Hey all, thanks for joining me again.
So if you've been watching the channel lately,
you've been seeing I've been testing out a
bunch of Timu crochet kits.
You've already seen the kinda good,
the questionable, and the what is happening here.
And while I've been in that rabbit hole,
I realized Temu is not the only place cranking
these things out.
Did you know Amazon has a ton of crochet kits too?
I thought I would try one out to see if we're getting legit items
or scammed with promises
that don't quite deliver.
And as I was scrolling, this one immediately jumped out,
not just because it's cute and
and functional, but because it had
The infamous DIY handbook.
If you've watched my other kit reviews you already know that this
little booklet has made multiple appearances
and we'll be making more in future videos.
And let's just say the Temu crochet kits have
not exactly been winners. So the big question for
today is are we getting the same questionable kit situation
from Amazon especially when the pricing
Basically on par with the Temu ones? Or is this actually an upgrade?
And I will say, I didn't pick this one only
for the drama. Possible drama.
It is such a cute idea and kit.
It's a coaster kit where the coasters kind of bunch up
and sit inside a little amigurumi
vase so they look like tiny plants in a pot.
So let's open up the bag and see how the yarn and stuff looks.
But before we jump in, don't forget to hit the like,
subscribe, and notification bell
because there are a lot more kit reviews coming
as well as more free patterns and tutorials
So you don't want to miss those.
Now back to the kit.
Okay, so here is the kit.
It's not vacuum-packed like some
of the Temu ones that we've gotten recently.
Very loud bag, though, so I'll take it out outside of it.
But if you notice, the DIY handcrafts, same.
Same logo so let's see what we get inside.
Okay so we got the booklet for the actual coasters
and let's see it actually has the pattern on it.
There's a QR code for beginner tutorial videos. So
one thing it does have the DIY booklet but it's way bigger.
I'm covering QR codes just because you
Somebody made this stuff and I don't want to give it away for free,
even if it is a scam sometimes.
But this booklet, it looks to be the same,
however it's a little bit larger, so it's easier to see.
And some of the things that I've noticed from the Temu kits
when I get this booklet is a lot of times
the pattern is very small as well, like it's almost been...
Taken and then recopied, but not in a great way.
So I'm wondering if like this kit
is maybe like the original of this brand and
we're actually gonna get what we're supposed
to get rather than a knockoff.
But let's check out the yarn because that's usually the dead giveaway.
Okay, I'm trying to grab all the yarn at once.
Bad idea. Okay, so I've got
Quite a few greens, I picked the green kit,
they have other colors but I live in the desert
now so I wanted kind of greens and browns.
The yarn itself, it does still look like my Temu yarn basically,
it looks like a light
worsted DK weight.
It does not feel like cotton which is unfortunate,
it feels like acrylic, so that may not.
Kind of sop up condensation. We'll have to see.
I might have to put some cold drinks on these once I finish them
and see how they actually work out. This is
Pretty much on all of the Temu kits that I've gotten
that have that DIY is wound so tightly,
like it almost could maybe be a worsted,
but then it's wound so tight it looks almost like a
lightweight. So I've always said I'm only going
to use what comes in the kits to test out that
if you don't have these things, you can still make it. So
I don't want to rewind.
I could do like balls and sit there and rewind balls,
but I don't want to do that.
So I'm not going to use my yarn winder
to rewind these to kill some of this tension.
I'm just going to use it as is because
that's what I would expect everyone to do.
But I'm hoping, like looking at this,
like if you look at this strand here and then this
This strand here, they don't.
Totally look the same. I feel like this one looks a little thicker
and that's one of the problems
I had with at least one of my other kits
that the yarn had different thicknesses
when it shouldn't have like maybe it for a reason it might
be like this but the other yarns were
Not working well together as an amigurumi
because I had a really lightweight and then like a DK weight
and the two things were supposed to be sewn together
and they don't fit together correctly. So we'll see how this goes
when I start working these coasters and stuff. We shall see.
So with the yarn, you also get a handy dandy carrying case.
Very nice little brown felt and then all of our goodies.
And I'm happy to report I only have two safety eyes in this kit.
If you've seen my other videos,
I get safety eyes in like every kit for no reason, so that's
promising.
I do have a glue stick though,
I can see already, maybe two glue sticks.
I still don't know what the glue sticks are for.
Let me open this up and see what else we have in here.
Okay, so we have two glue sticks,
which I have no idea what those are for.
Or I...
Hopefully the pattern tells me because I'm very interested
when I get glue sticks in a kit what I'm supposed to do with them.
I've got two yarn needles, both plastic. Other issues I've
been having with kits is that they give me giant plastic.
Or just giant yarn needles that have
a really difficult time fitting through the super-tight
stitches because they give me such small crochet hooks to crochet with.
So sometimes I really struggle weaving in ends,
so we'll see how these go.
And I think I just solved my own question about the glue sticks,
because the eyes on
On here, I have stitch markers, but the eye,
I won't drop it because I'll lose it forever.
It's not a safety eye, it's just a flat back,
so I guess I'm supposed to use two glue sticks
worth to stick this to my pot.
I might... no, I said I'm gonna use it.
My question is, is if you have to glue
these on and you don't have a hot glue gun, what
do you do?
Do you get out a lighter and melt it
and use it like one of those old-timey...
Stamps, you know, that you'd seal letters with in medieval times,
like, I would prefer actual safety eyes.
And I was about to say I'm gonna use some,
but I said no, I'm using everything in the kit.
I have a glue gun. I don't know if it'll fit
those glue sticks. If it doesn't,
I'm gonna get out a lighter and try to do this medieval style,
because I said I'm not using anything outside of the kit.
But that may be the one exception.
so i don't burn myself or my house down. and then lastly we have
our hooks. so these are wood they're very light
very interesting like bamboo. they are marked
kind of have that burnt smell you know from them being marked.
so i have a four millimeter
And a 2.5 millimeter. The bane of my existence.
Probably for the amigurumi portion. They love
using 2.5 and it kills me. They're so small.
I'm guessing probably the 4 for the coaster.
But at least I don't have to do the whole project with a 2.5
because I was going to say
these coasters are going to be tiny if I only get a 2.5.
So I'm excited to get started. I
think this is going to be a really cute project.
The pattern looks legit so I'm hoping these will
turn out how they should with the materials
and hooks that they've given me because that's one
of the major problems is sometimes everything is really small
because they're not using
the proper materials that they should be for the project.
So I'm going to go start crocheting
and we'll see how these look at the end.
All right let's take a look at how this one turned out.
So this is the finished coaster set
and I'll say right off the bat this
actually made exactly what was pictured.
Which if you've been here for some
of my other kit reviews you know that is not always the case,
especially when there is that infamous DIY book involved.
So that part is genuinely a nice
surprise. The coasters themselves are really cute.
I love the little leaf detail. It gives them like
an extra something so they're not just plain circles.
The pattern overall was pretty easy to
I don't need to follow.
But I will say the included video tutorial helped a lot,
especially on the leaves.
There was a little bit of spots where,
in the written instructions, I was like,
what am I supposed to be doing here?
And the video quickly cleared that up.
Also, the no-post eyes.
I get it now.
At first, I was like, these are just flat backs.
This is annoying.
But if they were regular safety eyes,
then I think the coasters would get stuck.
Or catch, you know, as you're pulling them in and out,
so that actually makes sense.
And they were easy to attach.
I used my little handy-dandy glue gun.
It wasn't too bad.
That being said, I am a little curious how long they'll last,
because hot glue has a
bit of a lifespan.
I don't know if I've ever had anything
that doesn't eventually fall, so I guess time will
tell.
But now the holder.
It's cute, but it's small.
Like, I understand that, like,
it's probably like that so that the leaves, you know, don't,
like, if it was really tall,
the leaves just get buried in there, but I feel like it's,
I don't know, it's, functionally,
I do think it would be better if it were just a little
bit wider and a little bit taller,
because when you actually, like, put all the coasters
in, they kind of just pop out,
so you have to adjust them a bit to get everything to
sit just right, which, you know, if you're going to be using it.
For real. That's gonna be kind of a pain.
And the holder itself also doesn't sit perfectly
flat either. You kind of have to like finagle it into place.
And then that's the same with the coasters.
Like they're not super straight right off the hook.
And that usually means the pattern isn't quite written
in a way that actually lays flat.
You could probably block them to improve that, but as
written they do not sit flat.
And then there's the actual use as a coaster.
The condensation just kind of sits on top which makes me
you know think this is acrylic yarn
so it's not really absorbing anything it's more just like
holding the water there which is fine
if you're using them more decoratively but if you're looking
for something super functional these are not ideal
on the plus side there was a ton of yarn
left over like enough that i could probably make
at least a couple more coasters without
needing anything extra
so overall i'm really happy that i got what was advertised
I'm surprised.
But as a functional coaster set, it leaves a little bit to be desired.
It's one of those projects where I feel like
with just a couple small tweaks,
slightly adjusting the sizing, refining the pattern,
so everything sits a little flatter, it could be really good.
But I'm curious what you think.
Am I being a little too critical of the pattern
because I know how I could fix it?
Or would you be totally happy with it as is?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
