Palestinian citizens of Israel expressed optimism
on Wednesday following the strong
showing of Arab parties in the elections.
Vote counting indicated no clear winner,
leading to potential week of negotiations
to form coalition for majority of seats in parliament.
The Arab-led parties could play a crucial role in coalition building.
the way the preliminary results turned out they
are excellent results for the Arab community
we had hoped to get 15 we got more than
that and god willing we will have something for us in the
government something that will bring us something more
from our rights we have lost a lot of rights
we also have crime that is widespread among us they need
to work on this issue and put an end to
it. Palestinians
who remain within Israel after the 1948 war surrounding its creation
and the descendants today make up about 20% of the population
Crime was a central issue
that drew Palestinian citizens of Israel to the polls
In my opinion, the election
results reflect people's attitude,
their desires to change, and we hope that this change
will be for the better.
And we expect the people who were elected to take responsibility
and work on the issues that matter to our community,
especially violence, crime, education and job opportunities.
Polls indicate Netanyahu's Likud party has lost seats
but remains the largest.
There is the potential of another election if no government is formed.
