A helicopter with the EU Peacekeeping Force crashed
on Thursday in northern Bosnia,
killing four Italian personnel
and injuring 11 other people, the force said.
The CH-47 Chinook crashed during routine training,
according to the statement,
which added that the injured were in stable condition
and receiving medical treatment.
The Italian Defense Ministry said the victims were two soldiers
and two Red Cross volunteers.
An investigation is underway into what caused the crash,
which caused no damage to civilian
infrastructure, property or vehicles, and no injuries to civilians.
U4 has had a mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2004,
when it took over from a NATO
peacekeeping force that had been present since
the country's 1992-1995 war.
It has around 1,000 to 1,500 personnel there tasked
with maintaining peace in the Balkan
country.
