Governor of Alaska ordering a state investigation
as a report of a plan to confuse voters has shaken
up Alaska's U.S. Senate race.
Republican Senator Dan Sullivan is seeking another term. Democrat
Mary Peltola is her main challenger,
but a second independent candidate also named Ann Sullivan
is running for the seat as well. The New York Times reports.
Peltola's campaign and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
were both involved in the
effort to recruit Sullivan in order
to create confusion among Republican voters.
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee,
as well as Peltola herself, have refused those
accusations, refuted them.
Peltola is calling the story a big distraction.
This is all stuff to sell newspapers.
This is all stuff to get subscriptions. Nobody
at the New York Times cares about affordability in Alaska.
The candidate I'm running against had a scheme
for over a year to try to trick Alaskans.
That shows total contempt for the people of the state of Alaska.
The state investigation is looking
at whether any laws have been broken.
The president calling for Peltola to be removed from the ballot
and face prosecution.
Political analysts say that is not very likely.
I'm going to be really,
really surprised if they can find a reason other than whether
somebody lied officially on paperwork or whatever,
that they can somehow declare this an illegal
opportunity by a candidate who was recruited to run
who happened to have the same name.
So it's certainly not going to upset
the election before Election Day, I can tell you that.
Several grand jury subpoenas are expected in the coming days.
Well, a lot of jittery nerves out on Wall Street on this Friday.
Intel is on pace for its worst day in more than 50 years due
to disappointing earnings reports.
The company, WLDA, rang the opening bell
on the New York Stock Exchange about an hour ago.
The letter stamped for the world leaders in data and AI.
The company is celebrating the completion of its annual summit.
Let's take a look at the big board.
The Dow taking a big hit, down some 240 points.
Shares of Intel are down nearly 30% this morning,
wiping out more than $100 billion in market value.
And by the way, the NASDAQ down over 600 points at this time.
New government data from the Commerce
Department shows inflation is still rising,
up 0.5% since September and up more than 3% since last year.
Also, the data shows the economy is growing
with consumer spending holding steady.
But economists say many Americans are struggling
to keep up with high prices and maybe even
dipping into savings to pay bills.
The economy is growing, which is phenomenal.
Like, that's what we all want.
But at the end of the day, the consumers, voters, they can't spend GDP.
All they really care about is whether
or not they have money left in their checking account
at the end of the month.
A monthly inflation report comes just one day after
the Fed took no action on interest rates
earlier in the week.
It's possible that a rate hike could come as early as December.
