Okay, a youth softball game in Sugar Land took a violent turn,
especially if you've seen this video,
you know how horrible it turned out. One man remains in the hospital,
another man is injured, and two parents are facing criminal charges.
Sacra Gray joins us live in Sugar Land
to break down what exactly happened. Hey, Sacra.
Yeah, I'm live here from Imperial Park and on Saturday,
this was supposed to be a day
of softball fun.
There were 12 and under girls softball games
taking place out here during the evening.
But things quickly took a dark turn,
a violent altercation broke out amongst spectators.
And now one man is suffering from a traumatic brain injury,
another man is in recovery,
and two parents are facing assault charges.
Let's take a
look at the
video of the
incident.
Following the incident, Kyarius Hall and his wife,
Jasmine Hall, shown in the video in
pink shirts, were arrested and booked into the Fort Bend County Jail.
Kyarius Hall is charged with two counts
of assault causing bodily injury, while Jasmine
Hall faces one count.
We spoke to the attorney of the man who was struck by that bottle.
He says he's expecting the Fort Bend County
DA to upgrade those charges.
When you strike someone with an object
that is capable of causing serious bodily injury
or death, whether it's a stick, a gun, a knife,
or a metal cup, that is an aggravated assault,
which is a felony, and it's on video.
As far as the updates we have today,
he says his client has suffered a skull fracture,
a fractured cheekbone, three brain bleeds,
and a blood clot, and remains in the hospital.
Meanwhile, for Jasmine Hall, at the time of her arrest,
she was actually the assistant
principal of Lamar Junior High School.
The school district says she reported the incident
and has since then resigned effective
on Monday.
Back to you.
Well, Sacra, do we know what exactly led up to this violence,
why it got so heated?
Yeah, keep in mind,
this is a 12 and under girls softball game, but things quickly
took a turn. If you take a look
at the charging documents here, the defendant,
Kyarius Hall, told officers that he
was out here cheering for his daughter.
He says a man confronted him,
saying he couldn't cheer right before the opposing pitcher releases
the ball. Hall claims that he kept on cheering,
and that's when that second man got involved.
He said then things turned physical.
He says the second man elbowed and poked him in the chest
prior to the escalation.
But meanwhile, the attorney we spoke to denies those allegations
and says his client did not lay his hands on Hall.
Zachary Gray, Fox 26, sending it back to you.
