Hey everybody it's Deja with Knit
and Crochet Ever After and today we are making this
garter look stitch pattern crochet whatever.
This looks like knit garter stitch but it is crochet.
So I have the pattern down below
I am going to show you how to make this,
with the hook
and then I'm going to tell you what I really think
and yarn that I'm using in the video.
about it, because it's going to get real.
So if you want to see what I think about this,
because you can kind of guess by my tone of
voice I'm not too happy with it, keep on watching.
But yeah, go download the pattern.
Be sure to like and subscribe
if you want some hot takes on stitch patterns.
But let's go get started.
Okay, so to begin our garter look stitch,
we're going to chain any multiple.
Whatever you want it to be so I did 13 chains.
This is all pretty much working
into back loops
and front loops doing slip stitches so
It will be an easy pattern, but time-consuming, so be ready.
So the first thing we're going to do,
we're going to begin in our second chain from our
hook in our back loop,
so that we need to do on purpose for our foundation chain, we're
working it at back loop, and we're doing a slip stitch.
So when you're slip stitching,
and it's part of the pattern, and it's like not fastening
You're listening off things.
You want to make it.
fairly loose otherwise you will hate life
when you have to work into it on the next row
so just kind of be very loose
and gentle with it make sure it's spanning the entire
previous stitch as you're working it
but we're just working in these back loops only
and as i insert my hook
and pull up the loop i kind of pull it out before i pull it through
So that's kind of how I get that slack that I want
so that it's not super tight because if I made this really tight
I would not be able to get into my next row.
So we're going to continue this across and then we'll come back
for row two, which is similar but slightly different.
Okay, last slip stitch of row one.
And then I'm ready for row two.
So this is going to be important to know how to read your stitches.
When I'm looking at this, I already have kind of a garter look.
You can see those little ridges
there. It looks like the purl bumps of a garter.
But we need to work into the correct loop to keep
it going like that. So as we were working those slip stitches,
this is the top of my stitch now.
And you can see it's nowhere to be seen when I turn it this way.
So when I turn, that's still not the top of my stitch.
There is the top of my stitch.
So the top of my stitch is actually kind of like
this back loop looking of this mess right here.
So that's very important to know so that we know where to work
our next stitch because this row and every row after
we're going to be working into the front loop only
so we're not pulling this one
because that's not part of it we have to go
look up here and here's our two v's of the top of our stitch
and this is our front loop
so we're going to work right into that first one
And pull, oops, and pull right off your hook, and slip stitch through.
Remember, keep it loose.
You'll get to know where that stitch is as you're going,
but make sure that you're looking.
If you're having trouble seeing it, turn
your stitches. Okay, there it is.
Pull through nice and loose and continue that
across.
And we'll come back and look at how it looks before row three
so you can see if it changes
any and how to work into that row.
So let's keep going and we'll come back for row three.
Okay, I'm at the end of row two.
Make sure you get that last stitch, otherwise you're going
to start decreasing, so make sure you're either counting as you go,
or if you're not used to, like, being able to read the stitches
to know that you still have one more to go, count the stitches.
You'll also notice, like, what row am I on?
I don't know, it just looks like a bunch of purl,
you know, garter stitches. So you definitely
Absolutely.
You need to keep track. Write down how many rows you're doing because
this is not a normal kind of stitch pattern where you can be like,
oh yeah, it's this many for that many rows.
It's going to be difficult. So this is not a pattern.
It's a super, super simple pattern, but there's a couple things.
One, it takes forever because all you're doing is slip stitches.
So I'm on row three and you can see I barely made any progress.
You know, two, you've got to pay attention to where your loops are,
because if you work in the wrong spot,
you're going to throw off the way that the pattern looks.
So again, we're turning. We're looking for those stitches we just made.
So here's our front loop. So we're working into that front loop again.
This is all that you're doing but it's super tedious
so you either want to kind of stick with
a small project with this stitch pattern
or you know commit you're going to make a blanket with
this you are going to be doing a lot of slip stitches
so it's really a cool looking pattern.
It looks very much like a knit garter stitch but
It is very tedious,
so I'm going to go and do some more rows off camera and then come
back so you can kind of see a bigger picture of what it looks like.
Okay, I did a few more rows. Just kidding, I did a lot more rows.
And I have a few comments on this stitch pattern. One, I don't like it.
It's super simple. That part's great. But look at my gauge.
I did this like in two minutes. Not really two minutes. Just kidding.
Um, but...
I was getting so annoyed with the little progress I was making,
my gauge got tighter and tighter,
so you can see it's like scrunching up at the top.
So it is like I did real nice and loose
down here when I was talking to you guys,
then I was like, get this done, and it got real tight.
So that's one thing to really consider
also if you're going to use this stitch pattern,
is that you need to take your time and make sure your gauge is good,
As you go, because tightening up those slip stitches,
you just shrink in your project.
So one thing to note the other.
Yeah, it took forever.
This is not that many.
This is a lot of rows and not that much project.
Project, progress, both.
It's just not a lot.
So it will really take a long time.
Like make a beanie with this or something if you like it.
If you like the stitch pattern and want that knit look,
make it something small.
So those are my tips on this.
Super easy stitch pattern, great reversible fabric,
not so fun to actually do.
Well, whatever.
