Justin Scott on Miami's Growth and UNC Offense
1 Video View·Oct 28, 2026
Hey, Justin, thanks for taking the time today.
Just first of all, you know, you guys have been really,
really good at stopping the run all season.
Just I guess, what would you attribute that to?
I mean, what's made you guys so good at stopping the run so far?
I feel like as a defense,
that's one of our main keys is to stop the run.
We know that making teams one dimensional is kind of the big goal.
And that's kind of how you win games at the end of the day.
So getting teams back in uncomfortable situations,
third and long, making them only pass the ball.
That's kind of the ways that we find to dominate teams.
And then a second question for me.
Obviously, you guys go up against
the offensive line every day in practice.
You know, obviously, the line's been a bit of a work in progress.
Guys have gotten banged up.
Guys have moved around and stuff like that.
How have you seen the O-line kind of progress just over
the course of the last, you know, month or two?
I think that's one of the most resilient
position groups that we have on our team.
You know, we've been going against battling injuries all year long.
and different guys having to come up, play guard, play tackle,
throw in the different spots, different positions.
And most of those guys being young guys, too,
who don't have that much experience.
So I think it just shows how resilient
that they are in the O-line room.
All right, next up we'll go to Matt.
Hey, Justin.
I wanted to ask you, Coach Cristobal said that this past game
was your best game of the year.
Is there something that held you back previously
or is it just all clicking for you?
What are you doing better that made him sort of say that, do you think?
I think I'm just going back to the basics, just not thinking too much.
I feel like that's a big thing that's kind of gotten in my way,
is kind of the argument thought.
Thinking too much and just not playing the game.
So kind of just thinking that it's football at the end of the day.
It's go and beat the man in front of you.
So just simplifying the game.
Great.
And I also want to ask you about the North Carolina offense.
You know, they've got some pretty good playmakers.
What have you seen from them on film?
You know, that's definitely a real good offense,
one of the top offenses in the country,
especially up front.
They got about SEC-type size up front,
and especially with the veteran quarterback that
they have back there.
So I think they definitely got playmakers,
and they definitely have a lot of talent.
So it's going to be another test.
Just we got to come up with our details and just focus on us.
Thanks.
All right, Jordan.
Yeah, hey, Justin.
I kind of want to build off of Matt's first question.
From when you got here a little over two years ago to now,
just how have you seen your
yourself evolve as a player
and what has that that maturation process been like for you um i think
it's just been kind of just learning the game
that's kind of been a big thing for me is just
learning the game you know
when i came in here i was fresh to football um so just learning uh
sternum cuff striking getting vertical playing violent um and just uh
also i say just becoming
a leader also um those guys came and been leaving last year
and blay and all those all those vets
And then me kind of being a vet now,
kind of having to step up and take these young guys under my wing.
So I think it's definitely showed me a lot.
What's the biggest thing you learned from Bain Mesidor, Blay
that you have been able to apply this year?
Get off the ball.
Get off the ball.
You can solve all your problems with your get off.
All right, we'll go back to Adam.
Yeah, just something else I thought of.
Obviously, you know, I'm sure you grew up watching, you know,
the NFL, watching Bill Belichick win a half dozen Super Bowls.
I know it's not, I'm sure it's not the main focus of anything.
But is it kind of cool, like, hey,
I'm going to play against Bill Belichick?
Honestly, I haven't even really thought about it like that.
When you put it into perspective like that, it is a cool opportunity.
But I feel like at the end of the day, it's always a player's game.
Coaches can't really – coaches at the
end of the day, they just call plays.
Players are the ones that got to go out there and win the game.
That makes total sense.
Thank you.
Appreciate you.
All right, Justin, that's all we got for you.
Appreciate you taking the time.
Appreciate it.
