The covers of these Temu knit and crochet books were so obviously AI-generated that I had to buy them and find out whether the actual books contained real patterns—or if this was just more AI slop.

Okay, so, I was not planning to film this video,
but then I saw something that completely
stopped me in my tracks.
So I was scrolling Teemo, looking
for some more questionable crochet kits, you know,
for science, and I came across what looked like
a totally normal listing for crochet
for beginners.
Didn't think too much of it, kept scrolling,
but then my brain caught up to what I just
read.
Crochet for Beginners.
Crochet.
I'm sorry, what is crochet?
Is that a new craft? Did I miss something?
Is this just a typo?
Or is this the start of something cursed?
So obviously I had to click it,
and that's when things got weirder.
There was basically no real description,
just the same image
repeated over and over,
and the cover, it's like
super AI, like not even
subtly, it's just straight up
uncanny, slightly off, something's not right
here AI.
So I clicked into more listings of books,
and they just kept getting weirder. Different titles,
different books,
but all with these super suspicious AI-looking covers. And again,
the same image posted multiple times.
Like, they didn't even try. And here's the thing,
they were not cheap.
These were like $20 each.
So I'm sitting there thinking, okay, what's actually going on here?
Am I about to get completely scammed?
Or are they taking real books and slapping weird AI covers on
them and reselling them?
Because when I started googling the titles and the author's names,
The books existed on other websites,
were about the same price, and were identical.
So now, I'm even more confused.
Is this just a widespread thing,
or is everyone unknowingly buying these?
At this point, there was only one logical thing to do.
I bought them!
I ordered five of these books.
Ones that very obviously had AI-looking covers, and were just off.
I got two knit.
Two crochet and of course one groshe
because we have to know what groshe is.
So today we're gonna take a quick look at each one
and what stood out to me from the listings
and then we're gonna open them up
and see what I actually got. Okay so there was the
groshe for beginners
which has kind of like a little nana sitting there crocheting but
if you look closer like there's a big ripple kind
of blanket looking in the front of it.
And then it looks like she's crocheting kind
of a really small piece of it.
And then all the different pictures were all the same.
And of course the biggest thing was
it says, GROCHET.
So that one had to be on the list because it's like, is this what...
I gotta know what's in this book. So we're gonna save that one for last
to see if there's some kind of new craft that we've never heard of
or just a really bad typo.
The knit and crochet books all kind of have like this
similar AI cover vibe that's totally different from the
crochet, but I tried to pick ones that were like
so obviously not what it's saying that they were
comical. So here is Knitting Unleashed and
Every single one of these has just the cover photo and then
maybe a second shot of the cover photo. The exact same thing.
But this one, it's actually not available anymore. Now they have a
new, I think it was like...
Extreme knitting unleashed, so I'm thinking they changed
the cover slightly because maybe somebody reported it because
who knows what it what we're getting looking at the cover you can see
that the knitting needles are not the way knitting needles should go.
There's fabric that obviously looks like it's had work like
weird warping knitting like it's doesn't even look like
a knit fabric kind of very strange socks that are just
Comically large. It's so bad.
So I had to get that to see what that was gonna be on it says
Unlocking the secrets of stitches scarves
and socks for every skill level. So that will be
One of the first ones we check out for real
and then the other knit book is just called knitting
Don't know what kind because all of these pictures don't really show
The show.
Actual knit let's scroll down a little so we have kind of this
Yarn thing with like a weird creepy hand.
I think the hands like going like this and like with a thumb hole
But the fingers are kind of shaped really creepily
and then the lady kind of it looks like she's pulling on her sweater
But actually it looks like a fluff ball because the sweaters not really
moving and there's not really any kind of knit texture to the sweater
Then we have like more like just yarn
Just laying there in weird situations and then it gets even weirder.
These are my favorite
at the bottom.
We've got like a six fingered hand pulling on a like it looks like
Knit that's been through the ringer like it's just tore up
and then the other hand
That also looks like it has six fingers
and it's like cutting through yarn
But it looks like it's cutting through some of the fingers as well
So this one I'm super super excited about
because who knows what's gonna be in there
So I can't wait to open that one up.
Okay, and then we have the crochet books. So
The first one it's called Crochet Book.
Stylish summer tanks with flattering shapes and fits.
And while some of it does look like crochet,
when you start looking closer
you can see that it's just kind of off. Like there's
Like it looks like they took maybe some pictures of things
and then turned it kind of AI,
got those AI background apps that you can get these days.
Thank
So nothing super overtly horrible, it's just kind of...
Off.
So I wanted to get one that kind of looked almost legit
to see what was going to be there,
you know?
Then, kind of in the vein of the knitting book
that shows nothing knit on the cover,
you.
I got this one, Modern Mosaic Crochet.
Amazing mosaic crochet patterns.
Nothing inherently weird about
that except for the picture on the cover.
The main thing in that picture is crochet, especially the mosaic.
Table runner? I don't know what that is. But it's pretty!
I think it's a very pretty whatever it is.
It's just definitely not crochet.
And then if we kind of look a little closer
at the stuff on the sides,
it's kind of funny because like look at the scissors. Those are
Weird scissors.
So there's like, you can tell it's AI
because of the weirdness and some of the things.
But especially because there's nothing crochet about that mosaic thing.
So you can see that we can get totally scammed
on these or it could be a miracle.
I for one cannot wait to open these up and see what we got.
Okay, all five books did show up,
so that part was not a scam, but what's in the books?
That's the part that I'm curious about.
So I'm going to start with the book
that is no longer on sale on Temu, and that's that
Knitting Unleashed.
So, to my surprise,
the book actually came with the picture that was on the listing.
That I definitely did not expect.
I'm not sure what I was expecting,
but I wasn't expecting to get the actual picture.
On the website. So as we know,
there's some very AI looking things going on on this.
So that makes me even more curious for what's inside.
And it's a really thick book. So let's just check it out.
It does have an ISBN, which is interesting.
That's the when you publish a book.
It gets assigned or you have to kind of buy one for your book.
So at the end I'll check these ISBN numbers if there's
others and see if it matches for this book or if it's like,
I don't know, I just don't trust it. Like how can you
sell something that looks so fake?
Well let's check the inside and see how that
looks. Okay so it looks like we kind of
get some basics for knitting, some basic stitch patterns in the
So it does, even though it's really poorly photographed,
it does look like we have some
instructions and stitch patterns.
We go into some stranded, which the pictures are not,
they're getting worse.
And then we kind of go back to yarn. Oh, this is a socks.
So it almost looks like they pieced-mealed,
that's a nice foot, they piece-mealed the
book together like it it's starting over in chapters for the socks
and then it looks
like we have more knitting tutorials again with pictures
and then we go into
scarves where it looks like it changes again.
Again, so...
On this one, while it does have knitting things in it,
it doesn't look like it's a cohesive book.
It looks like either maybe they took three other books
and threw it together in this one.
Whether it's their own work or not is questionable,
but so far not impressed.
Thank
It's a knitting book, but not one of the better ones I've seen,
and especially for how much these
cost. This one's a definite pass for me, but it's not a total scam.
you
We still have four more though,
very
so let's check the next one.
All right, I'm gonna hop over to one of the crochet ones now. This one
is the Stylish Subber Tanks with Flattering Shapes and Fits.
much.
So this one was kind of like the most
Legit looking like it looked like kind of crochet
but with like some extra lot of flowers.
But it is the picture again.
So we're two for two on actually getting something
that is what is pictured in the listing.
The outside could be totally different from the inside.
So same thing just plain back cover with an ISBN.
So I've got to check that one out too.
Much thinner.
So let's see how this one looks.
Interesting because this was a different seller. The crochet
books came from a different seller from the knitting books but it
It has the same kind of beginning as the knit book,
like as if they were from the same kind
of person, same copyright date, same paragraphs,
which I feel like if I google reverse image
search this, I'm wondering if these are actually someone else's work,
you know what I mean?
But there are tank tops in here,
and they are pretty cute, they only show the back of
of them which is interesting like
Can I see what the front looks like?
And it doesn't look like we have pictures for every single one of them.
But cute stuff!
Like, there are some really cute ones.
So I don't know if this is their work like when you
when you google this you get the same thing
popping up over and over
but you don't see any kind of like deep dives like descriptions
other pictures like it's very suspect to me.
I'm torn like I just I don't understand like it
doesn't seem totally legit you know what I mean
but I did get some tank tops. Let's check the
The next one.
All right, we're going back to knitting.
Because this one was the one that just had,
like, every picture was AI on the cover, and
our books have shrunk, but the pictures are still there.
So we did get the picture again, very thin book,
so let's find out what knitting is gonna
show me.
So the, uh, title on this one's much longer.
Mastering Knitting Essential Techniques, Patterns,
and Tips for Beginners and Experts to Create
Stunning Handmade Garments, Accessories,
and Home Decor with Precision and Creativity.
Mouthful.
Okay, so we have knitting, beginning, developing knitting skills,
examining patterns, more complex knitting techniques,
personalization and style, creating your own.
Success. Is there 50 pages? Yes, there are 50 pages.
This is just pretty much a short paragraph
for each item that they talk about.
Literally just a short paragraph. Pattern of a dishcloth.
It talks about some patterns, but it doesn't really give a pattern.
It's just paragraphs.
Like, it looks someone ChatGPT'd,
give me quick paragraphs on knitting, and they slapped
it in this book.
There's an ISBN, so we'll check that.
You could get this in any other knitting book.
And for the prices that they're charging for some of these,
totally not worth it.
This one is a total pass for me as well.
The only one that I've liked so far is the tank tops,
but again, I'm not sure if that's
their design.
It throws me off.
I'm not sure about that one.
Okay, that leads me back to my last crochet,
because we have crochet to look at still.
This is the Modern Mosaic Crochet.
So this is Amazing Mosaic Crochet Patterns, and we got the picture!
So it did!
Like the others, show up with what was pictured.
I love how the name is just like very...
I thought like in the picture it was bad to read.
It's still really bad to read.
It's small and off to the side.
We actually have kind of like a...
We have the ISBN, but we have an actual thing that says
Amazing Mosaic Crochet Patterns
Designed to be a Guide to Modern Mosaic Crochet
Patterns and Techniques
The Book Takes You Through the World of Modern Mosaic
Let's see what kind of world it's taking me through
when we actually look inside.
All right, so here we go with our big font paragraphs.
Get started with simple patterns,
yet that pattern is nothing but simple, so that's fun.
We have some patterns in here.
All of a sudden we have a coaster. That's kind of interesting.
And then also we go
into the most complicated looking pillow I've ever seen, and it's so
hard to tell if that is actually crochet.
And then we have a beginner blanket,
which is kind of cool looking.
Like I can see the crochet in that one. Zigzag scarf that looks
really cool, but also fake at the same time. Like I don't...
Oh, so this thing was a blanket.
The thing on the front page was a throw blanket.
So this is giving somebody, ChatGBT,
give me mosaic crochet patterns and what the picture
would look like, and they threw it into this book.
If I actually try to make one of these,
I highly doubt it's going to look like the picture.
There's no charts anywhere. Like,
Like these are so complicated looking and
These instructions are so short, like if you were to make this
Blanket and you have four pages of giant font instructions.
I don't think it's gonna work.
This one is probably the biggest scam so far,
I think, because it's not gonna give me what's
pictured. I can pretty much guarantee that,
especially when it doesn't even look like crochet.
Okay, that leads me to Groche. What is Groche for beginners?
All right, I've got my Groche book and
It does say, Grosche, and it says,
quick and easy way to master spectac, I think the rest
of the word went behind granny, Grosche,
three days, grandmother spiral diary, can't wait
for this one, plane, plane back, no ice beam,
Grosche, I don't even think, like the picture,
like it doesn't even have a hook on the end of it,
it's like a pointy needle, but it does
look like a chevron crochet blanket,
oh this is gonna be fun, let's see.
Okay so we got all of a sudden this turned
into the ultimate granny square source book.
50 mix and match designs. Interesting. Oh wow.
Does this actually have that? It looks like
this turned into granny square central.
Interesting. We actually have instructions
and then we have actual patterns.
And this doesn't look like any granny square book that I have.
But I have a feeling they took this and,
because the font is so small and hard to read,
That they took someone else's pattern book
and went and put it with a crochet label
and this is what we get.
So it's not crochet for beginners because there's not really
many tutorials in here for crocheting
because it is just crochet but there are
a ton of granny squares that I highly doubt
were made by whoever made this book.
So, I'm guessing these get pulled
because somebody recognizes somebody's patterns and
lets them know, and then they, you know, report them.
If anything looked familiar and you know who made that pattern,
because I don't think...
If you're making a granny square book
and that's your patterns, you're not putting
Grochet for Beginners on the cover.
You know what I mean?
So, any internet sleuths want to figure out who these belong to?
And then let that person know to report it, that would be good.
This one may only be on Temu
but these other ones are all over the internet.
Like I pulled up the ISBNs for these and they match what I got.
So those covers match that ISBN and they are sold on multiple websites.
Do I think any of these are legitimately written
by the name that's on the book?
I highly doubt it.
I don't really think so.
I think it's a total crapshoot if you buy any of these what you are
going to wind up with because there are no descriptions anywhere,
there are no pictures of
the insides, and I think that's probably for that reason.
They don't want people to see
To see who they're taking from.
So, I hope this is a warning
for anybody considering purchasing these types of books.
You may get kind of what's on the outside,
like the tank top book, but most likely you're
going to get scammed.
So these, I'm going like 5 out of 5 on a scam meter.
Like they just, you do get a book, you do get,
it's based off of knitting or crochet,
But you just...
Don't know even if the instructions are going to make what it said
so have any of you
bought any of these books.
Like I don't think that I need to buy more to investigate this.
I think it's a pretty clear across the board.
It's AI pictures, probably someone else's work,
and then slapped together and sold.
I say I would not support these.
I say avoid them if you can.
Have you seen any other scams like this that you want me to try out?
Drop that in the comments as well and I'll go check those out.
But, I am Deja with Knit and Crochet Ever After,
and thank you for watching.
