So to make the Lapis Caplet,
you are going to need DK weight yarn and about 475 yards.
I am going to try out this Timu yarn that I got,
and I'll link to the video of the unboxing
of this.
I got quite a bit of it, and this is plenty,
this is overkill, but I am interested to see
Let's see how this supposedly hand-dyed yarn is going to work up
and if the pattern looks
Looks good.
But you can substitute with any DK weight that you have on hand.
Just match gauge so that you get the correct size.
Then, with that, I'm actually going to use
these stitch markers on the cast-on,
and I'll explain when we do that what this is for, but I love these.
I will link these in the description,
and you'll see how handy they can be.
Then, for the needles, you are going to need some 5mm,
and we're going to use a 20-inch circular through.
out so this is going to work for the entire pattern
so you don't have to switch out needles.
I love this interchangeable set from Lantern Moon. It has swivels
which is great to keep things untangled
and they're just really nice to use. So again,
I'll link to these as well.
Then you're going to need a needle and some scissors
but go ahead and get the free pattern in the description
and we will get started.
But first, if you like free patterns,
free tutorials, and all that good stuff,
be sure to hit the like, subscribe,
and notification bell so you never miss out
when they are released. Let's go make our caplet.
Okay, so to begin our caplet, we are going to cast
on. And we need to do a lot of cast-ons
because we are going to start from the bottom and work
our way up. The bottom is going to be worked
in rows until we get to the portion where it
This is where it starts to join
and then we're going to work it in the rounds.
The circulars. But we need to cast on 220 stitches.
Now that is where this guy comes in.
I got this on one of my Etsy hauls, which I'll link
to so you can see that if you want to see more in detail.
But this stitch marker set, it is marked at every 20th stitch.
So what I'm going to do is as I make 20 stitches,
I'm going to put this on there.
That way if I lose count, I don't have to start over from one.
I can just count from the last stitch marker.
So you'll see as I add these how that goes.
But I'm going to go ahead
and cast on 220 stitches with a long tail cast on.
And you'll see it happen real fast right now.
Okay, I am done with my 220 and I got little...
Maracas here, so you can see those come in super handy because I can
just count from where I left off if I have to stop or if I lose place.
But I don't really have to worry about if this is straight
or not because I'm working flat, remember, so we just have to turn
and begin working. First I'm going to cut my tail so it's not so long,
but we'll start row one.
For row one and the next 19 rows after that, we are just going to knit.
So super simple. You don't
have to keep track of your stitches
so you can take out your stitch markers
but you're just going to go ahead
and knit all of these stitches back and forth for 20 rows so
can't get much easier than that so i'll come back
at the end of row 20 and then we will
start the next instruction okay here i am on the last stitch of row 20
so i've got kind of my
Hem completed, and I'm liking the yarn.
I'm liking the colors, how they're turning out, so
I'm pleasantly surprised.
If you saw my Temu video, you would know I was kind of worried about
how this was going to look, but I'm liking how it's looking so far.
So let's start another kind
I'm going to kind of repeat, so for row 21
Remember this is our right side row, right side row.
We are going to do a little setup row to get
stitch markers in place
so that we don't have to pay attention for the next quite a few rows.
So to begin row 21, we're going to knit 10.
This is going to be our edging. Okay,
I got 10 knit. Now I'm going to place a stitch marker.
The gal that makes the
Number stitch markers the number stitch markers that I use she
also with both orders that I did with her she sent
Little free stitch markers of owls,
so I'm gonna use these because I need two stitch markers
So these are super cute, so I'm gonna use these guys,
and they're pretty lightweight because they're wood
It's a very lightweight wood, and I like lightweight stitch markers,
so I'm gonna place my first stitch marker
And that's going to mark the end of my edging.
So even though I'm actually just going to keep knitting across
I want that set up for my next row.
So now I'm going to knit all the way
across to 10 stitches before the end. So just
keep knitting and then when you get to 10 stitches
and I can actually place my stitch marker now because it's
a locking one so I can actually count that back to
4, 6, 8, 10.
That way I don't have to keep counting when I get close.
But we're actually going to knit,
place that stitch marker 10 stitches before, and then
10 more knits for the other edging.
So just keep on knitting around.
We'll come back to do the next round.
I'll come near the end here, and then we'll come back
and show you the next round, and
then we'll keep going.
Okay, here I am one stitch before my stitch marker.
If you don't have locking stitch markers,
this is where you're going to...
Place your stitch marker, so 10 stitches before the end.
I'm just going to double check, make sure I counted right.
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, perfect.
So this is row 21,
and then you're also going to do this on every odd row, all the way up
to row 51, and this creates that little splice on the caplet.
And then if you have seen the picture,
you know that the main body is going to be simple
stockinette.
So for row 22 and all of your even rows through 52,
you're going to knit your first 10 stitches
so that we have a garter edge so it doesn't curl.
Then once you come to your slip marker,
stitch marker, you're going to slip your marker and
then you're going to do purling until you get
to your other stitch marker.
So you're going to...
Have a stockinette body by doing that knit it and purling.
So knit the odd
So you're going to keep doing that all the way to row 52
and then row 53 we're going to start a little bit of shaping
and doing some decreasing.
So go and knit and purl for a bit
and we'll come back at row 53.
Okay here I am. I finished all 52 rows
and now I'm ready for a little bit of shaping. So this
next row is going to do kind of a lot of shaping actually.
We're going to do a lot of decreasing on
this row. So for row 53 we're going to knit
to our marker just like normal. That never changes.
We're going to slip that marker.
So now we're going to do a repeat to start
the decreasing for this row and it's going
to be just as simple.
It's going to be a knit two and then we're going to knit two together.
So we're going to take one and two,
come from the left side, enter in as if to knit, yarn
over and knit both off.
And that's all we're going to do for the whole
row until we get to the marker.
We're going to knit two,
grab two, and knit two together.
Knit two together.
Knit two together.
I think you get the picture so once you get to the end to the marker
you're gonna slip your marker and knit as usual
and then we'll come back for some more instructions
so keep on going and I'll see you at the end of this row.
Okay here's the end of row 53.
Now, we're going to go back to what we
were doing for a little bit more.
So rows 54 through 74, all of those even rows,
we're going to be doing the purling again.
And then rows 55 through 75, we'll be doing the knitting.
So just knit and purl back and forth all the way through row 75.
And then we're going to come back to start working in the round five
Finally. So keep on going through row 75,
and then we'll meet up to join.
So I'll see you in Movie Magic. One second.
Okay, I just finished row 75.
Now what we're going to do with the right side facing out
is we're going to join in the round.
We're going to start working to work in the round.
Join to work in the round.
I'm a little sick, my brain's not working quite right.
So I'm taking this stitch marker out,
we don't need these stitch markers anymore, but I do
want it to mark the beginning of my round,
though I can see it because of our garter
stitches.
I'm still going to mark it just to make it easy
so I can keep track of the rounds.
I'm going to go ahead and take this one off too.
Okay, so we're going to join it by putting
our last stitch, our yarn, over here to our
End stitch on the other side,
and then we are just going to knit for round 76.
So I'm going to bring my ends close together,
and then I'm going to insert in, knit, and
then bring my ends close together again,
and that'll give you a nice tight join.
Then we're going to go ahead and just knit all the way around.
So this is very easy knitting.
Lots and lots of knitting.
So after this round we're going to do some more shaping. So go ahead
and get to the end of round 76 and we'll come back for round 77.
Okay here I am at the end of round 76.
There's a little bit of a gap, don't worry that'll close up as you go.
So for round 77, we're doing a lot of shaping again,
so we're going to knit 1, this is going
to be our repeat, knit 2 together,
I knew I'd cut something,
and then knit 2 together
again.
So again, knit 1, 2 together,
knit 2 together, so you're going
to continue that stitch repeat
All the way around.
Then after that it is smooth sailing, just a knit two,
so continue this and then we'll come back
for the final instructions for the capelet where you just get
to sit back and knit. So I'll see you
at the end of this round.
Now I'm ready for the rest of the project which is all knit, so super
Super duper easy.
to do we're going to go round 79 through 116 of just knitting
so just keep track of your rounds
use your stitch marker and mark mark each round
as you finish and then after 116 we'll come back
and look at the finished capelet okay here i am at the
end of round 116 so this is the very last round
And then we are going to bind off after this.
We're just going to bind off and knit. I don't
really need this anymore.
We're going to bind off loosely because this is going to roll down,
so we don't want it to be really tight around our neck.
So when you are binding off, just make sure
that you're doing it as loose as possible.
So give yourself lots of extra little slack when you're
doing each stitch. So when I do that,
I like to kind of pull up on each one and give it some
I'm going to add some extra slack before I go into the next one.
And that'll give you a nice loose-like edge.
So go ahead and do that whole round,
and then we're going to come back because this is not
done yet.
We still need to block this.
Okay, we are all done with the actual project,
but we're not totally done.
So you can see the edges curl after binding off on the neck portion.
Now this doesn't look that great because this is a natural fiber,
so it's not fully
Realized yet, because we still need to block it.
So blocking is going to help the yarn bloom
It's gonna make our stitches look better
Everything will get better once this is blocked
So I'm wet blocking this on my mannequin.
So I just wetted it down and then
Natural gravity is pulling the stitches well.
You can also do the same with a hanger with a towel wrapped around it
to help with the gravity to pull your stitches even.
But I love the way that this yarn turned out.
The colors aren't coming quite through
in the video, but the pictures you'll see.
I hope you enjoyed making this.
I'd love to see what yours looks like.
But I am Deja with Knit
and crochet ever after and thank you for watching.
