Why did they give me safety eyes for a cat bed?
Okay, I have a question right off the bat. This
is supposed to be a crochet cat bed kit,
but this package is so small it's giving more of a mouse
house. Um, I just feel suspiciously tiny.
So if you're new here, I've been ordering
these Temu crochet kits to see if they're actually legit
or if they're a scam.
Because the listings sometimes look too perfect
and then sometimes the photos are just kind of off,
I also purposely pick projects I wouldn't normally design myself.
Just so I can go into this as kind of like
a newbie for something and give an honest
review on how the pattern
is when I haven't made anything like it before.
I already reviewed one kit before
and I'll link to that if you want to see whether I
actually got what I ordered on that one or not, so no spoilers.
And now I'm kind of tempted to start trying
the listings that look obviously like AI photos,
so if you want me to test those next, let me know in the comments.
Also, side note, I've been...
been looking for knit kits too but I haven't found any yet
so it's all just crochet so far.
Let me know if you found any.
Link them for me and I'll check those out. But let's open this up
and see what we actually got.
But first be sure to hit that like, subscribe, and notification bell
so that you never miss out on reviews and patterns
and all the other stuff I have on the channel.
Let's go check the kit out.
So according to the listing this is supposed to be a DIY crochet cat
The cat bed kit, I actually like
the stitch pattern they showed in the photos and it looks
really chunky and cozy, which feels perfect for a cat bed.
It's supposed to come with everything you need,
yarn, hooks, tools, the whole kit, so
you shouldn't have to buy anything extra.
But after receiving this, I noticed something suspicious.
They never listed the finished size anywhere,
no measurements at all, and the photos make
it look huge.
One picture of it next to a bed and it looks massive.
So I'm just trying to figure out how something
that big fits into something this small.
Either it's very aggressively vacuum packed
or the cat is not going to get a very big bed.
So let's see what's actually inside.
Okay, it was vacuum sealed and I cut a little bit
when I was cutting it open
so the seal's already broken and it's starting to expand.
So...
So...
It might be enough yarn.
Let's check out the yarn and see if we think it'll actually make this.
Okay, first I was like, they didn't even send
the crochet hooks, but then I saw them
tucked in. So the yarn itself of course has no label.
It feels like a soft acrylic
and it looks like probably a DK weight,
which unless that stitch pattern is very
dense. I don't know how this is going to stand up
on its own the way the picture shows. So there's
six balls of this. No clue on the yardage.
I'm just, I'm not even gonna wind it to find out. I'm
just going straight off the pattern to see
is what they gave me enough to make what they show
and does it turn out the way that it's supposed to.
So with the yarn they also sent tools. They
They sent safety eyes.
Why did they send safety eyes?
Quite a few. Okay. Let me open this up and see what's in here.
So they sent two crochet hooks, a 5mm and a 2.5,
very similar to like a Clover, a more
rubberized kind of handle,
so they should be comfortable to work with hopefully.
Sometimes the cheaper hooks have weird things that catch,
so we'll see how these work, but
I'm always using what's in the kit,
so that way you know if you buy it and you don't have
these, you are set to go
and you're not going to be frustrated the whole time.
So with the hooks,
I also got a yarn needle or two it's like a metal
and a plastic which is cool because like
I like metal better but maybe one of if you have
a preference now you have both choices plus a
little carrying case so that's cool you can put
other yarn needles that you collect along the way
inside. We got five locking stitch markers,
eight plastic like amigurumi safety eyes.
Maybe these are just special extras?
I don't remember seeing eyes anywhere on the cat bed,
so unless these are used to hold things together, I don't know.
And then finally, some bendable wire.
So that might be what gives it the ability to stand up.
Because this yarn I don't think is going to do it by itself.
So now I'm very intrigued.
Safety eyes and wire, what are we doing?
And then lastly, this is covering up some QR codes
which I'm guessing are to a video.
But there's like a whole little booklet.
on the pattern so that will be interesting
and looking through this pattern booklet this is
actually more of a instructional how
to make stitches so it's more of
How do you do a single crochet? How do you do a slip stitch?
So this is not the actual pattern of
the cat bed, so I'm guessing we have to go
to the QR code that is provided to either download or
watch a video or both. So I'll let you know what's on the QR code,
but let's get started. Okay, so
I did not show you any progress videos of me making the cat bed
and there was a very specific
reason why I gave up.
This is as big
as it's going to get
so this would fit a hamster
comfortably or a premature kitten
but this is not going to fit any size cat that I know of.
So I was gonna attempt to make the whole thing,
but the pattern fell apart in this area. It became
incomprehensible, didn't make sense, so poorly written.
However, if you'll notice as well, the
stitches are basic single crochet.
If you've done any crochet,
you know that that's not single crochet.
I don't even know what stitch that is.
I wanted to know what stitch that was. I wanted to learn it
because it looked like a really cool stitch.
You know what stitch it is? It's AI stitch,
that's what it is. It's not a real stitch.
If it is a stitch, let me know which one it is
because I want to learn it.
So I had immediately known that this wasn't going to work out when
the pattern told me to use a nine millimeter hook,
which that did not come with.
And two strands of the yarn.
So I am thinking that they swiped someone's pattern, which the
entire thing is single crochet,
and then they just substituted yarn and they have no idea what they're
doing, and they gave me worsted lightweight yarn,
probably DK, and small hook. Like the
hook was the right size for doubling this up to make it tight-ish,
still floppy, but
Doubling up with a 9mm,
I'm guessing that would have been a bulky or maybe even a super bulky.
That would have given me way bigger size
and I was actually tempted to get some of my yarn and
try to make it, but the pattern is so poorly written.
If they took the pattern from someone,
unfortunately that person did not write it well either
and I couldn't figure it out.
It had really strange descriptions
that I had never heard of and it was just
Too frustrating to finish.
I probably could have winged it and done something but I
didn't want to waste my time anymore.
It seriously was such a letdown. I was hoping to have a really
cool cat bed and I have a really floppy ugly bowl.
So thankfully I found out Temu has some
decent return policies that certain sellers may give you credit
on part of your purchase if you
Don't want to return the entire thing.
They'll just give you a credit of what you paid. So I'm
keeping the yarn. I got a little credit back.
I'm going to use this yarn for something else,
so you'll see it in a future pattern.
So be sure to hit the like and subscribe notification bell.
But on the scammometer, this is a 5 out of 5.
I did get yarn though. I got some yarn, but
that's about it. The crochet hook was good too though.
That was a good comfortable crochet hook.
But other than that, highly do not recommend.
Anyone else has found a cat bed on Temu that
I could make? Let me know in the comments.
Let me know where. Send me a link. I have a com-
a comment. I have a contact me link in the description.
You can shoot me the link
directly and I'll get it and I'll try that one.
But this one was a bust so
Don't buy it. I have many more kits coming up
so be sure to stick around if you want to see if
they were a scam or if they actually turned out well.
But I'm Deja with Knit and Crochet Ever After
and thank you for watching.
