How are you? Are you packed and ready?
For many residents in Oleshky, this moment has been a long time coming.
For those travelling to Ukraine,
we will tell you which buses are which.
We will be taking everyone.
The Russian-occupied Ukrainian city has been besieged for months.
On the front line and cut off from basic services,
people were beginning to starve without regular access
to food, water and electricity.
Now, a temporary truce in the Kherson region
is enabling humanitarian aid to enter
and for willing residents to evacuate to either territory.
We are very hungry.
Some are asking if this is a one-time thing
or if it will happen once a week.
Dmitry and I are working on arranging regular assistance.
It is also a first of its kind for the war,
with Russian and Ukrainian authorities working together on the mission.
A large convoy has been organized,
consisting of 25 buses, providing a minimum of 750 seats.
Secondly, special buses have been arranged
for bedridden people, if needed.
The bus is for people who are lying down.
This is the first time since 2022 that a ceasefire has
been established along such a large section
of the actual front line and has lasted for such a long period of time.
But over time, he keeps it up.
The localised ceasefire went into effect on Tuesday after it
was announced last week by US First Lady
Melania Trump and came after weeks of reports
that residents were regularly risking their lives
to seek aid. Oleshky is separated from Kherson by the Dnipro River
and the only way to reach
neighbouring towns was to travel by foot
or bike on routes riddled with mines. Before evacuations
could take place, Russian media released
this footage purporting to show military units
It's clearing the roads.
The truce is expected to be in force until this Sunday.
