Their Offer Just Leaked...
Oct 31, 2026
More than just a first round pick,
that's the price Shams Charania just revealed for Kyrie Irving.
Shams said it on the Pat McAfee show,
Miami is currently monitoring Kyrie Irving,
but Shams believes Miami only has one
first round pick that it's able to trade.
And his answer on whether
or not that's going to be enough is probably not.
I think the price will be higher than that.
That's of course because the Miami Heat
already sent out three first round picks
and a swap to get Giannis Antetokounmpo
Especially where the Heat have been really struggling
to start off this season, they
are desperate to make one of these moves,
but this is the news the Heat do not want to hear.
Even after the Raptors big blockbuster trade they made themselves
for Kawhi Leonard this summer,
they still have two picks eligible to be traded.
And for all the talk about the center position,
another constant narrative I see amongst Raptors fans
is their need for another guard,
or at least someone more reliable than Immanuel Quickley.
That's especially boosted by Jamal Shead
only averaging 6 points per game,
looked a lot better against the Orlando Magic and said himself
he's an offensive liability
when he's not looking for his shots, but the Raptors
So the price has been leaked by Shams,
and the picks are out there for the Toronto Raptors,
and the need is real. This is something we've discussed
on multiple videos on this channel.
But the season has been evolving,
and new reports and new rumors have been dropping across the NBA,
and while Kyrie Irving is certainly one
of the biggest, most flashy names
available for the Toronto Raptors and linked in different areas,
Probably not the guy I directly call about.
I went through every guard that's
been basically put on the trade market this week,
and there are some interesting names.
By the end of this video, I'll show you the deal that...
I'd take a closer look at making rather than a Kyrie Irving trade
and what the price is going to
be. But let's start off with Kyrie Irving
because of course the rumors have really circulated around
him over the past few months in regards
to the Toronto Raptors trying to upgrade the guard
position. It starts because of the guy
who picks up the phone out there in Dallas. That is Masai
Ujiri, former president of the Toronto Raptors.
Dallas hired Masai Ujiri as president back in May
and Brian Windhorst reports he's made it clear.
Dallas wants to keep Kyrie along with Cooper Flagg,
but teams around the NBA are not buying it.
Rival front offices question whether Dallas can stick to it,
as Tim McMahon says if Dallas
ever makes him available, he'd have a robust trade market.
So this is a classic play by Masai Ujiri.
Masai Ujiri is giving up no leverage out there
in the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes.
The Mavericks do not have to sell,
and if you want Kyrie Irving, you have to pay Masai Ujiri's
price. And to be fair, Kyrie Irving is definitely worth the call.
He tore his ACL back in March of
2025 and missed all of last season.
And he hasn't been setting the world on fire since his return
in the first four games of the season.
He's averaging about 18 points a game and only 27
minutes per night. But he has shown some flashes
of the old Kyrie Irving. Against Indiana, had 24
24 points and 5 threes.
In last night's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder,
who were undefeated but are dealing with
just a multitude of injuries right now,
he was a plus 25 when he was out there on the court.
But regardless of all that,
it would be a mess to try to trade for Kyrie Irving. The Raptors are
hard capped right now as we brought up in many videos
because of the Kawhi Leonard trade. Their
number for the apron this season is $208.1 million
and the hard limit is $209 million.
So that leaves just over $900,000 for the Toronto Raptors
to be able to squeeze under that $1
million apron. And Kyrie Irving makes $39.5 million a season.
So just to take his contract,
the Raptors would have to send out at least $38.5 million in salary.
So of course, if you're
trading for Kyrie Irving, Immanuel Quickley's $32.5
million contract would likely be on the way out,
plus $6 million more.
Like Jacoby Walter and Jameson Battle,
which again, is just a price that would be a hard
pill to swallow for the Raptors.
And then given the asking price,
you'd have to throw in draft picks as well, and more
than one first if Shams Charania is right.
And the Raptors only have two that they're able to trade.
So picture it.
Immanuel Quickley plus a young player
that's actually valuable for the Toronto Raptors,
I mean, I'd try to find a different guy
than Jacoby Walter to make this deal work,
but also those two picks
and for a guard that turns 35 out there in March. And on top of it,
he has a $42.4 million player option next season,
and he can decide to not play in Toronto,
and if he does, he's still getting paid a boatload of money. For me,
It's not really close in terms of this decision,
especially at that asking price you don't spend
your last two firsts and you're starting point guard
on a hard cap team for one dude that has
an injury history that is also pretty old.
I know we're all in right now on the Kawhi Leonard trade
and all these things, but this is still a move I'm staying away from.
But there is one guy I'd definitely make
a call on given the recent reports and rumors,
and he's in Memphis, and he's currently outscoring Kyrie Irving
by almost 12 points a night.
His name is Ty Jerome.
If you haven't been watching Memphis
so far this season, I don't blame you,
especially with their expectations coming into the year.
This stat is going to sound fake.
On opening night, he put in 45 points against the Utah Jazz,
which was a career high and a
Memphis record for a season opener, passing Ja Morant's 44.
Then he had 28 points against
Golden State, and then 31 points against Sacramento.
Over his first three games,
he scored more than 100 points,
shooting over 55% from the field and over 40% from three.
According to Basketball Reference,
he is one of six players since the three-point line arrived
He arrived in 1979 to open a season at that level.
And this isn't just empty scoring out there on a bad team.
Through three games, he scored 1.3
points every time he ran a pick and roll,
up from 1.03 points in the 24-25 season.
And of course, this pace, this ridiculous
amount of buckets he's getting,
is unsustainable over the course of an 82 game season.
I'm not saying you're getting
a superstar out there on the cheap
or something like that by picking up Ty Jerome.
But it gives you an indication in terms
of how he is getting his points.
The NBA named him the Western Conference Player of the Week,
and a team that everyone thought would
be tanking this year in the Memphis Grizzlies
are 3-0 to start off the season.
In late and close games, he's playing very, very well as well.
He has 15 clutch points already, and through Tuesday's games,
only Jason Tatum, Anthony Edwards, and Luka Doncic had more.
His most improved player odds have jumped significantly.
He was from 20 to 1 in terms of the odds, now to 4 to 1.
So he's the current favorite here now at this point.
Even Josh Bloomberg, who covers the Toronto Raptors,
came out and joked, said that Ty Jerome may have
already won it after one week into the season.
Now here's why this matters for Toronto,
because the Memphis Grizzlies are rebuilding.
They traded Ja Morant to Portland this summer
and Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah in February.
Insider Mark Stein has reported Ty Jerome
is bound to draw trade calls before this year's
trade deadline because Memphis is focused
on building around their young trio of Cam Boozer,
Zach Edey, and Cedric Coward. Think about it from Memphis' side.
They're looking at Ty Jerome,
who's 29 years old, on the best start of his career.
He may never be worth more than he is
right now. And contract-wise, the man is cheap.
He's only making $9.2 million this season with
With a $9.7 million player option for next year.
One report already came out saying
the Denver Nuggets are interested in making a move
if Memphis is willing to listen.
So that price is only going to go up.
But Memphis also has something the Toronto Raptors need,
and it's making this deal,
even though it might be a flash in the pan for Ty Jerome,
this deal more appetizing.
Memphis Grizzlies have a place to dock the Jakob Poeltl contract.
Poeltl played 10 minutes against the Orlando Magic last night,
his fewest of the season.
His contract is about to get heavier.
He's making $19.5 million this year and then $27.3 million next season.
After the season, that's $84 million still
on the books for the Toronto Raptors that goes through
2030. The one thing should be noted,
the final year, only $5 million of that contract is
guaranteed. And this is what makes a trade with Memphis
so appetizing. Back in February,
Brett Siegel reported Memphis had emerged
as a potential suitor for Jakob Poeltl.
And when Memphis traded Jaren Jackson Jr.,
it got a $28.9 million trade exception.
Bobby Marks calls it the largest in NBA history.
That trade exception is still open,
and Poeltl's $19.5 million fits right inside it.
But that exception runs out on February 3rd.
That's 97 days from now, eight days before the trade deadline.
So here's an idea.
Poeltl goes to Memphis into that trade exception.
Ty Jerome comes to Toronto,
and Memphis gets a first-round pick for its trouble.
Toronto sends out $19.5 million and takes back $9.2 million,
and that's about $10 million of
extra room under the hard cap.
Right now, they only have about a million to play with.
There is a 15% trade bonus in Ty Jerome's deal,
so he'll count for $10.6 million,
not $9.2, but that still fits very easily.
And Memphis gets what a rebuilding team wants,
a first-round pick for a 29-year-old who doesn't fit their young core.
And in theory, you could just give up one first
and not two, so that fixes the guard
spot and the cap sheet in the same phone call.
It also positions the Toronto Raptors for more moves,
as they have more flexibility
to fortify that frontcourt position
or make any ancillary moves for this Raptor squad.
Given the latest rumors,
there is one direction I want to keep an eye on out there in New
Orleans.
The Pelicans are 0-4 to start off the season,
and this week, it feels like their whole roster
is on the table.
We can start with Herb Jones.
One report says New Orleans is open to moving him
and wants close to two first-round picks.
Mark Stein has said the opposite
and said the Pelicans haven't even shown a willingness to
trade him. And as cool as Herb Jones' defense would be on the Raptors,
he just continues to
be tossed out in trade rumors over the past three seasons
and the Pelicans maintain a ludicrous
asking price for him. So I'm writing him off
the table right now. But it's not just Herb,
the same reporter said many around
the NBA believe the Pelicans and Dejounte Murray
would like to work together to find the guard a better situation.
Then there's also Jordan Poole,
who's on that roster and told the Pelicans he'd look for
opportunities elsewhere. He's averaging six points a game this season,
and last night against Denver,
he played in just seven minutes.
He makes $34 million, so Toronto would have to send out about
$33 million just to take him on.
And of course, an expiring deal would look good on the Toronto
Raptors books. It could open up things
for RJ Barrett out there in the future.
But in a season where we're trying to contend,
Trading a guy like Emmanuel quickly
for a dude that can't even get off the bench
in the New Orleans Pelican system isn't that appetizing.
Before I tell you the guy on New Orleans I certainly would call about,
we are oh so close,
less than 90 subscribers away from the huge milestone of 45,000.
So if you made it this far in the video
and you're enjoying all the Daily Toronto Raptors coverage,
make sure you guys hit that subscribe button.
But the one Pelican player I certainly would call about is Yves Missi.
He's a guy that was talked about a ton
from the Toronto Raptors over the course of the
summer, and opening night against Indiana,
he had 13 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
He did hurt his left knee in the next game,
and it's a bone bruise so he'll be out for
now, but the Warriors have reportedly asked on him too,
and the Pelicans have turned down
offers on him before.
So he's not a player that would be free,
but he's young, he's cheap, and he's a real big man
that blocks shots. And he's exactly what's missing,
especially if the Raptors find a way to get off
of Jakob Poeltl. And he's super cheap.
He makes $3.5 million a season with a team option for next year.
But even though he's cheap, the Raptors
are still hard-capped at the first apron,
so they would have to send out some salary in order to bring him in.
Unless they make that deal with Memphis.
And if they can, then they have a lot more wiggle room in terms
of just bringing in players and sending out draft picks.
So let's put the asking prices side by side.
The one that makes the most sense is the cheapest is Ty Jerome.
Assuming Memphis doesn't inflate his price like crazy
because of his hot start to the
season, you can get him on a much more reasonable ask than what Dallas
is going to do for Kyrie
Irving, you can get off of that Poeltl contract, and you can also
Position yourselves for more moves
and more flexibility to re-sign RJ Barrett in the future.
Now, giving up a first round pick in a deal
that is centered around a guy that's probably going to
cool off in the coming weeks might feel like a risk.
But even before this season, I've looked
at Ty Jerome as one of the more underrated players in the NBA.
I was shocked that Cleveland let him
walk to bring in Lonzo Ball, but nonetheless,
he's still a very steady, solid guard, whether
he's starting or coming off the bench.
And he will certainly help this team's shooting.
The Raptors don't need him to score 45 every night,
we have Scottie Barnes, we have RJ Barrett,
we have Kawhi Leonard, when he's healthy,
he doesn't need to be the superstar on this team,
but if he can come in and space the floor,
he's a target that I'd seriously look at if I'm the
Raptors. So Shams just came out and priced Kyrie Irving,
and in my opinion, that's much too rich
for this Raptors team.
If I'm going after a guard, I'm seriously targeting Ty Jerome,
but let me know what you guys think in the comment section down below.
Comment K if you're more interested in Kyrie Irving.
Type J if you're more interested in Ty Jerome.
