Africa's largest outbreak
of Ebola has now passed over 10,000 confirmed cases,
the vast majority of them in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Since it first emerged half a century ago,
Ebola has killed more than 15,000 people across Africa.
Today it's an outbreak in three regions.
We didn't see that since we started
to have experience of Ebola outbreaks.
We were not thinking that Nigeria could be at risk country.
Today, Nigeria is affected.
In DRC, the contact tracing is still a challenge.
Second, we can say that preparedness is still
a challenge in a number of countries.
And third one, we can say cross-border activities
were not at the level we were expecting.
According to the DR Congo's figures, 10,060 people have been infected
and 4,887 have died since the virus was first detected in May in the
vast central African country's deadliest outbreak in its history.
Cases have likewise been detected in Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda, with
the World Health Organization warning that Africa faces a complex task.
