Enter This Home That Has a Surprising Atrium at Its Center

Global Architecture

The Vertex House was set on an irregular-shaped lot. Architects at PXP Design Workshop found the three longest sides of the lot and created rectangular volumes along each - creating an atrium at its center.

The atrium blurs the delineation of indoors and outdoors, allowing plants and even a tree to grow within. Architect and co-founder of PXP Design Workshop Spencer Sy was also inspired by the Bahay na Bato with a stone as materiality for the first floor and lighter materials used for the second floor.

A dance studio was also incorporated in the second floor. Architect and co-founder of PXP Design Workshop Patrick Espiritu was able to give the client a full mirror wall for the dance workshop but also gave them an option to roll the mirror in to be able to admire the view.

PXP's project architect Louis Montecillo mentioned the importance of communication in the design and build phase of this project. As unconventional materials were used, they needed to provide detailed and clear instructions to the builder to create this home.
