2026 Week 10 preview: Westlake hosts Cedar Ridge

Week 10 of the high school football season has arrived. District championships are getting close to being decided, and that could be the case tonight at Westlake. Fox 7 sports anchor Cliff Thornton has a preview. Just two weeks left in the high school football regular season, and as usual, Westlake is in a great position to take home another district title. But this time, tonight's unfamiliar opponent is their biggest remaining hurdle We're used to seeing Westlake duking it out with rival Lake Travis for a district title year after year, but with the Cavaliers already with two losses in district play, including to Westlake last week, the Shaps find themselves in a district showdown with new district opponent and undefeated Cedar Ridge. After what's been a difficult decade so far, the Raiders have come out of nowhere this season, off to an... 8-0 start, including their own win over Lake Travis. Westlake's the team that's used to these big matchups, but a big challenge for the Chaps tonight is gearing back up for a game that likely decides the district champ a week after the always emotional game with rival Lake Travis. We've done a great job of that so far. I mean, we just kind of got over it, celebrate Friday night, Saturday, and then show up Monday morning ready to work, ready to win a district championship and get that gold ball. We're blessed to be in this big game, and that's obviously... Big tip of the cap to our boys and the season they've had so far. And, you know, we're getting better every single week. These guys aren't wishing away the work. They're showing up every week with the opportunity, knowing that we have to be better. Opportunity, obviously, to be atop of this district. And it's a goal we set out for to kind of as we started with this football team back in January. In addition to Westlake Cedar Ridge, another big game in District 25-6A. Round Rock hosting Lake Travis. Dragons still a shot at sharing the district title. First-year program Legacy Ranch up in Liberty Hill. All but playoff bound in year one. Huge test for the Wranglers against San Antonio Alamo Heights. Last season was the first time this decade the Shaps have not won a district title. Of course, two years in between district titles might as well be 20 by Westlake standards. District titles unfamiliar to Cedar Ridge. Raiders last won one in 2017.
