And today I'm working on the echo scarf pattern using
this sparkly sequin yarn from Timu.
If you love the look of it, I'll have a link
in the description so you can check it out
for yourself.
This pattern will also include instructions.
For a longer scarf, but because I only have about 300 yards
of this yarn, I'm going to make this one a little bit shorter.
I've never worked with this yarn before,
but I'm loving the different size and color of sequins,
so I'll share my final thoughts at the end of the video
on if I liked working with the yarn, so stay tuned for that.
I'll be using a 3.5 USE crochet hook for this version.
The great thing about this pattern is that it's super flexible.
It uses multiples of 19 plus 5,
so you can easily adjust the size and use any weight
of yarn that you like.
So use the link in the description to get the pattern,
and let's get started.
Okay, so as I mentioned before, we can create whatever
size scarf we want by doing multiples of 19 plus 5.
So for this scarf, we are going to chain 290.
So it's a lot of chains. I recommend getting stitch markers involved.
You can place them just about, you know, every 20, 50 stitches.
Just so that way, if you lose your place,
it's not too hard to find it again.
But I will give you a little hint on how you can kind
of fudge the first row to make it work.
But go ahead and chain your 19 plus 5
and we'll come back for round, sorry, row 1.
Okay here I am at the last few chains.
You'll see the longer version on the website
so if you want to make this even longer go check that out.
But let's go ahead and start with row one instructions.
So to begin row one, we're gonna turn
and we're gonna do a DC fan in the sixth chain
from the hook.
So to do a DC fan, we are gonna double crochet
once into the stitch.
So pull through the first two, pull through the second two.
Then we're gonna do another double crochet
in the same stitch.
So yarn over, pull up a loop.
Yarn over, pull through the first two.
Yarn over, pull through the second two. Then we're going to chain one.
And then we're going to do another double crochet
in that same stitch. So yarn over,
pull up that loop, yarn over, pull through the first two,
yarn over, pull through the second
two, and then one more double crochet in that stitch.
So the DC fan is going to be
two double crochets, chain one,
and then two double crochets all in the same stitch.
That is going to be the repeat.
We are going to do that.
We're gonna skip the next four chains.
So we're going to look at our chains,
we're going to see that that big hole is where our last chain was,
and then we're going to count 1, 2, 3, and 4,
and then we're going to work into that next chain.
Go ahead and work into the back loop,
because we're going to be working into the other side of the chain
to create a mirrored effect,
which is why we are calling it the echo scarf.
So you'll see that they connect in between these spaces.
So we're going to be just doing a DC fan, so two double crochets,
chain one, and then two more double crochets in that same stitch,
and then we're going to skip another four chains,
so we're going to keep doing that all the way across.
And then at the end of the row I'll talk
a little bit about if you might have missed a chain
or two and how to hide that without having
to undo all of your hard work. So go ahead and
finish working across your chains
and then we'll come back at the end of the row.
Okay, we're getting near the end of our first row
and my tip on if you've maybe gained a chain
or lost a chain if you're a little off in your count at the beginning,
don't worry, this is very easy to fix by just skipping one
or adding one when you're skipping those four chains.
So you can do it near the end once you figure out how much you're off
if it's a couple stitches.
Add an extra stitch in between some fours or take one off.
You don't have to do it all in one of those skips just to even it out,
but you shouldn't be too far off
because it is just a multiple of four of those chains.
So here we are at the very last stitch.
So what we are going to do for that one
is we're skipping the next two chains.
And then we are going to double crochet
in the very last chain that we come to.
So that is slightly different from the rest
of it where we're skipping four,
we're only skipping two in that last chain.
So to begin row two, we are going to chain three,
which is going to count as a double crochet.
And then this one is really simple.
We are going to do a DC fan in every DC fan of the row below.
So we're going to do it right
Around the chain one space of the row below,
so we're going to do two double crochets.
Then we are going to chain one, and then we're going
to do two more double crochets right into that fan.
So super simple row two, nice mindless crocheting where you're
just going to do a DC fan in each of the DC fans across.
So work on that. We'll come back at the end of this row.
Just to show you what that last stitch looks like,
and spoiler alert, it's just going to
be a double crochet.
Okay, here we are at the end of row two.
I am finishing up my last DC fan,
and we are just going to do, right from there, one single
double crochet into that turning chain from row one.
So, once...
Double crochet, and then we will move on to row three,
which is going to be different,
but here is a look at rows one and two completed,
and let's get going on row three.
Okay, to begin row three, we are going to do a chain one
and we're going to single crochet in that same stitch.
Then we are going to chain one,
which is going to be the beginning of our pattern. And we're going
to single crochet in that chain one space from our DC fan below.
Next, we're going to chain one again
and we're going to skip stitches until we get to the middle of where
our DC fans connect and we're going to do kind of a mini one.
We're going to do a double crochet into that space.
Then we are going to chain one.
And then we're going to do another double crochet into that space,
so a little v-stitch if you will.
So that will be the repeat for the row.
It'll be a chain one, a single crochet into that
dc fan, a chain one, and then the dc mini fan in between those.
So again chain one, look for
the chain one space in your dc fan and do a single crochet,
then we're gonna chain one again,
And then we're going to do a double crochet,
chain one, and double crochet,
In between our two DC fans of the row below,
so still a fairly easy row where you don't have
to spend too much time knowing where to look,
but this is going to kind of square off our row,
it's not going to look as fan or ripply on the edge.
So we'll complete this row, and we'll come back,
and we'll revisit a familiar stitch with a DC fan,
but we're going to offset it just slightly.
So go ahead and finish this row,
and we'll come back and meet for row four.
Okay, here we are near the last...
fan where we are going to do our single crochet.
Then we are going to chain one and single crochet
into that turning chain to finish off row three.
Now we are moving on to row four, and it's going
to seem very familiar. I love the look of these sequins.
They're very pretty and shiny. But for
row four, we're going to revisit those DC fans,
but we're going to offset them. So we're going
We're gonna chain three to begin.
And then we're going to do kind of a half fan.
We're going to double crochet two times in that same stitch.
And then an easy way to find where we are going to be placing
our DC fans that we're going to be working across.
Let me move this out of the way real quick
so it's a little easier to work.
So we'll do this last double crochet.
Then we are going to look for that mini fan
that we created on the last row.
So in between those two DC fans, we're going to find that big V
and we're going to work into that chain one.
So we're going to do our DC fan right between
those two double crochets of the row below.
So, two double crochets into it,
chain one and then two more into it and then we're gonna continue that
across so we're gonna skip all
the stitches until we get to that next mini dc fan or
v stitch and continue doing those dc fans
so this is still fairly easy you
just have to look for the correct stitch
to work into but we're going to continue dc
DCing fans across and then we'll meet up at the end of the row
so you can see how we're working
into that last stitch.
Okay here I am at the end
of row four finishing up my DC fan.
between my last two double
or double crochet chain one double crochet then we're gonna skip
all the way to the very last stitch
and we're gonna do half of a dc fan we're gonna do three
double crochets in that last stitch
so not quite a dc fan because there's no chain ones
but we're just mirroring what we did at the beginning of the row
so that finishes off
Row four and we can move on to row five, which is going
to be super simple because we're just going to copy row four.
So we're going to chain three,
do two double crochets in that first stitch like we did on row four.
And then we're going to continue doing the DC fans across.
And this is going to be like rows one
and two where we're doing it inside.
the last dc fan of the row below
so we're gonna go once i get a little bit more slack
What?
and do that dc fan right in that chain one space and continue
that all the way across so two double crochets chain one
and then two more double crochets
Skip all of our stitches and head back into the next
DC fan. So continue that across.
It'll be nice and easy for you. You should
be used to these now and then we'll come back at the end of
the row to just make sure you understand. We're
going to do the same thing we did
on row four to finish it off.
Okay, here we are on our last DC fan, and then we just have
our last stitch of the row, which is going to be the same as row four,
which is three double crochets in that very last stitch, or
To be more accurate the top of our turning chain
of the row below we have one more row to go for
this side of the scarf which is going to be very similar
but just slightly offset of row three. So
to begin row six our final row we are going to start with a chain one
and then we're going to
We're gonna single crochet in that very first stitch.
Then we're going to chain one,
and now we're going to do that double crochet, chain one,
double crochet, but we're going to move it to between
the first three double crochets and the DC fan of the row below.
Then we're going to go ahead and look at our DC fan that's coming up.
We're going to chain one
and we're going to single crochet into the center of that.
So it's the same as row three.
It's just we offset it because we offset our DC fans.
So we're going to chain one, work that DC,
chain one DC in between the DC fans.
Then we're going to chain one
and single crochet in the middle of the DC fan.
So just like we did row three.
Just slightly offset, so we'll continue that across,
and then we'll be finishing off row 6.
Okay, here we are getting towards the end of row 6,
where we are just doing the last DC, chain 1 DC,
right between our last DC fan and those 3 double crochets.
We'll finish it off with a chain 1
and a single crochet in our turning chain of row 4.
Let me get in there.
And then we are going to fasten off
because the rest of the scarf is going to be worked
and this sequin is going to give me troubles.
I'm probably going to have to cut that thing off to be
able to get a long enough tail for weaving in.
So there we go, got it through. So we're gonna
fasten that off with a long enough tail
to weave in and then we're gonna move on
to the other side of the scarf.
So I call this the echo scarf because we're going to
echo what we just did for rows one through six
on the opposite side of our turning chain. So
let's flip this guy over
and we'll start working on row six after I get some slack out.
Okay, so let's flip this over and go back to the other end
because of course we work left or right to left. Yeah.
So we're heading over to our beginning chain and we're going
to start right in that corner that we have our original tail located.
So we're going to begin putting a slip knot on our hook
and we're going to slip stitch
into that space right at the very beginning to join our yarn.
So find that very first chain
and just slip stitch right into it.
Then we're going to start with chain three. So this will
count as a double crochet and this should be fairly easy.
We're going to dc fan in the chain
Big old hole that was made from our first one,
we're going to work right into that.
So you can work all the way around the entire thing,
or you can work into the front loop only,
because technically we worked into the back loop on the first row.
But we're going to just do those DC fans across
into each of those big spaces that we have.
from our original dc fans on our chain
so we're skipping four chains again and just working that
dc fan into that stitch across
so keep on going we'll just come together at the end of the row
to make sure we know what to do on that last stitch
okay here we are at the last dc fan of row one
Which is worked into row one of the other ones,
so this is technically row seven, but you can
either call it row one or row seven,
but do your DC fan in that last DC fan and then you'll have
just one stitch left, which is going to be a mirror
of what we did at the beginning, which is
one double crochet in the third chain
from where we did that original turning chain.
So that is what it's looking like.
We're echoing round one. So again, for round...
Yeah, round one. So now round eight is a mirror of round two.
So we're going to chain three and
then start doing those DC fans in the DC fan of the row below,
just like row one and row two. So
super simple. Watch some TV, work on that row.
We'll come back at the end just to go over row
three and the end of this row, of course,
or I keep calling them row three. So row
Uh, nine, technically, so keep on going.
Okay, we're nearing the end of row eight, I just did my last DC fan.
Now I am going to do a double crochet in that very last stitch,
if I can get through it.
Let me start over here.
So, one double crochet.
In the very last stitch, and we're ready for row nine,
which is going to be a copy of row three.
Okay, so row nine, we're going to flip our scarf as usual,
and this is going to be a mirror of row
three. So we're going to chain one
and single crochet into that first stitch. We're going to
chain one, single crochet in the middle of our DC fan.
Chain one and then do our DC, chain one, DC in between our fans.
Nice and simple. You know the drill.
Continue this on all the way to the end of the row and we'll just kind
of go over, you know, the last three rows after that again.
Okay, here we are at the end of row 9 with our double crochet,
chain 1, double crochet,
and then a chain 1 and a single crochet in that last DC fan,
one more chain 1, and then
a single crochet in that very last stitch.
Now row 10 and 11, it's going to be the same as row 4 and row 5,
so we are going to skip
Skip through.
Both rows will work just a little bit
of this beginning one to remind you.
We're going to chain 3,
then we're going to double crochet 2 more times in that same stitch.
Then we're going to do our DC fan in the middle of our double crochet,
chain 1, double crochet of the row below.
And we're going to continue that across,
ending with 3 double crochets in our very last stitch.
Then we are going to copy that again for row 11,
getting lost on all of our rows, which
will be a mirror of row 5,
so we want to again do three double crochets at the beginning
of the row, we'll DC fan in each of our DC fans
of the row below, and then end with a
A three double crochets in the very last stitch.
So we'll skip coming back at the end of this row
and we are going to skip all of row 11
and just come back for the beginning
of row 12 where that will be our very last row.
So just continue that on and then we will meet up
at the beginning end-ish.
Okay,
here I am at the end of row 11.
I'm going to go over a couple things as we finish these stitches off.
This can really be customized, so you don't have to stop at row 6.
Now that you know the pattern, you can keep on going.
You'll just do those same stitches in rows of 3.
So you can make this wider.
Or you can make it skinnier.
You can do just three rows on each side, whatever you like.
So this can definitely be moved and changed around.
Also, for row 12 and row 6, you could leave that off.
If you like the fan edge of the scarf,
as you can see the difference between the two,
there's not a huge difference,
but you can leave off row 6 and 12 if you like the fan edge better.
But we are on row 12, and that's going to be a mirror of row 6,
so we're going to go ahead and do that chain 1,
and then we're going to single crochet into that first stitch.
And chain one and then do that double crochet,
chain one, double crochet, and then we'll chain one
and single crochet into the DC fan just like we did for row six.
So we will just finish off this row and move on to showing off
the scarf because it is very pretty with all of the sequin yarn.
So just continue on across.
And we will meet up to look at the scarf
and I will let you know my thoughts on this yarn at the end.
So here's the finished scarf
and like I said I wanted to talk a bit about the yarn I used.
It was fairly easy to work with but you do have
to take the sequins into consideration.
I actually had to cut some of them off to even the ends
because I couldn't sew
through the yarn with them attached.
It also unraveled pretty easily except
at the beginning chain where those sequins made
it a little tricky, but I love how many sequins are on it.
If you're looking to make a standout piece,
this yarn definitely delivers, and I love
the mix of colors and different sequin sizes in it.
It's really, really pretty.
I was worried the sequins might be uncomfortable
when wearing the scarf, but they're actually not
scratchy at all, so that was a very pleasant surprise.
Overall, I would use this yarn again
if I had a specific project in mind that called
for this kind of sparkle, but I hope you enjoyed
Enjoyed the pattern, and I am Deja with Knit and Crochet Ever After,
and thanks for watching!
