You might see that.
To finish the sentence,
without Bukayo Saka, Arsenal are?
Listen, we're not as good
because, you know, he's a big miss,
but we've got a great squad.
And I think what we can do
is we can cover for him.
We can cover for him by doing different things.
But he's a great player.
Let's not forget that.
He's going to be a big miss.
And we've got big, big games coming up,
but we've got a great squad, right?
And now is an opportunity
For Noni Madueke, for Max Dalman,
for Eberechi Eze, for all these guys, it's your time.
When a player is missing, this is your opportunity.
And if you want to find out about that, look at Ezri Konsa.
Saliba's out, but we're not missing him
because that guy has stepped up and he has seized his opportunity.
And when Saliba comes back, there's an argument to say, hey, hold on.
Do you just come straight back in?
So you bypass Mosquera.
You don't even consider him now
as a competition in that position as well.
You just say,
it's Saliba or Konsa.
To be fair to Mosquera,
in the past,
he started the season very, very well.
He started and probably
would have still been playing
had he not got injured.
But that's what happens
when you play for a top side.
You know, I mean, that's why you see a player go down injured
and it's not just the injury.
They're thinking, bloody hell,
when am I going to get back in this team?
So that's Gabriel today.
Then he went down and said, no, I can't come out.
This is the thing.
Like opportunities arise for players.
You know, sometimes, I mean, a lot of players, Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Would not have got an opportunity probably
to be playing at this level for Arsenal
had it not been for a couple of injuries.
So when you get those opportunities, you have to seize them.
And that's why I love that kid because he seizes opportunities.
Now it's Max's time.
Now it's Max's time.
Can you seize it?
Now it's Madueke.
Can you seize it?
Eze, all of these guys, you've got a chance now to get a run of games.
And keep the shirt.
And keep that shirt.
So let's see how they get on.
