AI GeneratedDarian discusses the Heisman campaigns for himself and teammate Malley, emphasizing Malley's selflessness. He details his mental process for handling defensive pressure, the importance of offensive reliability, and the upcoming challenges against UNC's physical defense. He also highlights the high football IQ of his star receiver and the strong support from the university.
The athletic department started the Heisman campaign for you and Malley.
I won't be so silly as to ask you why you should win,
so I'll ask you why should Malley win.
I think, you know, the biggest thing
that sets him apart from everybody else
is his, you know, eagerness to go out and block for his teammates.
I think if you turn on the tape, he does it at such a high level
that it's just different.
And, you know, I think that he's obviously a great person,
but he wants to see his teammates win,
and I think he's just a selfless person,
so I think that's why he should win.
And one quick follow-up.
Can you just sort of give us a sense?
A lot of you guys talked about even knowing after Saturday there
were things to clean up.
Just how has that process gone in your estimation this week?
Thank you.
I think it's gone great.
Just like every week, there's stuff that we kind of tune into
and focus on when we try to get better,
and obviously the penalties and the pre-snap penalties
He's something that we're focused on this week,
and I think we've done a good job of putting that up.
All right, next we'll go to Adam.
Hey, Darian.
Thanks for taking the time today.
Shannon Dawson said Monday, I asked him about, you know,
your ability to be accurate under pressure,
and he called it your superpower.
Can you just kind of talk about, like, what you're thinking
when an opponent's blitzing, there's guys in your face,
guys at your feet, just what's going through your mind
trying to find, you know, the right read to make,
the right pass to make, or the right decision in general?
um well i think i have a pretty good pre-snap process
and i you know a pretty good idea of
what the defense is going
to do pre-snap obviously they can shift post-snap but um you know just
focusing on my keys focusing on you know where
your eyes need to be on every every single play
can help uh and kind of eliminating you know
your the the then want to you know wander your eyes at
certain stuff when the defense is trying to show different blitzes
but um i'd say that and i just
have a lot of trust in my guys up front to protect me
and my guys to get open as well all right next
we'll go to Jordan yeah hey Darian uh first off uh thoughts
on UNC's defense and the pressures
and the challenges that they could bring
this weekend yeah really good defense um i think they
do a lot of good stuff on that side
of the ball uh physical uh physical group that flies around
um and they got some good players in the back end as well
so um yeah we'll have to be ready and then
wanted to ask you about uh Dre Jacobs
and Samorian Wingo seemed like they got a lot more involved in
the offense against Pittsburgh just how much what have you seen
from them in practice and
that allowed them to be able to get more playing time
and just the importance of
getting more weapons involved in the game
and how much that can help the offense when you have
so many different options to work
with on any given play yeah i think it's important because
it uh it keeps the defense honest you know they can't just focus
in on uh a few players or you
know what you're doing they've got to guard
the entire field um but i think that what they've
shown in practice is just reliability like they've
been much more reliable as the season's gone on
and that's definitely needed all right matt you'll
go next all right great um hey Darian uh so you
know Bill Belichick sort of this defensive guru type guy
and he's no doubt going to try and figure
out a way to slow down Malachi he already
was saying they're planning that uh i was curious
can you talk a little bit about how much other
teams have already tried unsuccessfully to slow
him down and what makes him
so uncomfortable I think his football IQ is what makes him so
uncomfortable he understands what you know defenses
are trying to do to him and he understands
how to hurt defenses and so when you have
a receiver like that has almost like a quarterback
mindset um and him and i are always on the same page it
um it's hard for defenses to stop uh we
have our last two we'll go to anthony
and then sarah you'll wrap us up hey darian got a couple
for you first kind of jumping on adam's question
on the pressure your numbers under pressure pretty
much suggest you just you're just as efficient even
with a clean pocket just if you could point
to one thing that stands out about your preparation
when you practice under pressure what would that
be i guess i'd have to point at my O-line you know i think they
do a great job of picking up
blitzes um and you know i'm in there in the protection meetings
and um so i can understand
you know why we're um protecting things the way
that we do um and so i think you know my
offensive unit uh up front does a great job
at preparing for you know what defenses
uh are trying to do to us week in and week out
and last year you had the experience of
going to chapel hill going facing UNC just what
do you remember from that matchup that
you think can still be brought up again
in this one yeah it was pretty electric it was a night
game um they had the place rocking
um and i'm sure it will again you know i think that us coming in
there uh will bring the crowd out
and you know i'm excited for that matchup all right Terry you'll
wrap this up hi darian um just going back
for a second to that dual Heisman campaign what is it
like to have this dual campaign
and the support by the school alongside your star wide receiver
who you said you have a very close connection
with like how has that been between the two of you
Yeah, it's a dream and a blessing to have the support of,
you know, this university and, you know, my teammates as well.
But like I said, kind of before I all focus on going 1-0 this week,
we've got a big time matchup coming up.
And so I haven't really tuned in to that too much.
