AI GeneratedAn HISD school recently faced a critical infrastructure failure involving a water line break that left students without running water or air conditioning. Despite district claims that portable facilities and water were provided, parents reported a lack of resources, leading to unsanitary conditions and student distress. The water has since been restored, and the school expects normal operations to resume.
Let's jump into some of our top stories here today.
Les Dallas Ford sitting down with us.
Okay, no running water, no air conditioning at an HISD school.
Obviously, folks, that's a problem.
It's a problem.
It's a problem that we've talked about here on Fox 26 before,
and I've covered this story
endless times.
You know, we're talking about it in the newsroom
probably within the last hour about, again,
I can't believe this is happening.
But in this case, again, there's water issues.
So this mom got a message, you know,
that the school sent to parents about a water line
water line break, excuse me, at the school.
Now, the school says that the district was, well,
the school was open and the district says they were trying
to fix some of those issues while the kids were in school.
But here's what we know about it.
So, according to a message sent to families this morning,
there was a water line break at the school
that could have possibly affected the AC.
Now, the school told parents that they were going to bring portable
restrooms, hand washing stations, meals, drinking water, etc.
But one mother says that her kids' experience today was still bad.
she said that her kids told her that they had
no working bathrooms they did not see any portable
restrooms or those hand washing stations and she
also mentioned that her daughter got sick at school
and her daughter used the restroom on herself
and she had to go and pick her up there's no drinking
water and there is no water for toilets
or washing your hands i don't see any porta potties as well
they're still not here um because i think you
were saying in an email that they said they were
gonna put like yeah they said yeah they they
haven't put anything out there i don't see
anything out there should be no reason
that children should be in school and these kind
of predicaments when you can't even live
in your own home in these kind of predicaments it makes
me feel scared that what i might just have to use a bathroom
and i'm gonna have to hold it
it makes me feel mad because all the teachers
are just mad it's just not fun to be in a school
I mean, if there's no water in this building,
then there's no porta potty.
Y'all not seeing me here at five and six, I'm telling you that now.
I don't know what we do.
You know what I'm saying?
So at the end of the day, you have a kid like that going to school,
that's a difficult situation.
You understand the parents' concerns.
So what is HISD saying about this?
So again, as I mentioned, we've talked about this time and time again.
And so we did reach out to HISD and we asked them,
or we wanted to get some specifics rather
right about what's the cause of this?
What happened?
When were things gonna be fixed, etc.
So they sent us a message that the principal sent
to parents about the resolution here.
So we have some of that up for you.
It's going to be on your screen here.
So it reads, in part, throughout the situation, our top priority remain
the safety, well-being, and continued learning of our students.
We remain committed to ensuring that every honeybee receive
the high-quality instruction they deserve
while our team work to address the issue.
And so I will tell you, we did get that update really within
the last hour or so about the water being back on.
So we are happy that the water is back on.
We just hate to see this issue again.
Now, I do want to clarify, when we've done
these stories, we've talked about no AC.
This is the first time I've done a story, again, that I've done
a couple times with HIC, where no water has been the issue as well.
So we're going to try to stay on top of it and see
and make sure hopefully this doesn't happen again.
Poor kids.
I know, but the water is back on now.
Water's back on.
Everything's back up and running.
They also said to pick up, dismiss all that was normal today.
Everything will be normal tomorrow as well at the school.
So back to normal for now, but we'll stay
on top of it to make sure it doesn't happen.
All right, Leslie, thank you so much. Much appreciated.
