Final debate held for N.S. Liberal Party leadership
Oct 29, 2026
The fact that Becky Druin has a seat
in the Nova Scotia legislature and Amanda Mamberkett
does not has been an issue in the background throughout
this campaign. Wednesday evening
each candidate touched on it directly making the case
that their respective situation is a benefit.
Druin served in Premier Tim Houston's cabinet until leaving
the PC party last year due to what
she called a difference in principles with leadership.
She says her track record as a
cabinet minister and knowledge of the premier are both assets.
I know Tim Houston's government from
the inside. I know how to challenge him
and I've shown that I'm willing to stand up to him,
stand up for what's right, even when it comes at a personal cost.
Mamberkett says her ability to
meet the demands of her job as a municipal councillor
in Richmond County while campaigning
for the leadership shows she can take on a challenge.
She noted that New Brunswick Premier
Susan Holt became leader of the Liberals
in that province before she had a seat in the legislature
or the party was in power. I'm not ashamed to say
that I don't have experience in the Houston
in cabinet. No election has ever been won in the legislature.
It happens on the ground.
Nova Scotia Liberals will elect their next leader November 21st.
