Expect traffic, water impacts as Bearspaw feeder main reaches critical phase
Oct 29, 2026
The city says repairs
on the Bearspaw South feeder main are nearly finished,
but Calgarians can't put the infamous water main out
of their minds just yet.
If we can accomplish this in 11 months instead of years,
think about what else Calgary and Calgarians can achieve.
This is Calgary's man on the moon moment
and we're asking every Calgarian to help us stick the landing.
The city says about 95% of the new feeder main is now installed.
Now it needs to be connected with the existing water system.
City officials say that tie-in construction
will take place through November and December
at these three locations in the northwest.
The city says to expect significant traffic impacts.
That includes intersection and lane closures,
detours and sidewalk and bike lane closures.
The city says proactive repairs will also begin on Thursday
on another section of pipe along Parkdale Boulevard.
Calgarians should prepare for traffic delays there as well.
City officials say work should be completed
on that section in early December.
And Calgarians will need to start conserving water once again.
The city says starting November 4th,
Calgary will see Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions.
Once those lift, the pipe will need to be flushed
and sanitized and the water quality will be tested.
We anticipate this will take two to three weeks.
So if all goes according to plan,
the new pipe will be operational before the end of the year.
